Tracy and Adam form an icky alliance

"Peter De Vilbis"
Original airdate: 11/30/1983

Episode summary: Fallon is charmed by Peter De Vilbis, a handsome stranger she meets at a horse track in Los Angeles. Alexis continues to be wooed by Dex. Jeff learns that Kirby was raped by Adam, and that the psycho is her baby daddy.
Recap: Jeff ambles into the kitchen late at night and finds Fallon there, about to fix herself a snack. He flirtily tells her he'd like a sandwich too...and she suddenly decides she's not hungry anymore. Jeff's like, "Hey, come on" and says she doesn't have to run away from him just 'cause they enjoyed a good doink in Montana. He reminds her that they live in the same house and need to feel comfortable with each other...and Fallon admits that she may have overreacted, and the two relax and start bantering. Kirby suddenly appears in the doorway, looking visibly peeved that her husband and his ex-wife are being so jovial with each other. Jeff explains that he and Fallon were just shooting the breeze, then invites her to join them, but she just shoots him the stink-eye and stalks off. Jeff mutters to Fallon that he lost his appetite and runs out after Kirby. He finds her crying in the bathroom and demands that she open the door so he can explain himself. She snaps back that she has nothing to say to him, and he gets irked and tells her that she can stay in there until she can figure out what the hell's wrong with her...then declares that he's going back downstairs to make himself a sandwich.

The next morning, Fallon runs into Jeff on the staircase, and he gets all flirty with her again. Fallon wearily says, "Don't start" and continues downstairs, where she catches Blake as he's leaving for the office. He tells her he's attending an oil conference in Los Angeles tomorrow, so she asks him if she can hitch a ride with him on his private jet 'cause there's an architect she needs to meet with...and naturally Blake says that that would be A-OK with him.

Fallon enters the breakfast room and finds Adam loading up his plate with delicious looking carbs. He tells her he expects an apology from her for openly suspecting that he was the one who had poisoned Jeff, then pretends his only involvement in the sordid matter was protecting his mother. Fallon snorts derisively and says if that's actually true, he's still guilty of keeping quiet about a crime while it was being committed. She refuses to ever forgive him, and Adam glares at her and goes, "What's your problem? Are you some kind of sexual anorexic?" and says she could use some penetration, which she used to regularly get when she was more slutty. Bwahahahahaha!!!!! Fallon snarls, "How dare you speak to me like this!" and tries to slap him across the face, but he blocks the slap by grabbing her wrist. She then gets all in his face and barks, "Scum!" then storms out. Holy fucking crap that scene was unexpectedly awesome!

Steven gets a call from Alexis, summoning him to a breakfast meeting...and Claudia gets annoyed and grumbles about how frequently his mother intrudes on their personal time. Steven explains that he's been doing some research on Canadian tar sands and needs to discuss it with Alexis asap. Claudia says she's irritated by Alexis' constant demands, and Steven snaps back that he works in the oil business, and that it's not a  nine to five type of career.

Krystle flounces into Blake's office at Denver-Carrington clutching a newspaper, and Blake shoots her a grim look, says, "I know", and tells her he was just reading Alexis' version of events as to why the Denver-Carrington/ColbyCo merger was cancelled. Apparently, Alexis told the reporter she cancelled the merger 'cause of how badly Denver-Carrington's growth potential sucks. Krystle wails, "It's slander!" and Blake agrees, but says he can't sue her 'cause it'll re-open the tedious Alexis-supposedly-poisoned-Jeff storyline. Krystle asks him if it'd be OK for her to release Denver-Carrington's financials, which demonstrate a growth rate that is way more impressive than ColbyCo's. Blake gives his consent, then smiles approvingly and says, "I like your fighting style, champ" and Krystle smugly grins and says, "Oh, I've just begun to fight." He invites her to accompany him to Los Angeles tomorrow and says he's interested in buying a race horse - which seems completely random, but whatever - and Krystle agrees, then says she'd better get back to work. He asks her if she's enjoying her new job, and she flashes him a nauseatingly serene smile and says she really enjoys sharing in his work day. After she flounces out, Blake gets on the phone with Jensen the Jeweler and orders him to design a very special ring.

Alexis is lifting hand weights in her penthouse while decked out in a silly '80s style body suit, tights, and superfluous leg warmers. Jeff bursts in and asks her whaddup with her quote in today's newspaper, then scrunches his face in disgust and calls it garbage. He declares that he wants nothing more to do with her, and orders her to either sell him her shares of ColbyCo or buy him out of the company. Alexis mulls that over and agrees to the latter.

Later in the penthouse, Alexis is getting a mani and pedi while barking at her lawyer, Gerald, on the phone. She snappishly orders him to draw up papers to buy up all of Jeff's ColbyCo shares. Steven arrives at the penthouse and hands her his report on the Canadian tar sands. He says he's perplexed by her sudden interest in this 'cause he's concluded that it's not economically feasible. He then demands an explanation for why the merger was called off and asks if Blake was involved, and Alexis shakes her head dramatically and says her ex-husband's hollow threats don't bother her. When Steven shoots her a wary stink-eye, she snarks that she doesn't much care for the way he's glaring at her...and reminds him that everything she does, ultimately, is for his benefit and that of little Danny.

Jeff tells Blake he no longer owns shares of ColbyCo, then jokes that he's now pounding the pavement looking for work. Blake reminds him that he owns 47% of Denver-Carrington, is like a son to him, and invites him to look after the company while he's on his Los Angeles boondoggle. When Adam enters the office for some contrived reason, Blake tells him the good news about Jeff working at Denver-Carrington again. Adam pretends to be delighted and congratulates him...but when Blake strolls across the room to break out the champagne, Adam and Jeff glare hatefully at each other.

Claudia drops by ColbyCo to pick up Steven for dinner...and when she runs into Alexis, she bitchily admonishes her for rifling through Steven's closets in an effort to control his wardrobe and his personal life. Alexis chuckles and says she was actually rifling through her wardrobe, and Claudia's all, "Wha-a?!" and asks what's wrong with the way she dresses. Alexis tells her she badly wants to replace her frump-wear with some chic garments (yay!), and Claudia's like, "Thanks - but no thanks. I don't need any gifts from you." Alexis is like, "Uh, yeah you do" and says she doesn't seem to realize what's expected of her, now that she's Steven's wife beard...and reminds her that society and the world will judge them by how they act and dress. She apologizes if insisting on a much needed fashion makeover upsets her, then in a breathy voice asks her to accept her apology. Claudia sullenly says, "I'll think about it" and storms out.

"Is that a real question?"

Jeff is doing some paperwork in the Carrington manor study when Dex, who's casually dressed in jeans and a suede jacket (yum!), drops by to see Blake. Jeff tells him he's currently in Los Angeles, then gushes about how honored he is to meet Sam Dexter's son. The two chat about the merger, blah blah, and when Dex asks why it got called off, Jeff says he's not at liberty to say - but does tell him that he jumped ship at ColbyCo and now works for Blake again. Dex wishes him well and struts out.

Dex is admiring a painting in Alexis' penthouse when Mark enters the room, and the two men grunt introductions at each other as Alexis sweeps down the stairs. She frostily tells Mark, "You know where your room is" and Mark obediently mumbles, "The downstairs suite" and disappears downstairs. Alexis tells Dex she normally conducts business meetings in her office (not her penthouse), then asks what was so damn important. He gazes at her and replies, "A dinner invitation" then says he thought their dinner conversation could include why Jeff now works at Denver-Carrington and what really happened with the merger. Alexis politely declines his dinner invitation, then sexily sashays to the elevator and asks him to leave. Dex says he knows an excellent Italian restaurant, then suddenly grabs her and forcibly smooches her...and Mark happens to come back upstairs at that moment. Alexis asks Dex if he always goes around kissing women he hardly knows, and he nonsensically replies, "You have a fantastic mouth." LOL. As an intrigued looking Alexis stares at Dex as he exits the penthouse, Mark clears his throat to make his presence known and looks visibly miffed at having to witness the smoochfest. Alexis brusquely orders him to fix her a martini, then says in the future he's to remain in his hovel until summoned. After she heads back upstairs, Mark bitterly mutters that he should put cyanide in her martini.

Tracy tells Adam she has a press release she'd like him to sign off on, and when he absently says he'll get to it later, she insists that it needs to be released today. He looks charmed by her chutzpah and asks why she's in such a hurry...then correctly assumes it's 'cause she wants to have all the glory for the press release while Krystle is out of town. Tracy says she's eager to promote Denver-Carrington's new real estate complex - the Plaza - then admits to being ambitious and liking tooting her own horn. Adam suddenly gets buzzed to report to Jeff's office immediately...and on his way out, he smiles seductively at Tracy and says, "Don't go anywhere, I'll be back."

Jeff orders Adam to look into a foreman who's been getting complained about by his employees. He's probably one of those douchebag workplace bullies. Adam says he doesn't have time for the menial task 'cause he's too busy dealing with the new Carrington Plaza, and Jeff snarks that he probably just made that up to get out of dealing with the foreman. (That my was impression too.) He asks Adam why he insists on fighting him on everything, and Adam says it's 'cause he's never treated him as an equal. Jeff growls, "That's a crock" and claims that he's just miffed at him 'cause he married Kirby...and Adam denies that and bitchily announces that he's off to the Plaza.

Adam returns to his office, where Tracy is dutifully waiting. He tells her he likes ambition, then presses his body against hers and plants a big smooch on her...'cause, yeah, that's an appropriate way to behave toward subordinates in the workplace. Tracy looks kind of into it, but then teasingly tells him she doesn't mix business with pleasure. When she extricates herself from his grip, he approves her press release and says, "This round goes to you...but I'll win" then chuckles as she flounces back to her office.

Blake, Krystle, and Fallon arrive at a horse track in Los Angeles. Blake runs into some guy named Ed McFaddon...and the two, along with Krystle, head off to the bar to get caught up. Fallon, meanwhile, sits at a table and places a bet on one of the horses...and a handsome stranger with a European accent, who just happens to be sitting behind her, urges her to change her bet and wager on a different horse. Fallon lets her original bet stand and sassily tells the man she always makes her own decisions. A little while later, the horse race begins...and we get to watch the whole looooong thing in real time. Fallon is bummed when her horse ends up losing to the horse that the handsome stranger urged her to bet on.

That evening, the handsome stranger shows up at Fallon's hotel room with a bouquet made up of roses and cash. He explains that he placed a $1,000 bet for her on his horse and is now presenting her with her winnings. Fallon says she can't possibly accept this weird gift and asks him how on earth he figured out which room (or hotel, for that matter) she was staying in. He vaguely says he got her name from "friends at the track", and then introduces himself as Peter De Vilbis. Fallon nods knowingly and calls him "an infamous playboy", and he doesn't deny it and breezily says he works very hard in fourteen countries. He then opens the door and motions for the hotel staff to wheel in a food filled cart...and a few seconds later, a small group of violinist arrive. Peter jokingly says, "Management ordered this" and Fallon looks charmed and starts giggling. Peter stares at her with creepish intensity...and in the next scene, the two are slow dancing to violin music. When the musicians finish their song, Peter thanks them, pays them, and dismisses them. Fallon thanks him for a special evening, and he says, "It vill be a good night for us. I vant you" and kisses her intensely. He stares deeply into her eyes and smugly declares, "And you vant me" then kisses her again. Fallon looks overcome with desire as he slides off her nightgown, and thankfully the uber-schmaltzy scene fades to black.

The next morning, Fallon and Peter wake up in the sack together, spooning. He smarmily gushes about how beautiful she is in the morning, and she grins and asks him how he knew which horse going to win the race. He says he used to own the winning horse, and that he flew it to the United States to raise it. Fallon marvels about all the things he owns - the winning horse, this hotel - and says he reminds her of a man she's admired her whole life (oh ick...she's talking about Blake). Peter gamely says he can take that competition, and the two start going at it again.

Fallon enters the hotel restaurant where Blake and Krystle are dining and tells them she's going to stay in Los Angeles for a few extra days. She assures them that everything is wonderful, then mentions that she has an appointment with the architect. After she rushes off, a perplexed Blake tells Krystle that Fallon had a peculiar glow about her, and that it's weird she'd be so excited about meeting with an architect. He then hands Krystle a rose from the centerpiece and smarmily says he can't tell which is prettier: her or the flower.

Peter, meanwhile, is back in his hotel suite, snorting blow. His lawyer drops by to remind him that he owes The Italians $6 million. Peter tells him he just met a fascinating girl whose father has millions, and that the money may take a couple of days to extract from her.

Jeff is meeting with Kirby's doctor to ask him if it's medically OK for her to go on a cruise. The doctor's like, "Yep, it's OK for a woman who's five months pregnant to go sailing around the ocean" and Jeff furrows his furry brows and says, actually, she's only three months along. The doctor then brazenly violates doctor/patient confidentiality and says she was three months pregnant at the time of her first appointment...but that was two months ago. Jeff quickly does the math, is all, "Wha-a?!" and speeds home.

Jeff storms into the mansion and cocks his head to the side when he hears Kirby's piano playing. He stalks over to the sitting room and tells his wife he wants to talk to her upstairs NOW! She trails behind him, looking puzzled and repeatedly asks whassup. Jeff waits until they reach their bedroom, then demands to know what game she's playing, and accuses her of marrying him while knowing she was pregnant. Kirby looks sheepishly horrified and says she didn't know she was knocked up when they got married, and assures him that she doesn't love the man who impregnated her. When Jeff continues to glare at her, she shrieks, "I was raped!" Jeff asks her who raped her, and she tears up and squeaks, "Adam." Jeff looks shocked, then enraged, then completely icked out as he stares at her in disbelief and mumbles, "My God. You're carrying Adam's baby?"

That was kind of a strange, dickish reaction.

Dex makes himself at home in Blake's board room

"Dex"
Original airdate: 11/23/1983

Episode summary: Alexis agrees to cancel the merger of ColbyCo and Denver-Carrington, and gets unexpectedly smooched by newcomer Dex Dexter.
Recap: Steven drops by Alexis' office and tells her he just ran into an angry Blake in the elevator. Alexis poutishly complains that Blake bombarded her with empty threats, and Steven's all, "Wha-a?" and asks her for details. She assures him she can handle the old goat, then urges him to go on home to his family...and when Steven offers to drop her off at the penthouse, she fibs and says she has a heavy date planned. After Steven heads home, Alexis orders her male secretary to summon Adam to her penthouse at 8pm - no excuses.

Blake pretends to look over Krystle's upcoming PR presentation, which she's neatly cobbled together in a binder, and tells her it looks just fine. He says he'd like her to attend tomorrow's board meeting...and also have dinner with him tonight. Krystle beams and happily accepts.

Tracy is sitting in Krystle's chair, barking at someone on the phone, "Do you understand?! All press releases go through me!!" When Krystle unexpectedly flounces into the room, Tracy pales and says she thought she left for the day, then struggles to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why she's not using her own desk and phone. Krystle shoots her one of her nauseatingly serene smiles and says that no excuses are needed and that she can sit wherever she likes (which is dumb - tell her to make calls from her own phone). She invites Tracy to lunch sometime so they can discuss how a Public Relations department is supposed to run...and Tracy rubs in the fact that she has lots of experience in the field by telling her that she used to work in PR when she lived in New York, but found it too cutthroat and likes the pace of Denver much better. Krystle's like, "Yeah, whatever" and announces that she has a dinner date with goat daddy. Tracy fake gushes about the special glow she has about her...and Krystle grins and tells her not to work too late. Once Krystle is safely out of earshot, Tracy contorts her face in an angry expression and snaps, "Good night, boss."

Jeff drops in on Alexis to accuse her of trying to kill him with the toxic paint, but Alexis denies that's she's ever done anything to hurt him. He reminds her that she tried to drag him off to Switzerland in the Battle Lines episode, presumably to finish the job she started...but Alexis dramatically shakes her head and cries, "No!" and says she was only trying to protect him and help him to get well. Jeff doesn't buy that and now thinks she might also be responsible for Cecil's death, and snipes, "Black widow." He then demands that she sell him back the shares of ColbyCo she tricked him into signing over to her when he was all squirrelly from the toxic paint, and Alexis is all, "Wha-a? Tonight?" Jeff says he's not going anywhere until she calls her lawyer and gets the papers drawn up, and Alexis lets out a loud sigh and calls Gerald.

"Who else would have tried to poison me with toxic paint?"

"I'll give you a hint: his name rhymes with Wadam."

Blake and Krystle are dining at a swanky restaurant, engaging in flirty banter. He reminds her that this is the very restaurant they went to on their first date, and Krystle recalls being very nervous...and that she fell in love with him [and his wealth...mostly his wealth] on that date. Blake puts his sad face on and says he can't help but assume that she fell out of love with him when she moved to the La Mirage, but Krystle smilingly assures him that he didn't lose her...she just wanted to be alone for awhile to "find" herself.

Jeff tells Kirby that he and Fallon went to Montana to investigate Adam for possibly trying to kill him via paint poisoning, and she gets annoyed that he didn't tell her this earlier. He promises to share everything with her from now on, and she snarkishly goes, "Everything? Even your love?" and accuses him of being interested in another woman...and by another woman, she means Fallon. Jeff says he can't just block Fallon out of his life, then half-heartedly chokes out an I love you. Kirby orders him to prove it, then strips off his shirt and barks, "Love me now!" Jeff irritably says his pecker's not in the mood right now, then angrily retorts, "Love means more to me than just performance!" and storms out of the bedroom.

Alexis arrives at the penthouse wearing a fantastic fur coat with a matching hat, and finds Adam drinking at her little bar. She urges him to put the drink down, 'cause the conversation they're about to have is going to require that he has all of his wits about him. She says that since he framed her for Jeff's poisoning, she's no longer protecting him from anything. She vows that he won't get away with tricking her into signing the toxic paint invoices...then stares at him with her head cocked to the side and says she doesn't even know him sometimes. She breathily asks, "Who are you?" and he smugly retorts, "My mother's son." Alexis says that she, unlike him, would never kill anyone to gain power, and Adam mulls that over for a few seconds and says, "If put to the test, I wonder." A frustrated Alexis orders him to tell Blake the truth about his role in Jeff's poisoning, but Adam says he's happy with the version of the story he told his father and has no plans to change it. He shoots her the stink-eye and says, "People do finally get what they deserve" and stiffly stalks over to the elevator.

In front of her door at the La Mirage, Krystle thanks Blake for a lovely evening...and when Blake tries to get invited in for a "brandy", she declines and stammers, "It was a lovely evening, but - " and Blake says he understands. He smiles and says, "You're working now. You need your sleep" then leans in for a good night smooch. Blech.

Jeff tells Fallon he got all of his ColbyCo shares back from Alexis...then gazes at her wantonly. Fallon tells him to knock it off and snaps, "What about Kirby?" but Jeff continues to gaze at her and says he still thinks they belong together and can't believe their marriage is over. Fallon disagrees and tells him she has no desire to be tied town, and would prefer to be hitting the sack with someone who doesn't need her as pathetically as he seems to. Jeff asks, "A young Blake Carrington..?" - ew ew &^%$#! ew ew ew!! - and Fallon mulls over the disturbing suggestion and tells Jeff she has no desire to go backwards in life. Or dabble in anything that might give viewers the idea that she secretly yearns to doink her daddy.

Alexis is roused awake when she thinks she hears noises, and rushes downstairs. She cries, "Who's there? Adam?" then turns the lights on and peeks around fearfully, but there's no sign of an intruder in her penthouse.

Steven and Claudia are in bed, doing their best to enjoy a hetero canoodle. Claudia moans to Steven about how much she missed him when he was in San Francisco...and a few seconds later, Alexis calls and breathily exclaims, "Thank God you're there!" She tells Steven she thinks someone is in her apartment, but she's too terrified to look around. Steven assures her the building is secure - and Alexis says she knows she's being irrational, but still wants someone to come over and tell her she's not in mortal danger. Steven sighs and says, "I'm on my way", then kisses Claudia and gets dressed.

"I need you to come over and confirm that I don't have an intruder."

"Now? I'm almost done psyching myself up for a hetero romp with Claudia."

Blake's butler (new majordomo??) tells him that Farnsworth Dexter from Wyoming called and that he'll be in Denver for a few days and would like to meet with him before the board meeting. Blake nods curtly and thanks the manservant.

Steven searches the penthouse, but finds no sign of an intruder. He assures Alexis that everything is locked up, and she thanks him and breathily tells him he's the only son she can trust. Steven doubts that Adam would break in and do anything nefarious - but Alexis points out that he's a deranged psychopath who has a key to the penthouse. Steven breezily reminds her that she's his mother and therefore probably not in any real danger, then urges her to get some sleep. After he leaves, Alexis stares into space and has a flashback of when she first met Adam...then heads over to the phone and asks the operator for a listing for a Dr. Edwards of Billings, Montana.

Mark approaches Krystle at the La Mirage and says he wants to explain the attempted rape the other night. He says, "I was drunk, and I came on like an idiot" but Krystle says she's not angry after being violently assaulted by him 'cause he once saved her from dying in a burning cabin. One cancels out the other, I guess. She reminds him that they're just friends, and he agrees and sulkily whines, "You don't have to paint me a picture" even though it's clear he needs a gigantic painting that illustrates the various reasons why he and Krystle can never again be anything resembling lovers.
Picture

"Sorry about trying to rape you the other night."

Picture

"Apparently, rescuing me from a burning cabin cancels out a violent assault. So we're square now."

Mark drops by Alexis' penthouse and accepts the offer she once made to become her bodyguard. Alexis smirkily says she knew he'd find the offer tempting, then hires him. She makes it clear, however, that anything resembling a booty call between the two of them will be a no go...and tells him his quarters are downstairs, and that he'll be at her beck and call 24/7 for whatever inane tasks she needs him to do. Marks says he can start in a week, and she waves him away and tells him she has phone calls to make.

Blake is eating breakfast when the butler announces that Mr. Farnsworth Dexter is here...and then - yay! - "Dex" Dexter finally makes his hottastic Dynasty debut. Blake clucks sympathetically about his father's recent heart attack, and Dex says that since his recovery will be long and slow, he'll be representing all of his father's business interests. He says he heard a rumor that the ColbyCo/Denver-Carrington merger is being called off...and is miffed 'cause he thought the merger was the right move for the company. He then snarks at Blake for abandoning his father in the midst of all the merger turmoil, and says he shouldn't make the mistake of confusing him with his father 'cause he "rarely bends and never breaks". He snaps, "I'll see you at the meeting!" and bitchily stomps out. Prickly fellow, that Dex.
Picture

"Your father is a good man. I've always admired him."

Picture

"Thanks. I've always found you to be a giant douche."

Alexis arrives in Billings and heads straight to Dr. Edwards' office. She tells him she has doubts about Adam really being her son, but Dr. Edwards assures her that he's definitely the real Adam, 'cause he was kidnapped as a baby the same day that Adam Carrington disappeared and somehow that's irrefutable proof. (I wonder why he doesn't suggest a blood test, like the show did when Blake wanted to prove that Fallon was his spawn.) Alexis tells him that Adam betrayed her in a horrible way, and she'd love to expose him for the fraud he is. Dr. Edwards urges her to forgive his crimes, but Alexis insists, "Attempted murder can't be forgiven." Dr. Edwards tells her there may be an explanation for his murderous tendencies... like perhaps they're a result of the "mind expanding drugs" he was once hooked on. Alexis is all, "Wha-a?" so he blabs that Adam once took drugs, got all squirrelly, and exhibited all sorts of distorted judgement and paranoia. He asks Alexis if she'd turn her back on Adam if he were physically disabled, and when she mournfully stares into space, he says she has no choice but to coddle the psycho for the rest of her life.
Picture

"Adam's mental problems stem from all the mind-altering drugs he took. So it looks like you're going to have to treat his psychotic behavior as a disability."

Picture

"Drats."

Blake enters the board room and finds Dex reclining on a chair with his feet on the table...and when Blake glares at the brazen show of disrespect, Dex sheepishly takes his feet down. He explains that he got here early 'cause he doesn't like being late to a "poker game" and knows that Alexis "deals in very high cards". Er, OK..? Alexis, meanwhile, gets off the elevator and runs into Krystle. She cattily tells Krystle that the typing pool is on the first floor - bwahahaha! - and that they don't need secretaries at the meeting. Krystle smugly tells her she's no longer a secretary now that her sugar daddy handed her a top level job she's in no way qualified for...and that she'll be taking notes during the meeting in order to write up a press release. She caustically says, "I'll be sure and send you a copy" and Alexis tries not to laugh as she says, "I can't wait to read your first attempt at literacy." Hee! Me either!

The board meeting is underway when Alexis enters the room. Blake orders her to make a statement regarding the merger, so she says she can no longer recommend the merger of Denver-Carrington and ColbyCo 'cause of how dwarfish Denver-Carrington is in comparison to the awesome goliath that is ColbyCo. Blake grins happily, Dex looks turned on, and the rest of the board members unintelligibly murmur their surprise. When the meeting adjourns and the room empties out, Alexis buries her head in her hands and looks defeated.

Blake and Jeff toast each other on the non-merger, and Blake coos about how sweet victory is. He then puts his serious face on and says he takes little joy in knowing that Alexis is still walking free after what she did to him. Jeff concurs and says she's not finished paying for her crimes.

Krystle sarcastically congratulates Alexis on her performance, and Alexis wearily says, "Not now. I'm not in the mood for your gloating." Krystle says she's merely commenting on what she saw, and Alexis says, "What you thought you saw" then shuffles out of the room. She runs into Adam, who asks her if she had a tough morning. She tells him he has cost her a great deal - but that it's all good 'cause he's her son...and regardless of all the psychotic things he's ever done or ever will do, she'll never not love him. She then steps onto the elevator, and a discombobulated looking Adam stares after her in silent contemplation.

Alexis sits in her office and stares sadly out the window while sipping a stiff drink. Dex enters her office, and a startled Alexis asks him what the hell he wants now that her business with Denver-Carrington has officially been terminated. He says, "Unfinished business" and walks right up to her and gives her a hard smooch. Mmm...that was completely nonsensical, but hot nonetheless. He says he admired her style during the meeting - but liked it better during that kiss. He says they have something in common and should do business together, then gabbles about how he wants to tap into the tar sands of Canada. Alexis says extracting that oil can be very expensive, but he insists that with his muscle and her company's clout, they can make it happen. He's willing to give her 40% of the profits, and she chuckles and demands 80%. He proposes they make it a 50/50 split...but in the end she declines the partnership altogether. Dex snarks that perhaps she's not as smart as he thought...and as he struts toward the door, he says, "But you're a fantastic woman to kiss. Fantastic!" LOL. After he exits the room, Alexis stares after him and touches her lips, no doubt thinking about how fantastic a man he was to kiss.

"Tracy"
Original airdate: 11/16/1983

Episode summary: Adam frames Alexis for Jeff's poisoning and convinces Blake that she was the culprit. Krystle accepts the position of Public Relations head at Denver-Carrington, which enrages top-executive-wannabe Tracy Kendall. Kirby suspects Jeff and Fallon of having an affair.
Recap: When Blake is unable to track down Adam, he returns to his office and tells Fallon and Jeff that he must have gone out somewhere...and that they should go on home but keep mum about their suspicions regarding Adam's role in Jeff's poisoning. Fallon doesn't like that idea and argues that Adam nearly killed Jeff - but Blake says he doesn't want to repeat the mistake of not giving someone the benefit of the doubt, then reminds them about how he tattled his suspicions to the police about Mark Jennings setting the cabin fire that almost killed Krystle and Alexis. He insists on being absolutely certain that Adam is guilty of lacing the paint in Jeff's office with mercuric oxide before he starts throwing around what could be wild accusations.

Adam returns to the Toxic Paint Store and pretends he needs to verify a past purchase. The clerk digs up the paperwork...and when he's not looking, Adam quickly switches the invoices that he signed with the fake invoices he tricked Alexis into signing.

Alexis is over at Steven's apartment, wrapping up a visit with Danny. She coos to Claudia about how adorable the baby is, then smugly says that Blake losing the custody lawsuit was awesome 'cause it means Steven gets to keep his son...plus, she got to testify in court about what an insufferable dickwad Blake is. Claudia shakes her head disapprovingly and says, "I'm sure you spoke the truth as you saw it...but there's always more than one side to the truth." She reminds Alexis that Blake, however giant a dickwad he may be, is still Danny's grandfather...and she doesn't think that his relationship with his grandson should be poisoned. She then gabbles about how Matthew's mother hated her with the intensity of a thousand suns, but looooved Lindsay, and Alexis just kind of rolls her eyes disinterestedly. Steven arrives home, kisses Claudia hello and says hey to his mother, who tells him he needs to fly with her to San Francisco tomorrow morning to meet with the head of ColbyCo's west coast operations. Steven doesn't look thrilled by the last minute trip, but Alexis tells him it's only a lunch meeting, so they should be back in Denver by dinnertime.

In Denver-Carrington's Public Relations Department, top-executive-wannabe Tracy Kendall is holding a poster featuring a bland rendering of Blake with an oil rig in the background above the headline Denver-Carrington: 25 Years of Oil Progress. Her boss, Bill Rockwell, calls it "a fine piece of work" and a nice going away present for him before he retires from the company. Tracy laments his imminent departure, but he assures her she'll be so busy running the department she'll barely notice he's gone. They're interrupted by a call from Krystle, who invites Bill to lunch tomorrow to talk about - surprise! - her new job as head of Public Relations. She explains that Blake just appointed her to take over the department - despite her lack of experience or credentials in anything public relations related...and she wants to pick his brain before he leaves. Bill hides his dismay at the brazen nepotism and agrees to meet Krystle at the La Mirage tomorrow at 1pm. After he hangs up, he breaks the news to Tracy and assures her that she's a stellar employee and would have gotten the promotion if Blake were in the habit of awarding promotions based on merit. Tracy pretends to be A-OK with the decision and fake gushes about how she'll be the best darn assistant Krystle's ever had (even though Krystle's only ever been a secretary)...but when Bill exits the office, Tracy grabs the ugly Blake poster, rips it up, and throws the pieces onto the floor.

"You gotta be shittin' me."

Mark drops by Krystle's room at the La Mirage to invite her to join him for dinner and drinks, but she declines and says she has too much on her mind at the moment. Mark's like, "Hey, me too. Let's share what's on our minds over dinner!" but Krystle tells him she's just not very hungry. For some reason, her response causes Mark to go all squirrelly crazy, and he snarls, "You just don't want to spend time with me" and reminds her that he used to be her husband. He growls, "What we had was gooood" and suggests they become lovers, get married, and move far away from Denver. The fuck? Krystle firmly tells him they're friends and nothing more...and as she turns to walk away from him, he grabs her arm and rips off the entire sleeve of her silky blue blouse. He yells, "I don't believe that!!" and reminds her about how great the sex always was between them...and to "prove" his point, he launches an attack [which, by the way, seems completely out of character for him] and shoves her onto the couch and mounts her as she struggles and screams at him to stop. He growls, "You don't want me to stop! You never wanted me to stop!" and she responds by giving him a hard smack on the head. He halts his attack, and for some reason clutches his abdomen (I even hit rewind just to be sure). She orders him to get the hell out of her room, then rushes over to the door and holds it open. After he obediently lumbers out, Krystle scrunches her face and starts sobbing. What a weird, random scene.

"I'm going to show you how good sex has always been between us by shoving you onto this couch and wrestling you into submission."

"Nope - it wasn't hot when Blake did this to me in Season 1, and it's definitely not hot now!"

Alexis phones up a Mr. Hutchinson at the west coast office of ColbyCo and brusquely orders him to travel to Anchorage for no purpose and to cancel all of his appointments in San Francisco for tomorrow. Hmm...

Adam is in bed with a hooker he frequently doinks, and she barks at him to stop being so rough. Adam gets irked and snaps, "Time's up - is that it?!" so the hooker complains that he's never gentle with her the way he used to be...and that it seems like he's working out all of his personal problems with rough sex. She's all, "Tell momma what's wrong", so Adam pours himself a drink and admits that he's been under a lot of pressure lately. He says he's about to tell a big whopper of a lie to a man who stands for truth and honesty (assuming he means Blake - say what?!)...and if it all goes bad, he'll lose what he's been starving for his entire life: a sense of belonging to a family headed by a douchebag patriarch.

When Adam arrives at the mansion, Blake is waiting up for him and brusquely orders him to join him in the study right now.

After the commercial break, Blake is shaking his head and muttering, "My God...why didn't you come to me sooner with this?" Adam says he didn't have proof that Alexis poisoned Jeff, just a suspicion. He fake recalls how he told Alexis about the mercuric oxide case he was involved with in Montana...and when Jeff turned up poisoned soon after, he figured she had to have been the one who did it. He says Alexis was the one who chose the paint for Jeff's office, and that when Jeff was being hospitalized, she had the panels removed and burned. Blake nods and states, "She just hid her crime." He sympathizes with Adam for going through hell protecting his mother, but assures him they're going to make it right...and make her pay. The camera then pans in for a lengthy closeup of Blake's angry wrinkled face.

During a private meeting in the solarium, Blake updates Jeff and Fallon about Adam's version of events...and Jeff mulls it over and decides it all makes sense. As for Alexis, he's ready to settle the score with that she-devil...but Blake cautions him that for now it's just a theory without any tangible proof.

Kirby tells Jeff they need to talk, but he's like, "Nope - don't feel like it" and says he's not at liberty to discuss what's currently going on between him, Fallon, and Blake. He abruptly leaves the room, and Kirby stares after him looking irked.

Jeff runs into Fallon on his way out, and she urges him to take the day off and stay far away from ColbyCo. As a still irked Kirby watches them from the upper landing of the stairs, Fallon tells Jeff she's off to the stables to go horseback riding, and he offers to drop her off...and the two exchange light banter and laughter on their way to the door.

Kirby drives out to the stables to confront Fallon about getting too flirty with her man. Fallon assures her she has no designs on Jeff, and that whatever is messing up their relationship is between the two of them. She urges Kirby to talk it out with Jeff, then heads back to her horse. Kirby stares into space and summons a flashback of when she admitted to Krystle that her baby is Adam's and recalls Krystle asking her if she can live with herself if she doesn't tell Jeff about the rape. She snarkishly declares to the camera that indeed she can live with not telling Jeff the truth. So there.

Krystle and Bill Rockwell are having lunch at the La Mirage, discussing her new role as Denver-Carrington's Public Relations head. Krystle says she fully realizes that people in the company are probably tittering about how/why she got the job, and Bill points out that, yep, it's shameless nepotism all right...then just kind of shrugs and says, "It's a fact of business life. The main thing is that you're good." LOL?! Krystle chuckles about how she's never written a press release in her life, so Bill tells her that Tracy Kendall is a great assistant, and that she should make use of her in order to distract employees from all the gossip about the ridiculousness of Blake appointing his former/soon-to-be-future trophy wife as head of an important department. After their lunch, Mark approaches Krystle and apologizes for last night's attempted rape. He explains that he had too much to drink, but Krystle says she doesn't want to talk about it, snaps, "Forget it!" and flounces off.
Picture

"I'm sure that everyone at Denver-Carrington is gossiping about how ridiculous it is for someone with no credentials or experience to be appointed head of Public Relations."

Picture

"That's a giant understatement."

Blake gruffly tells Adam he's going to track down all the companies in Denver that produce mercuric oxide, and Adam nods and then stares worriedly into space.

Blake arrives at the Toxic Paint Store and asks the clerk to pull any invoices for paint purchases from ColbyCo. He finds the fake invoices that Adam tricked Alexis into signing, mutters, "Alexis", and gravely nods at his investigative genius.

Fallon finds Claudia in her office at the La Mirage, working on the floorplan of an upcoming event. She urges Claudia to book off some vacation time so that she and Steven can go on a honeymoon...but Claudia tells her that they can't 'cause Steven is currently in San Francisco with Alexis. Fallon makes a face and cautions her to watch out for her manipulative mother and her various ulterior motives.

Steven phones Claudia at the apartment and tells her he needs to stay in San Francisco overnight, 'cause apparently Mr. Hutchinson abruptly left town and won't be back until tomorrow. Claudia gets irked at the change of plans and bitchily cuts the call short. When Alexis breezes into the room, she asks Steven whassup, then says it's understandable that Claudia isn't thrilled about being alone with the baby, but credits her for being far less squirrelly than she was pre-funny farm. She says she'd like them to all be closer and tells Steven about an available duplex apartment in her building...which would mean they could see each other all the time! Yay! 'Cause who wouldn't want to live in the same building as their scheming mother/mother-in-law? Steven wisely nixes that idea, and adds that he's extremely annoyed by this surprise business trip, aka wild goose chase.

In the mansion's study, Blake informs Adam and Andy that Alexis is in San Francisco on business, then barks about how he wants her to be prosecuted for attempted murder. An exasperated Andy reminds him that they just wrapped up a court case he was on the losing side of, then snaps, "Is it out of your system yet?" Hee! He urges Blake to look at this from a legal perspective and to not always be so reactive to his idiotic emotions. Blake snarls, "I don't care about that, I'm looking at this from a human point of view!" and reminds Andy about how much Jeff physically suffered, and that his marriage to Fallon was destroyed. Andy admonishes him for being so blinded by his hatred for Alexis, then turns to Adam and starts peppering him with questions. He says he finds it hard to believe that in all the time he spent with his mother, she never once dropped a clue that she was slowly poisoning Jeff. Adam insists she didn't...so then Andy tells him that as a lawyer, he should know that signed invoices are not enough evidence to take Alexis to court. He checks his watch and mutters, "It's late" and announces he's fed up with this bullcack and going home. Once he's out of earshot, Adam whines to Blake that he doesn't appreciate Andy's doubts about his innocence, and Blake's like, "Whatever" and assures him that he believes he's telling the truth.
Picture

"Must everything that upsets you personally be dragged through the court system?"

Picture

"You've met me, right?"

Kirby, who's laying in bed beside Jeff, says she wants to talk now...but Jeff isn't into it. She apologizes for being so moody lately and says, "I love you", and when he returns the I love you, she poutishly replies, "I don't know that. Show me how much. Make love to me." Jeff says the timing is bad, and that it feels like she's demanding something. Ouch. She accuses him of being fixated on someone else, but he denies it and says he can't talk about what's been bothering him other than to say, "It's complicated."

Tracy is carefully placing a plant on Krystle's desk when Krystle enters the office and introduces herself. Tracy fake gushes about how happy she was when she learned she'd be working for her, and Krystle counter-gushes about all the great things she's heard about her, and that she'll need all the help she can get. That's safe to say. Blake enters the room and formally shakes Krystle's hand as a welcoming gesture, then asks Tracy if he can check out the poster she designed for the company's 25th anniversary. Tracy tells him she wasn't satisfied with it and wanted to come up with a layout he truly deserves...which, hopefully, will be something more inspiring than a bland rendering of Blake's wrinkly face. She then exits the office, and once she's safely in the hall, glares angrily into space. Blake asks Krystle if she likes her corner office, and she looks around and says, "It's all very nice." She asks him if he has second thoughts/is embarrassed about hiring her for a high level position for which she is in no way qualified, and he says he doesn't and that he's going to really dig having her around.
Picture

"Where's that poster of me looking so dashing?"

Picture

"It wasn't worthy of you, so I tore it up and threw it on the floor."

Blake drops by ColbyCo to warn Steven about "what may come to pass" between him and Alexis, and apologizes in advance for any future awkwardness. He then offers him the Denver-Carrington shares he was going to gift Danny before he discovered he was shacking up with Chris - but Steven declines and says that all his son needs in life is a chance to grow up with and be loved by his father. He then tells Blake to get lost 'cause he has a lot of work to do.

Alexis drops by Denver-Carrington to ask Adam why the San Francisco people only received one signed oil lease document, and reminds him that he asked her to sign three leases. Adam says he sent them off to his Hong Kong contact - but Alexis says she's already figured out that this "Hong Kong contact" doesn't actually exist. She glares at him and asks, "What are you up to?" then declares that whatever it is, he won't get away with it.

Blake is waiting for Alexis when she flounces into her office. He grabs her by the arm and snarls, "Mercuric oxide mixed with paint??" Alexis gasps, then pretends she has no idea what he's talking about, so he accuses her of trying to murder Jeff. She dramatically exclaims, "You're mad! That's a lie!" so Blake pulls out the fake purchase orders that Adam tricked her into signing. She looks at them and murmurs, "Oh God.." Blake orders her to call off the merger of ColbyCo and Denver-Carrington and warns her that if she doesn't, he'll go to the press with the documents and insinuate that she tried to murder Jeff to obtain sole control over her empire. After Blake storms out, Alexis stares at the signed invoices, then calls Adam and orders him to hightail it to her penthouse. He tells her he's too busy and tries to sound casual when he asks to what it's pertaining, and she snaps, "You know damn well what!" then declares that his days of getting away with it have just ended.

"I move that the custody suit be dropped on the grounds that my client is now pretending to live his life as a hetero married man."

"Tender Comrades"
Original airdate: 11/9/1983

Episode summary: Steven and Claudia elope to Reno and are later awarded custody of Danny. Fallon and Jeff find proof that Adam poisoned Jeff in Season 3. Krystle convinces Kirby to tell Jeff the truth about her baby daddy.
Recap: Blake summons Andy to the mansion to discuss his strategy in court tomorrow, then warns him he doesn't want anymore surprise witnesses who are going to trash-talk Steven.

Steven, Claudia, and Danny are on a plane, en route to Reno. Steven is now rethinking their quickie wedding plans and tells Claudia it's not fair to ask her to marry an ambiguously gay-straight man just so he can get custody of his son - but Claudia insists that she really really wants to show him how much he means to her. She then reminds him that Danny is his first priority, and that the only way of guaranteeing that he retain custody of the tot is to create the illusion of being in a stable, hetero marriage.

Krystle drops in on Sammy Jo at the La Mirage and admonishes her for lying about Steven during her testimony. She says her lies could prevent Steven from getting custody of Danny, thereby ensuring that Blake scores a bitter victory. Sammy Jo accuses her of making big promises about how she and Blake were going to raise Danny, but then handed him over to Steven soon after he was recast...which is totally nonsensical, since Krystle offered to raise Danny during the time everyone thought Steven was dead. She orders Krystle out of her room, and Krystle stares at her with pensive disdain and says it's a good thing her mother isn't around to see what a malevolent, self-centered brat she turned out to be...and Sammy Jo shrieks, "Get out of my rooooom!"

As Andy reads aloud his closing remarks to Blake, Blake barks at him to avoid referencing any of the lies Sammy Jo spouted about Steven. He reminds Andy that he launched this custody lawsuit to prevent his gay son and his male lover from ruining Danny's life by subjecting him to "that kind of environment" - so then Andy, who's suddenly grown a pair, tells him there's absolutely no proof that a boy raised by a gay will become - shudder! - a gay himself...which is awkward 'cause that's the crux of Blake's case against Steven. Andy says the best he can do to try to win the case is paint Steven as an unfit parent - but Blake forbids him from making any personal attacks. Andy gets fed up and outright tells Blake how much it pisses him off that he's being using as a whipping boy in this lawsuit, then suggests he drop the dumb thing and focus on getting Krystle back...maybe by treating her like a partner instead of a possession. Blake stares contemplatively into space as he mulls over the concept of treating his former trophy wife as an equal.

"Can you at least try to be a less controlling dickwad to everyone in your life?"

Picture

"I do try...but then I always seem to fall back into my usual dickwad patterns."

Jeff and Fallon are naked-cuddling in Fallon's room at the Montana Pines Lodge. Jeff wakes up in the middle of the night and quietly gets out of bed - and Fallon wakes up and wryly tells him he doesn't need to tiptoe around. Jeff sheepishly says that he and the wine are responsible for their impromptu doink, but Fallon argues that she wanted him just as much, and the two agree it was a very very good doink. That said, she urges him to forget it happened - but Jeff doesn't seem to want to, and admits that he has feelings for her that won't go away. He tells her that when he phoned Kirby earlier and told her they were in Montana together, Kirby got upset and snarked about what might happen between them. Fallon swiftly changes the subject and reminds Jeff that the reason they came to Montana was to find out exactly what kind of psychotic nut Adam really is.

Alexis wakes up in the middle of the night, calls out, "Who's there?" and runs downstairs in her silk nightgown. She anxiously searches the penthouse's main living area, but there's no sign of anyone. She calls Harold to ask him if anyone came up to her apartment, but he reminds her that that's impossible 'cause she has her elevator locked. She double-checks to make sure it really is locked, then makes a second phone call to Steven to commiserate...and gets irked at Chris when he brusquely tells her that Steven isn't home.

Steven and Claudia are in a chapel in Reno, exchange vows. Steven refers to her as "teacher, tender comrade, wife"...and after the minister pronounces them husband and wife-beard, they smooch.

Adam is in his office, typing a document on a little electric typewriter. He mutters, "Alexis Colby.." and tells himself that his latest scheme will put an end to any link between himself and mercuric oxide. When he finishes typing up the papers, he carefully places them into a folder and stares contemplatively into space.

Steven and Claudia are laying naked in bed together, after-glowing. He asks her if she's happy, and she assures him she's very very happy...and then Steven does that cringy thing that all newly married TV grooms do and tenderly refers to her as Mrs. Carrington, and says he's loved her for a looooong time. She tells him she's loved him ever since he dropped that coffee cup on her kitchen floor in Season 1 and promises to love him for the foreseeable future. As they smooch, Danny wakes up in his crib and gurgles happily...and Steven chuckles at his adorable son in his adorable onesy, but then quickly turns back into his usual glum self and says he's not looking forward to the shitstorm that awaits them in Denver. Claudia says she's pretty sure the judge will buy their matrimonial act and award them custody of Danny...but then they both stare over at Danny concernedly.

Whatever, you two

Picture

"Haha! Daddy married a beard."

Over breakfast in the solarium, Adam asks Blake if he has any idea when Jeff and Fallon are due back in town, and Blake is like, "I dunno" and cluelessly waxes on about how happy he is to have him back at Carrington manor, as well as the family company. He asks Adam if he feels any conflict of loyalty regarding his mother, and Adam manages to keep a straight face and says, "Of course not", then admits he's worried about how Blake will react when the companies merge and they all have to be civil to Alexis on a daily basis. Blake assures him it's all good, and that no matter what happens, he has his love and no longer needs to earn it...and Adam grins devilishly.

Fallon and Jeff arrive at a ranch somewhere in Montana to talk to a cowboy dude named Jud Barrows. He confirms that a friend of his had been poisoned with mercuric oxide...and that when he figured out he had been poisoned, he hired a hot young lawyer named Michael Torrence, who got him a good settlement. Fallon pales and tells Jeff that Michael Torrence was Adam's alias/kidnapped name when he first arrived in Denver.

Adam drops by the penthouse with what he tells Alexis are some "routine papers" for her to sign. She glares at him suspiciously and asks him why he would take the time to personally deliver routine papers, so he tells her he's being super accommodating 'cause he knows she's due in court this morning. He tells her that the papers are just about some boring oil leases, and Alexis gives up carefully reading each one and just signs them, thinking she's signing multiple copies of the same document. Later, when Adam is alone in the elevator, he smirkingly rips up the fake oil lease papers, but keeps the incriminating papers he tricked Alexis into signing.

Blake arrives at the court house with media swarming all around him. Must be another slow news day in Denver. One reporter asks him if he plans on getting remarried if he's awarded custody of Danny...and when they notice Krystle arrive a few seconds later, they all run over to her and pepper her with overly personal questions that I highly doubt their reader/viewership could give a crap about:

"Do you plan to marry Blake if he gets custody of Danny...and if so, are you gonna be his new mommy?"
"Did your decision to testify for Steven derail your re-marriage plans with Blake?"

One of the male reporters physically blocks Krystle from approaching the court house, and Blake gets all in on that action and stomps over and shoves him out of her way. He then pulls back his arm as if he's really going to punch a guy who's half his age (LOL), but Andy rushes over just in time to stop the punch and pull the old goat away from the ridiculous spectacle. The reporter he almost punched says, "Phew! One thing is clear: he has a thing for the lady...whoever gets the baby" and Krystle overhears the remarks and stares pensively into space.

Inside the courtroom, Alexis snarks at Chris for evading her questions last night when she called to talk to Steven...and he continues to evade her questions and spacily says he hopes Steven makes an appearance soon.

When Steven fails to arrive, everyone in the courtroom quietly waits...and the judge looks annoyed and says he can only hear closing arguments when all parties are present. Chris sheepishly explains that his client has been unavoidably detained and requests a recess until after lunch, which the judge grants.

Back at the mansion, Kirby is packing up her things and tells Krystle she's eager to leave Denver 'cause her fairytale life has quickly become a steaming turd pile. She wants to move to Paris and make a life for her and her baby there - but Krystle reminds her that her life is in Denver, and that she owes it to Jeff to gauge how he feels about her carrying Adam's rape baby. Kirby mulls that over, then sheepishly nods.

Alexis flounces into Blake's office and smugly announces that she just got a telegram from "the government", stating it has no objection to the merger of their two companies. Blake wryly tells her he knows 'cause he got the same telegram. Alexis says that on Monday morning she's calling board meetings for both companies, then snarkishly tells Blake she hopes the Denver-Carrington board members actually show up this time. She then changes the subject and expresses her deep annoyance about not being permitted to visit Baby Blake at the mansion anymore, and complains that Fallon seems to have no interest in bringing the tot to her. Blake just shrugs disinterestedly and says it's up to Fallon. Alexis haughtily asks him if he's going to prevent her from seeing Danny, should the judge award him custody, then wails, "I won't stand for being kept away from my grandchildren!", threatens to take him to court, and storms out.

Steven finally arrives at the court house...with Claudia and Danny in tow. Chris tells the judge that delay was unavoidable, as Steven's plane was delayed due to weather. He then announces to the court that Steven and Claudia are legally married and holds up their certificate of marriage...and the camera pans around the courtroom to the various cast members and captures their dramatic reactions..

Alexis: happy
Sammy Jo: not so happy
Blake: dumbfounded
Krystle: pensive

Chris requests that the custody lawsuit be dropped on the grounds that Steven is no longer living an openly gay lifestyle - and Andy objects and remarks, "This is highly irregular." The judge agrees about the high irregularity - but overrules and asks Steven if he's truly serious about cohabitating with a woman. Steven's like, "Uh, sure..?" so the judge happily rules in his favor and summarily dismisses the custody suit.
Picture

"Now that the defendant is no longer an openly gay man, case dismissed!"

Picture

"I guess this means Steven and I are never going to happen."

Picture

"Maybe suing family members whenever they do things I don't agree with isn't the best course of action."

Picture

"I'm confused. Is Steven not gay anymore?"

Picture

"I would have had this expression on my face, regardless of the outcome."

Picture

"I'm just happy that Blake isn't in charge of both of my grandsons' visitation schedules."

Alexis hugs Claudia and congratulates her and Steven, and Krystle too wishes them well. Blake swallows the last scrap of pride he had left and tells the newlyweds he's glad it all worked out and that he's happy for them. Claudia graciously thanks him, while Steven shoots him the stink-eye and quietly stalks off. Krystle tells Blake she's not sorry the judge ruled against him, but is sorry for all that he lost with it...even though the situation was entirely of his own making. She then sashays out, leaving Blake to stand in the courtroom by himself, his face buried in his hands.

Fallon and Jeff are back in town and are in her La Mirage office, chatting about their investigation. Jeff says they should probably not mention what they learned in Montana to anyone except Blake...then gets a dreamy look on his face and says he'll always smile whenever he thinks of Montana. Fallon agrees that their doink was fanfuckingfantastic, and promises to keep mum about the "Michael Torrence" discovery. After Jeff leaves, Mark drops by - and, honestly, I totally forgot he was still on the show. He says he just wanted to come by and break the news that Steven and Claudia got married, and that the judge awarded them custody of Danny. Fallon's like, "Woo hoo!" and thanks him for the good news, so he looks all hopeful and says he'd like her to be less chilly to him. She's like, "Mmm...no" and tells him that he entered her life when she was particularly vulnerable - but that's changed now, and she really just wants him out of her life for good. She then tells him to skedaddle 'cause she has a phone call to make.
Picture

"Now that I've given you some good news about your brother, I was hoping you'd consider picking up where we left off."

Picture

"Actually, Mark, I kinda forgot you were still on the show."

Steven carries Claudia over the threshold into his apartment...where the two encounter Sammy Jo. Apparently, she insisted on dropping by for a visit with Danny - despite the stern objection of his nurse/nanny. Steven's like, "What the hell?" and Sammy Jo congratulates the happy couple and sarcastically praises them for pulling the wool over the judge's eyes. She caustically wishes Claudia good luck, then snarls, "One thing will never change: I gave birth to him. I'm still his mother."

Blake meets up with Krystle at the La Mirage and thanks her for all the gracious things she said to him in the courtroom. He moans about how tired he is of losing his personal battles...but that he's most afraid of losing her. He says, "I love you very much" and she (blech) rejoins with, "I love you too." He admits shutting her out of his life and world throughout their blechy marriage, then says he's decided he'd like her to share in his business and offers her a job as top PR person at Denver-Carrington. Krystle stares back at him blankly and reminds him she knows absolutely nothing about how to run a PR department, but Blake is just like, "Ach!" and says she knows a lot and has good instincts. After mulling it over for a few seconds, she admits that the idea of having a job she's in no way qualified for intrigues her; however, she has no desire to work for Alexis, which is essentially what they'll all be doing once the companies merge. Blake assures her she won't have anything to do with Alexis (which seems really unrealistic) and Krystle grins and says, "It's very tempting!"

Kirby is sitting outside, staring into space, when Jeff arrives home. He asks her if she's OK, and she says no, and that she has something unspeakable to tell him. She's forced to put a pin in that when Jeff gets a call from Fallon, insisting they need to spill the beans about Adam to Blake right now. Kirby gets irked about the phone intrusion and asks him what that was all about, and Jeff says he can't talk about it, but that they'll discuss whatever horrific news has been eating away at her when he returns.

Jeff and Fallon tell Blake they're pretty sure that Adam was the one who poisoned Jeff last season. Jeff says the poison had to be in the paint in his office, and recalls that Adam was the person who arranged for the needless decor redo...and adds that at the time, he had sarcastically called it "a welcoming gesture". Blake buzzes his secretary and asks her to summon Adam, but she informs him he's currently out of the building. Blake tells Jeff and Fallon he refuses to buy any of this until he hears a confession from Adam (like that'll happen) and an incredulous Fallon insists it's obvious he was the culprit. Blake stubbornly says that fake accusations cost his relationship with Steven [even though that was less about fake accusations than Blake's unrelenting homophobic dickishness], and doesn't want to lose another son the same way.

And that's where the writers decided to end this episode. Weird.

"Make the case that my son is an unrepentant fruit and therefore an unfit parent...but try not to degrade or humiliate him while you're doing it."

"The Hearing, Part 2"
Original airdate: 11/2/1983

Episode summary: Sammy Jo returns to Denver to testify against Steven in the custody lawsuit. Adam gets alarmed when he learns that Jeff and Fallon are in Montana, investigating a possible link between him and mercuric oxide.
Recap: Alexis returns to her penthouse and is aghast when she finds it completely trashed. She cries, "Oh my God!" then quickly gets back into the elevator and orders Harold the Concierge to call the police.

Steven drops by Krystle's room at the La Mirage with Danny in tow. He thanks her for standing up for him in court, then says he's confident that the judge will rule in his favor. Krystle tells him she's pensively concerned about what this trial is doing to the family and remarks on how unfair Alexis' testimony against Blake was...but Steven just kind of shrugs and says that since Blake is the douchebag who started the lawsuit, he kind of had it coming.

Over at Carrington manor, Adam and Blake are enjoying some father-son bonding time playing pool. Adam thanks Blake for not treating him like a total pariah anymore, and Blake smiles sanctimoniously and says he'd like them to have the kind of relationship he could never forge with the gay son he belittles, maligns, and publicly humiliates at every opportunity. Adam tells him that anything's possible and predicts that one day Steven will walk through his door again - but Blake says he's not so sure 'bout that, and that Steven has become Alexis' hostage and she's never going to let him go. He suddenly narrows his eyes, glares into space, and barks, "Never!" Um, OK, weirdo.

"Thanks for finally treating me like a family member and human being."

"I have an opening now that Steven's officially a lost cause."

Alexis drops by Adam's office at Denver-Carrington to "bury the hatchet", and Adam shoots her the stink-eye and wryly asks, "In whom?" She tells him she'd really really like it if he moved back into the penthouse on account of he doesn't belong in Blake's mansion...plus she's scared shitless to live by herself in the huge apartment after it got burglarized. Adam says he's not interested and declines her offer to move back into the penthouse or, for that matter, return to his job at ColbyCo. Alexis reminds him that Denver-Carrington will soon be merging with ColbyCo, which means he'll be working for her again soon enough anyway - but Adam just shrugs and says he'll cross that bridge when he comes to it.

As Danny's custody trial drags on, Fallon takes the stand and recalls Steven's homecoming from Singapore, and how tenderly he gazed down at his son and cooed, "My son, my son." She then talks about how she went to the nursery later that night to check on Baby Blake and found Steven standing over Danny's crib, watching over him in a tender, paternal manner. Awww.. Andy requests a recess and discreetly tells Blake he needs to brief the next witness. Blake warns Andy that he doesn't want Steven to be degraded or humiliated any more than is absolutely necessary, but Andy makes no promises and says, "We'll say what we have to, Blake." Alexis sashays over to Fallon to ask her if she can arrange a visiting schedule with Baby Blake, since Blake Senior banned her from the mansion after getting into a scrap with Kirby. Fallon looks less than thrilled by the prospect and mumbles, "I dunno, the baby has a routine..." then gets interrupted by the bailiff, who tells her she has a phone call from Billings, Montana. As Fallon rushes off to take the call, Alexis is like, "Billings..?" and stares after her concernedly.

Alexis makes a beeline to Adam's office to ask him if there's anything in his past he's neglected to tell her...then informs him that Fallon is prying into his life, as evidenced by the phone call she just received from Billings. Adam says it's probably related to the "senile" doctor who was involved in the poisoning case he litigated...then assures his mother she needn't worry, 'cause he's threatened the doctor into submission and looks like he's going to follow his stern orders to keep his mouth shut. Alexis says she hopes Fallon doesn't uncover any unpleasant surprises, then bitchily warns her son not to count on her maternal loyalties after last season's tedious Jeff/toxic paint storyline.

Fallon informs Jeff about her plans to travel to Montana to meet with an ex-foreman of a chemical plant as part of her impromptu investigation regarding a possible link between the mercuric oxide that was produced in his plant and Adam. She asks Jeff to come along, and after mulling it over for a few seconds, he's like, "Sure, what the hell?"

Andy dramatically calls his next witness to the stand: Sammy Jo Dean Carrington. Yay! Sammy Jo's back in Denver! The blonde skanklet breezes into the courtroom donning a red dress and black hat, and pauses to smugly smirk as she glances around the room. When she takes the stand, she testifies that Blake did not try to purchase her son (as Alexis had claimed), but rather tried to persuade her to raise the baby herself. She openly admits she has zero interest in caring for an infant 'cause she'd much rather pursue a modelling career...and this prompts Alexis to roll her eyes derisively. Andy asks Sammy Jo if she's happy about her decision to give Steven full custody of Danny, and she poutishly contorts her lips and says, "I am not." She claims that Steven violated their "non homo" agreement when he decided to shack up with his gay lover...and when Chris tries to object to their relationship being mischaracterized, Steven orders him to shut it. Andy then asks Sammy Jo about the interaction between Steven and the sleazy photographer, Ace, she worked with while languishing in Hollywood...and Sammy Jo puts her somber face on and testifies that when she left the room, Steven made a gay play for Ace. While Chris is asleep at the switch and neglects to object to that statement as heresay, Steven leaps up and shrieks, "Lying tramp!" and gets admonished by the judge. Andy then asks Sammy Jo about the time Steven paid her a visit in New York shortly after the role was recast, and Sammy Jo contorts her face in an expression of disgust and says he took her to a gay restaurant - a favourite of his and Ted Dinard's - and started to ogle a man right in front of her! She then claims that he sent her home in a taxi so he could stay and "do his own thing". Her lies are too much for Steven to bear, and he jumps to his feet and yells, "Liar! You're lying!" An irked Blake warns Andy he wasn't supposed to go this far, so Andy explains, "You can't have it both ways"...which, true enough. When Chris gets up to cross examine, he asks Sammy Jo why she's lying to the court, then suggests she's trying to exact revenge against Steven. She denies it, then testifies that she divorced Steven because she wanted a hetero husband who loves her and who she could love back...then pulls out a tissue and starts fake crying. Chris looks unmoved and calls her on the fact that there are no actual tears coming out of her eyes.
Picture

"As my baby's negligent mother, I disapprove of Steven shacking up with his gay lover/lawyer."

"For the umpteenth time, we're platonic roommates!"

Adam arrives at the mansion and hears "Moonlight Sonata" being played from one of the sitting rooms. (Incidentally, I wonder whatever happened to the music room from the pilot episode that was adjacent to the ballroom and housed all the instruments; we never see that room anymore.) Adam finds Kirby playing the piano and tells her it's a shame she's not outside, enjoying the lovely day. She snarks at him to mind his own business, so he assures her she has no reason to be afraid [of being sexually assaulted by him again]. A maid suddenly appears in the doorway to tell Kirby that Jeff's on the phone for her...and during the call, Jeff tells her that he and Fallon have to stay in Billings overnight 'cause they're in the process of investigating a local chemical company. Adam overhears her reveal Jeff's and Fallon's whereabouts and concernedly stares into space.

When it's Steven's turn to take the stand, he testifies that, contrary to his ex-wife's claim, he got so angry at Ace for photographing Sammy Jo nearly nude that he physically threw him out of the studio. Um, sorry - but I'm going to have to object and call bullshit on that one 'cause all Steven did was argue with Ace...and if it pleases the court, I'd like to submit Exhibit A, from my recap of The Gun:
The photographer, whose name is Ace (yes, really), takes a few shots of Sammy Jo's lithe body, then mounts her, and the two start making out. He grunts, "I want you out of that bikini" and Sammy Jo's like, "Tee hee, OK" and is in the process of getting naked when Steven suddenly bursts into the room. He demands to know what's going on, then gets into a shouting match with Ace. Sammy Jo intervenes and tells Ace she'd like a few minutes alone with her husband, and he obliges and leaves the room.
So there, continuity-challenged writers.

As for the New York visit, Steven explains that he tried to convince Sammy Jo to return with him to Denver...and that she stormed out of the restaurant - not because he was ogling a man, but because he made it clear to her that they'd have to live within their means on his measly salary.  Chris switches gears and asks him to explain why he's a good father, so Steven says that Danny is the only reason he returned to Denver...and from the moment he first saw the tot, loving and nurturing him has become the focal point of his life. When Andy gets up to cross-examine, he gruffly reminds the court about the one thing that has been missing from the case thus far: Steven's sexual preference. He recaps Steven's ill-fated relationship with Ted Dinard, breezing over the fact that Ted was manslaughtered to death by his client, and says that Steven is living with his gay lawyer. Andy asks Steven to confirm that he and Chris are, in fact, gay lovers...but Steven just angrily scrunches his face and snaps, "That's my business" and refuses to elaborate. The judge orders him to respond, but Steven stubbornly remains mute and says he has every right to live his life any way he chooses. The judge throws in the towel and says he'll be rendering a decision after today's "illuminating testimony". Uh oh...that can't be good for Steven. At the defence table, Chris tells Steven he really screwed the pooch by not clarifying that their relationship is platonic, then asks him why he stayed mute...but Steven just stares into space and refuses to respond.

"I should be free to live my life as a straight gay man."

"You keep believing that."

That evening, Steven, Chris, and Claudia are having dinner in the apartment. Chris tells Steven he'd hate to see him lose his son because of a principle, so Steven explains that he needs to win custody of Danny by sticking to his principles, and adds, "Otherwise, what kind of man am I?" (I dunno...a joyless, whiny curmudgeon who can't seem to decide, for once and for all, which team he wants to play for?) Chris is like, "Whatever" and heads to his room to work some more on the case. Claudia and Steven canoodle for awhile, and Steven invites her to stay the night, then moans, "God I need you." Claudia says she'd love to stay over, but has an important errand to run...and then hastily exits the apartment.

Jeff and Fallon are at a hotel bar in Billings, discussing how to track down the judge that presided over Adam's mercuric oxide case. Jeff gazes at her with admiration and tells her how impressed he is that she's no longer the vapid tart she was when he first married her. She blushes and asks him if Kirby is upset about them spending the night in Montana, but he just shrugs and says, "I have no idea" and complains about his wife's alarmingly squirrelly behavior. In the next scene, Jeff walks Fallon to her hotel room and admits that part of him will never stop loving her, then leans in for a smooch and coos, "You're the first girl I've ever loved." He asks her what she's thinking, and she gazes at him wantonly while declaring, "I want you right now." He reminds her how far away the rest of the world is from them right now, then turns off the lights and steers her toward the bed. Mmm hmm..

Blake drops by the La Mirage to try to convince Krystle that he had no idea Sammy Jo would lie on the stand about Steven...even though any halfwit would have figured it to be a foregone conclusion. He tells her he merely wanted to prove that Alexis' testimony about him trying to purchase Danny was a lie, and Krystle mulls that over and says she believes him. Blake then sheepishly says she was right, and admits that this court case has done nothing but bring heartache to everyone involved...and even if he won, it would be a hollow victory. No shit, douchenozzle.

Claudia drops by Sammy Jo's room at the La Mirage and orders her to retract all the lies she told on the stand. Sammy Jo denies lying, then taunts Claudia by pointing out that even though she was the first woman to bed Steven, she wasn't good enough to land him. She then mocks her for being really loony if she expects her to retract her testimony, and calls Steven a "gutless wonder" for sending her to fight his battles. For some reason, that last thing enrages Claudia, and she smacks Sammy Jo hard across the face...and Sammy Jo glares at her and smacks her back, and then Claudia gives her a re-smack. Fortunately they leave it there, and a triumphant looking Claudia struts out of the room.

"I've proven myself to be a better gold digger than you could ever be!"

"How dare you! Take that!"

Claudia returns to Steven's apartment in the middle of the night carrying a suitcase. When Steven sleepily answers the door, she tells him he needs to trust and believe in her...then says she can't allow him to lose Danny. She chirps, "I've got the answer!" and Steven's all, "Wha-a?" and just stares back at her mutely.

Sammy Jo stays on top of current events

"The Hearing, Part 1"
Original airdate: 10/26/1983

Episode summary: Blake loses his cool while testifying at Danny's custody hearing, and Sammy Jo offers to return to Denver and testify against Steven. Kirby tries to strangle Alexis as payback for Joseph's suicide, and is later dismayed to learn that Adam has moved into the mansion.
Recap: Blake and Andy enter the Denver-Carrington building and are immediately besieged by reporters asking about the upcoming custody hearing. Must be a slow news day in Denver. Blake growls, "I'm going to get my grandson back home where he belongs" and then he and Andy disappear into the elevator. Andy warns him that Chris Deegan is a good lawyer and that getting custody of Danny is not a sure thing...plus, his conviction for voluntarily manslaughtering Ted Dinard back in Season 1 won't exactly make him look like ideal parenting material. Blake's all, "Wha-a?" and says that that manslaughter is in the past, and what they're fighting for is Danny's future. He scrunches his face in irritation and sternly pronounces, "I want Danny out of that environment."

Sammy Jo is in a runway dressing room with other bikini clad women, reading The National Enquirer. She looks transfixed by the front page headline - Denver Oil Tycoon sues Gay Son for Baby’s Custody! - then frowns disapprovingly and mutters, "This wasn't part of my deal with Steven."

Krystle drops by Blake's office to ask him how he can be such a douchewad to his own son while so caring toward a nutter like Claudia Blaisdel. Blake avoids answering and declares himself the head of the Carrington family - and as such, he has a responsibility to ensure that every Carrington conducts his or her life in a decent, non-homosexual fashion. He insists he needs to take action against Steven for Danny's sake. Krystle reminds him that he's been trying to lure her back into his clutches - then threatens to stay away if he goes ahead with the custody lawsuit. Blake says he loves her and definitely wants her back, but he refuses to drop the lawsuit as a condition of her love.

Claudia, who now works as Fallon's assistant at the La Mirage, is chatting with Fallon about the floor plans regarding an upcoming event, blah blah...and Steven drops by Fallon's office and is delighted to see Claudia readjusting so well after her release from the funny farm. When Claudia rushes off to finish a task, Fallon remarks to Steven how godawful tomorrow's hearing is going to be - but Steven just shrugs and says he feels confident 'cause he has her, Alexis, and Krystle all testifying on his behalf. He predicts that Blake is going to learn a painful lesson, namely that he can't continually get away with shoving his prejudice down other peoples' throats.

Andy advises Krystle to not testify on Steven's behalf 'cause he'll have to discredit her testimony...and by discredit, he means he'll bring up her shortlived marriage to Mark and the gold digging antics of her trampy niece. I'm don't really see how that's a winning strategy. Krystle angrily says she'll take her chances in court and storms off.

Alexis arrives at Carrington manor with a ginormous stuffed giraffe for Baby Blake. She finds Kirby in the nursery, cooing at the baby, and coolly says hello...and expresses her condolences about her father's suicide. Kirby admonishes her for not attending his memorial service, so Alexis explains that Blake banned her from attending. Kirby's like, "Yeah whatever" and accuses her of driving Papá to suicide by scaring the bejeezus out of him about something, then advances on Alexis and demands the truth. Alexis contorts her face in fake confusion and says she rarely ever spoke to Joseph...and this seems to set Kirby off. Blake, meanwhile, arrives home and hears yelling coming from the nursery. He dashes upstairs and finds Kirby with her hands around Alexis' throat, snaps, "What the devil?!" and separates the two women. Alexis rubs her neck and informs him that Kirby suddenly went cuckoo and tried to strangle her for no reason, but Blake just glares at her as he places a comforting arm around Kirby. After a few seconds, he barks at Alexis to follow him outside so they can have a private chat.
Picture

"Don't kill the messenger, but your father was a pathetic, lonely dullard who had nothing better to do than maintain a scrapbook of my glamorous sexcapades."

Picture

"I said don't kill the messenger!"

Blake ushers Alexis onto a nearby terrace, where she continues to wail about Kirby's unprovoked attack. Blake says he highly doubts it was unprovoked, then forbids her to step foot on his estate ever again. From now on she'll have to make arrangements with Fallon if she wants to spend time with Baby Blake. Alexis shoots back that he's willfully destroying his own son, so then Blake grabs her by the arms and shoves her away from him. Alexis responds by bellowing, "Take your hands off me, Blake! I won't be touched by trash, and that's what you still are and always will be!"

Adam drops by to announce to Blake that he's leaving Denver for good...and when Blake puts his sad face on, Adam says he thought he'd be relieved to see the last of him. Blake says he's genuinely sorry to see him go, them apologizes for behaving like such a dinkwhistle when he first arrived in town. He urges Adam to reconsider his plans so they can give their father-son relationship another chance, now that he's completely alienated his other son. "Please!" he begs, and Adam stares contemplatively into space.

Steven and Claudia return to Steven's (badly decorated) apartment with groceries, and Steven is surprised and irked to find social worker Helen Pomeroy snooping around his living room. He accuses the uppity woman of invading his space and bitchily asks her if she's uncovered any dark, hidden secrets. She reminds him that she was appointed by the court to assess his home situation, but Steven continues to act like the dumb moron he is and is railing at her when Chris arrives home. Mrs. Pomeroy gets insulted and announces she's leaving...and once she's out of earshot, Chris admonishes Steven for making such a horse's ass of himself in front of the court appointed social worker. Steven whines that he doesn't like being spied on, so Chris reminds him that he's supposed to be doing everything possible to fight for his son, not fight with the social worker...or Blake. And speaking of Blake, he urges Steven to make clear to his homophobic father that the two of them are roommates - not gay lovers. Steven stubbornly refuses and says he's not lifting a damn finger to make anything more palatable for Blake.
Picture

"Oh, hello. The court appointed me to make this unannounced home visit."

Picture

"That's nice. Now get the hell out of my apartment."

Jeff tells Fallon he's concerned about Kirby's increasing squirrelliness and wishes she would open up about her father's death and whatever else is bugging her. Fallon's like, "That's a real shame" then brings up the chemical poisoning case that Adam handled in Montana all those years ago. Jeff says he thinks she's overreaching and doesn't believe Adam had anything to do with poisoning him...and Fallon agrees that maybe she should throw in the towel, particularly since Adam is leaving Denver. Uh, about that..

Adam finds Kirby reading by the lily pond, and coos about how beautiful she looks and remarks that her baby is sure to be beautiful too. Kirby cringes and barks at him to get the hell away from her just as Jeff appears. He storms over and demands to know what Adam's doing, and Adam smugly informs him that they're all roommates now 'cause he just moved into Carrington manor. Jeff and Kirby are all, "Wha-a?!" as the camera pans from Kirby's face to Jeff's face, then back again to Adam's face, and then around again. We get it, camera crew. They're shocked.

Kirby is having another Adam nightmare/'80s rape fantasy: Adam bursts into her bedroom wearing just a robe while she's scantily clad in a silk teddy. He strips off his robe while leering at her, and reminds her that Jeff's away then cackles, "And when the cat's away, the mice should play." He picks her up, and roughly deposits her on the bed as she yells, "Nooo! Please!" Her screams wake Jeff, and he pokes her awake and begs her to talk about what's been troubling her...but she clams up and says she's just wigged out about her father's suicide and whether or not her baby will come out a mutant. Jeff assures her they're going to have a great future together (not), so then she starts nattering about how Steven has to fight Blake in order to retain custody of his own child. Yep, that is pretty fucked up. Jeff assures her that no one will ever take away their child, and she tearfully cuddles with him.

The Carringtons arrive at the court house, and they get mobbed by a gaggle of eager reporters who somehow have nothing more newsworthy to cover. Claudia gives Steven a good luck kiss and scampers off...while, across the lobby, a reporter asks Blake if he thinks the court will grant custody to a gay man who has a gay roommate. Blake snaps, "No I don't!" while glaring over at Steven.

Krystle arrives in the courtroom, and she and Blake stare over at each other for several uncomfortable seconds. She wishes him good luck (though not really), then turns toward Steven and gives him a warm hello hug. As the hearing gets underway, the judge recaps that Blake is seeking custody of his grandson because his gay son has a gay roommate and is therefore unfit to raise his child. Andy concurs and calls Helen Pomeroy to the stand, who testifies that after snooping around Steven's apartment on various occasions, she has concluded that Danny is being well cared for. Andy asks her about the "potential impact of his emotional environment", so she says that in her professional opinion, a male child raised by two gay men is pretty much guaranteed to become gay himself. LOL. Chris interjects and says that no studies exist to support that claim and accuses Mrs. Pomeroy of making shit up - but the judge overrules him and says he'll allow this uppity woman's baseless opinions to be part of the official transcript. Andy then asks her what kind of parent she thinks Steven is, and she says he's emotional and antagonistic, then snidely adds, "These people all seem to be that way." Chris objects to her openly bitchy and biased statement, but once again the judge overrules and nonsensically says they're all just trying to determine what's best for little Danny. Sounds like a successful appeal in the making, should his ruling go badly for Steven.
Picture

"Steven's like every other gay man out there: emotional and antagonistic."

Picture

"I'll grant you that. He has inherited some of his father's most douchey qualities."

Sammy Jo is desperately trying to get in touch with Blake. She snarkily tells his secretary to have him call her the minute he's back from court.

Blake takes the stand and insists that his quest for the custody of Danny has absolutely nothing at all to do with any vendetta. He explains that he and Krystle were about to adopt the little gaffer when they learned that Steven was alive and well in Singapore after getting his original face blown off. He makes it clear that he disapproves of Steven raising the baby as a single parent, and that he was royally pissed off when Steven took Danny and moved out of the mansion...and then invited a fellow gay to live with them in the new apartment. He calls the arrangement "uncommon and unhealthy" and worries that his innocent grandchild might accidentally wander into his father's bedroom and find him butting up against another man. Chris interjects and argues that all parents have to exercise discretion with their children, and for once the judge agrees with Chris' plea for common sense in his kangaroo court. Blake natters about how he places his love of family ahead of everything [except the part of him that really hates gay people] and that Danny deserves better than growing up with two non-hetero men.

When it's Chris' turn to cross-examine Blake, he asks him if he has any gay friends or employees...and Blake scrunches his wrinkly face and says, "Not that I'm aware of." Chris asks him what he'd do if he were aware of it, and Blake says he'd be totes fine with it as long as they never ever ever acknowledge their gayness while in his presence. Chris brings up the killing of Ted Dinard and tries to goad Blake into losing his temper...and naturally Blake takes the bait and snarks that Ted needed killin' for putting his sissy hands on his son. He then gets indignant about having to re-explain his manslaughter conviction and barks, "I won't allow myself to be victimized!" The judge yells at him to shut up and control himself, and the courtroom observers shift around and exchange holy shit! glances. After Chris calls a recess, Andy discreetly warns Blake that if he continues to lose his cool, he could lose this case.
Picture

"Do you always want to commit voluntary manslaughter against your son's gay lovers?"

Picture

"Nah. The writers fished that lake dry with the Ted Dinard storyline in Season 1."

Krystle testifies that, based on her observations, Steven is an excellent father. She tells the court the sad tale about how she was treated as an outsider when she first joined the Carrington clan - and that Steven was the only person who didn't behave totally cunty towards her. She confirms that she and Blake had had plans to adopt Danny when Steven resurfaced...and that while it was difficult giving up the opportunity to raise him, she knew it would be best for the tot to grow up with his father's warmth and tenderness. After Chris wraps up his questioning, Andy stands up to begin his cross examination, but Blake orders him to sit his ass back down and not alienate his future re-wife.

Alexis testifies that Steven is gentle, bright, sensitive to others, and that he's strong without being a belligerent douchetard like his father. She characterizes Blake as unsuitable and unfit to raise any child, much less his grandson, and that he has a tendency to treat his children like possessions. She accuses Blake of trying to purchase Danny from Sammy Jo, and that he also barred her from seeing her own children for sixteen years and did a shit job raising them. An enraged Blake nonsensically blurts out, "I've been trying to turn Steven into a man!" and once again the judge orders him to shut his pie hole. Alexis smiles gleefully, pleased she was able to rattle him.

Alexis is primping in the public bathroom when Krystle enters and admonishes her for falsely accusing Blake of buying Danny when she knows full well that that's not what really happened. Alexis shoots her a cheeky grin, then chides her for not taking her up on her offer to leave town in exchange for a million dollars. She declares that Blake will soon be working for her, which means he'll be even more of a cranky douchenozzle to deal with than he normally is.

When the hearing adjourns for the day, Blake asks Steven if he could speak with him privately, but Steven's like, "Why? You hate me!" and stalks off...which was such a refreshing change from having to watch another Blake-Steven fight in the mansion's study.

Mark runs into Krystle when she returns to the La Mirage and offers to buy her a drink, but she tells him she feels like being alone, then marvels about how Blake wouldn't permit his lawyer to cross examine her.

Sammy Jo has finally gotten Blake on the phone. She tells him that if he puts her on the stand to testify, he'll for sure get custody of Danny. Well...not really, but I'm definitely looking forward to Sammy Jo's return!

"Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife-beard?"

"The Note"
Original airdate: 10/19/1983

Episode summary: Kirby mourns the loss of her father and reveals to Krystle that Adam is the father of her baby. Claudia is released from the funny farm and hits the sack with Steven. Blake threatens to file for custody of Danny.
Recap: Kirby is so distressed by the news of her father's suicide that she races out of the mansion and into the backyard. Jeff rushes out after her, then stands over her as she kneels beside the lily pond, weeping about how she didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Papá or tell him how much she loves him. "Oh Papá!" she cries, then collapses into Jeff's arms. LOL.

Blake and Detective Merrill arrive at Alexis' penthouse to inform her that Joseph offed himself, and that he left a note confessing to being the person who set the cabin fire. In the note he explained that he set the fire in an effort to stop "the evil woman from ruining another life" and prays that his death will satisfy her need for vengeance. Detective Merrill asks Alexis if she has any idea what that means, and she looks fake befuddled and says she can't imagine what was going on in the deranged majordomo's mind. Detective Merrill says he'll do his best to follow through on the case, then heads out. Once he's safely out of earshot, Alexis pours herself a glass of champagne and chuckles to Blake about what a fool Joseph was to believe that she'd ever tell Kirby about her crazed, slutty mother. She only made the threat to put him in his place - not provoke him into wanting to burn her alive. Blake argues that, aside from being a murder-seeking arsonist, Joseph was a decent, moral man...and vows to lie to Kirby so she that never finds out what a damaged wretch her mother was. Alexis laughs at his sanctimoniousness and says that Joseph was nothing more than a paid house spy who enjoyed badmouthing her. She then makes a weird accusation about Blake and Joseph's nutty wife having a little somethin' somethin' going on, and Blake glares at her and warns, "If you tell Kirby one thing about her mother, I'll finish what Joseph tried to do!" then storms toward the elevator, leaving Alexis staring after him worriedly.

Over at Carrington manor, Steven is chatting with Fallon and Krystle about Joseph's shocking self-inflicted mercy killing. Fallon says she has no doubt that Alexis drove him to suicide because of the crappy way she always treated him, and Steven gets irked at the remark and snaps, "Can't you ever give her the benefit of the doubt?" Krystle chides them in her pensively gentle way for fighting with each other, so Steven switches gears and announces that Claudia is finally being released from the funny farm tomorrow. He wonders aloud if he should go pick her up...and Fallon reminds him he promised, and that it would be shitty to just not show up. Well duh. Blake arrives home and gets a warm hug from Fallon and a stiff handshake from Steven, who offers his condolences for the tragic loss of his ass-kissing majordomo. He then says he should get home to Danny and beats a hasty retreat. Blake shakes his head and mutters that he can't seem to make things right with Steven and that it feels as though they live in two different worlds. He then turns his attention to Krystle and thanks her for dropping by the mansion during this sad time, and she smiles serenely and says she knows how much the uppity manservant meant to the family. Jeff enters the room to inform Blake that Kirby has lots of questions about her father's suicide. Blake mutters that there's lots of stuff he won't be able to answer, then goes upstairs to do his best to comfort the grief-stricken girl. After he exits the room, Fallon joins Krystle on the couch and gabbles about how she, Steven, and Kirby all grew up in the mansion together...and that Joseph was always stiffly looming nearby, keeping an eye on his little girl. She then laments how desperate Joseph must have been to off himself and leave his precious daughter without parents.

Blake sits by Kirby's bedside and tells her how sorry he is about her father's death. A tearful Kirby asks him why her Papá would want to burn Alexis alive, then whimpers, "What did she do to him?" Blake says it was probably more about what Alexis was planning to do to him (as in himself) - referring to her plan to take over Denver-Carrington via the merger. Blake suggests that Joseph's love and suck-up-itude for him was so boundless that he figured the only way to save his master's company from Alexis' evil clutches was to lock her inside a burning cabin...but when his grisly murder attempt got thwarted by Mark Jennings, he became so dismayed he put a bullet in his chest. Kirby mulls over Blake's completely illogical theory, decides she can definitely buy it, and bobs her head in satisfaction...while Jeff furrows his caterpillar brows and looks skeptical. Blake then tells Kirby he doesn't want her and Jeff to move out of the mansion, like ever, and says they'll always be a part of the Carrington family. He then gives her a fatherly kiss on the forehead and tiptoes out of the room.

"I guess I can buy that."

Steven and Chris are passing the evening playing a board game in their apartment. Chris rebukes Steven for walking out on his father earlier, even though none of this is any of his business, and Steven snaps that after he offered his condolences, there wasn't a reason to hang around. Chris urges Steven to assure his homophobic father that their roommate situation is platonic, then says he got an unpleasant phone call from Sammy Jo the other day. Apparently, she got all bitchy when she learned that the father of her spawn is living with a gay man. Steven says he's not worried 'bout that and reminds Chris that he and Sammy Jo are divorced and that he has legal custody of their son. As for Blake's homophobia and judgey-ness, Steven insists he no longer cares about seeking the old goat's approval. Chris implores him to give Blake one more chance (shut up, Chris), and Steven stares contemplatively into space as he mulls over that ill-advised idea.

Blake informs Krystle that the charges against Mark have been dropped. He apologizes for being so adamant about blaming the gigolo for setting the fire, and admits he let his feelings of resentment cloud his judgement. Krystle applauds his honesty and gives him another nauseating serene smile, and he excuses himself to go break the news of Joseph's suicide to the rest of the staff.

Mark drops by Krystle's suite at the La Mirage to give her two pieces of good news: 1) Fallon refused to accept his resignation so he's going to stay on as head tennis instructor, and 2) the police told him he's a free man. Krystle gives him a hug and tells him she's happy for him, then says they can talk more about it in the morning. She tries to give him the bum's rush out the door - but Mark ignores the hint and steers her over to the couch, where he overthanks her for always believing in him. He touches her face and calls her "warm, tender, and loving" then describes Blake as a douchebaggy, cynical manipulator...and says he's glad she finally wised up and dumped his ass. Krystle tells him that Blake admitted he had been wrong about him and thinks it was big of him to acknowledge his error in judgement...then says it's getting late and that he really really needs to leave now.

Blake is eulogizing Joseph to a roomful of tearful servants, blathering about how the suicidal arsonist was a good friend who had principles and high standards of excellence. Blake says he'll miss his bitchy, uptight manservant dearly and coos, "Sleep well, dear friend."

Steven arrives at the funny farm to pick up Claudia, who's now sporting ultra short poofy bangs. She tells him she's sooo ready to leave the funny farm, but is grateful to the staff for helping her sort out her various mental incapacities. She's excited to go out into the real world again and exclaims how everything will be "beautiful and great".

Steven ferries Claudia over to the La Mirage -  since, in the Dynasty universe, it's the only hotel in Denver. They check into her room, where a lovely bouquet of yellow roses (from Fallon) is waiting. Steven tells her it's nice to have her among the sane again, then takes one of the roses from the bouquet, hands it to her, and says, "Welcome to your future, Claudia." She tells him she's happy to be with him in the present - but then he gets a faraway look and says he was just thinking about the past, specifically that episode in Season 1 where they doinked in the cabin. Claudia gets a dreamy look on her face and recalls that she had said, "Make this night last forever", then touches his face while gazing at him longingly...and the two start making out on the bed. He tells her he hasn't touched a woman since Sammy Jo, and Claudia replies, "And I haven't touched a man who mattered since you" and the two start going at it in earnest. OK...so Steven is, uh, straight now?

"It's getting hard to keep track, but I think in this episode I'm a straight gay man."

"Quick! Let's hit the sack before the writers change their mind."

Alexis arrives at La Mirage in her fancy car. She tells her driver she thinks they were being followed and orders him to keep an eye out for any psycho stalkers. She then sashays over to the tennis court, where Mark is wrapping up a tennis lesson, and asks him if they could have a chat. She admits it was stupid to go to the cabin unprotected when five viable suspects were brazenly threatening her life during the Season 3 finale. She laments being a target for jealous and angry men, but Mark's just like, "Sucks to be you" and starts to walk off. Alexis rushes after him and tells him he's wasting his life being a tennis instructor, then offers him a job as her bodyguard. He sneers and says he wouldn't lift a finger to save her life a second time, then stalks off. A few seconds later, Alexis runs into Fallon and asks her when and where Joseph's funeral service will be held. Fallon tells her that Blake has ordered everyone to not tell her any of the details of the event 'cause she's not welcome to attend.

Steven and Claudia are lounging in bed, post coitus. She asks him why he didn't tell her that he and Blake are feuding, and he says he didn't want to ruin her homecoming after she worked so hard at the funny farm to get better. Plus, it should simply be assumed that Blake and Steven are never not feuding over Steven's gay lifestyle...except in this episode, when he suddenly seems to be into women. She lectures him about how Danny needs a grandfather, then starts nattering about the grandmotherly love Lindsay received from Matthew's mother - despite the cunty way she treated Claudia. She insists that the love of a grandparent is very important to a child and urges Steven to make up with Blake so that Danny can know Blake's douchebaggy brand of love. The two cuddle as Steven mulls over her suggestion.

The cast (minus Alexis) arrives for Joseph's funeral. As Blake escorts Kirby inside, Jeff ambles over to Krystle and tells her how worried he is about his wife. She won't talk about her father, refuses to eat, and stays locked away in her room all day. He asks Krystle to talk to her and see if she can figure out whassup.

In the next scene, Krystle is asking Kirby why she's been acting so squirrelly lately, and Kirby wails, "God is punishing me!" then confesses that she deliberately caused the horseback riding accident. She tears up and says she has to let out her horrific secret before she implodes, and reveals to Krystle that she's pregnant with Adam's baby - and that it's the result of a rape he committed last season. Krystle gasps in pensive shock and asks her if Adam knows...and Kirby starts weeping and says she never wants the sick rapist to know. Krystle, who seems oddly content to gloss over the 'I was raped' part of Kirby's story, advises her to tell Jeff he's not her baby daddy, since he'll probably learn the truth eventually. She asks, "Can you live with this?" and Kirby tearfully shakes her head.

Andy advises Blake not to file for custody of Danny 'cause of how dickish it would be for a grandfather to challenge the right of his perfectly capable son to raise his own child. Blake snarls, "I'm challenging my gay son's right to raise his son in an unwholesome, unnatural environment." Andy says this is uncharted territory and that custody cases between parents and grandparents generally degenerate into bitterness. He warns Blake not to jump into this thing - but Blake argues that he's not "jumping into" anything and insists he's being pushed by the anti-gay forces within himself. Andy puts his hand on Blake's shoulder and urges him to reach out to his son before he makes a move, and Blake stares contemplatively into space as he mulls over that possibility.

"You've met me, right?"

Blake enters the restaurant in La Mirage and sees Krystle eating breakfast with Claudia. He goes over to say hey - and Claudia thanks him for offering her a job at Denver-Carrington, but politely declines and says she wants to go in a different direction. She gets up and heads off, and Krystle gives Blake another of her nauseatingly serene smiles and says it was soooo nice of him to offer Claudia a job. Blake nods at his generousness and says it took losing a friend like Joseph to realize that "none of us is an island". He recalls that there once was a time he took pride in not needing anyone, but it was a "false pride", and he now knows it was wrong to shut her out. He then spells out where this conversation is leading: he wants her to become his wife again (don't do it!!) and move back into the mansion. Krystle pensively nods and promises to think about it.

Adam drops by Fallon's office and informs her that he's moving back to Billings. Hurray! If only. Fallon looks pleased to hear that, mostly 'cause he's inspired icky feelings of mistrust ever since stepping foot in Denver...plus, he brazenly lied about not knowing Dr. Edwards and anything about The Mysterious Case of the Mercuric Oxide he had been involved with while practicing law in Billings. Adam dismissively calls her "the suspicious daughter of a suspicious mother" and needlessly gripes about how Alexis suspected him of torching the cabin. After he stomps out, Fallon immediately gets on the phone to start digging around, searching for companies in Montana that manufacture mercuric oxide.

Krystle stops by Steven's apartment to bring a present for Danny - and she's all, "Ack!" when Alexis answers the door. She offers to come by another time, but Alexis invites her in so she can order her to never to darken her son's doorway again. She accuses her of alienating Steven and Fallon from her - but Krystle chuckles and says she doesn't need anyone's help alienating herself from her children. She then reminds Alexis that her special friendship with Steven goes back as far as Season 1, and says that Steven won't tolerate her dictating who his friends should be. At that moment, Steven arrives home and asks whaddup with all the arguing, and Alexis assures him they were just talking...albeit in a loud, hostile manner. The phone then rings, and it's Blake, inviting Steven over to the mansion for another father-son blowout in the study.

"Let's take this argument outside - preferably adjacent to a muddy pond."

Steven arrives at the mansion and enters the study, where things always seem to go very very badly for these two. Blake tells Steven he wants him and Danny to move back into the mansion...and that Chris can live in the apartment alone, or go pee up a rope for all he cares. Steven looks dismayed and glumly states, "So this is really about Chris." Blake says that the mansion would be a wonderful home for Danny, then happily remarks, "Andy was right about reaching out." Steven asks what his lawyer has to do with any of this, then jokingly asks if he plans on taking him to court in order to force him to move back into the mansion. Blake's like, "Well, d'yuh" and Steven moans, "Oh God.." Blake admits he was about to sue him for custody of Danny, but Steven refuses to move back in and tells his father he can't make him. Blake says he doesn't give a rat's ass where he lives and barks, "Just give me Danny" so that Krystle (assuming she's dumb enough to move back in) can raise the tot the way a tot should be raised. Steven tells him he's nuts if he thinks this will bring Krystle back, and Blake ignores that jab and promises to drop any legal action if he cooperates with his edict. Steven shakes his head in disgust and heads toward the door, and Blake growls, "I'm not through with you!" Steven snaps back, "I'm through with you!" and the two start shoving each other like frail kittens. Blake growls, "This isn't the end of it, Steven! I'll see you in court. I'm going to get my grandson!" and Steven glares at him...but also starts to look worried.

Joseph Anders, Seasons 1-4
RIP

"The Bungalow"
Original airdate: 10/5/1983

Episode summary: Kirby continues to wig out about carrying Adam's spawn after not suffering a miscarriage. A mystery stalker tries to smother Alexis with a pillow during her hospital stay. Joseph commits suicide after making an unintelligible phone call to Blake.
Recap: The two policemen lead Mark toward the elevators, and Krystle runs after them and insists they've arrested the wrong man. The detective tells her that Mark had both motive and opportunity to start the cabin fire, and she yells, "Impossible!" Mark urges her to stay out of it and tells her the police are just doing their job. After they disappear in the elevator, Blake approaches Krystle and hands her her release papers. She asks him what he told the police about Mark, so he admits recounting to them everything he knows about the man: a tennis pro gigolo who has an eye for rich ladies. He tells Krystle that the police have a lot of evidence against him, but she reminds him that he saved her life and she therefore cares what happens to him. She insists that Mark isn't a murderer, but also concedes that she has no idea who set the fire.

Over at Carrington manor, Tony the stable hand - who, for some reason, is shirtless while riding his horse - asks Fallon how Kirby's doing after her fall. Fallon's all, "Wuh?" so he explains that Kirby insisted on riding Sampson, the buckiest horse in the stable...and, as anyone could predict, she took a tumble and got injured. Fallon tells Tony she'll check on Kirby, then orders him to put a damn shirt on.

Kirby is laying on her bed, still dressed in her riding clothes when Fallon enters the room and asks her if she's OK. She offers to call a doctor, but Kirby refuses and snarks, "Leave me alone!" Fallon tells her she once took a risk when she was pregnant with Baby Blake...and by a risk, she means she nearly aborted the little gaffer. Kirby looks unmoved and orders her again to leave her alone.

Alexis is in her hospital room, fanning herself and looking fabulous in her silk head-wrap and a full face of makeup. When Blake drops by for an impromptu visit, she warns him not to agitate her 'cause she still has a headache from her concussion. He informs her that the police arrested Mark, and she mulls that over for a few seconds, then lets out a sigh of relief and says, "Thank God it's over." Blake asks her why Mark would want her dead, so she claims that he tried to go after her money, and when he got nowhere with her, he began to manipulate Fallon - but she stopped him from succeeding. That's an interesting version of events. Blake looks appalled and is all, "Wha-a?!" and concedes that for once she did him a favor, however unintentional it might have been. He jokes that if she keeps this up, people may start liking her, but she pooh-poohs that notion and says, "People either loathe me or adore me.  There is no middle ground with Alexis Colby.  There never has been and there never will be." So there.

Fallon summons Krystle to the mansion to get her to look in on Kirby and see if maybe she can get her to open up about her sudden squirrelliness. Krystle's like, "Can do" then informs Fallon that Mark was arrested for setting the cabin fire after being implicated by Alexis...and Fallon shakes her head in dismay and says her mother will do or say anything to get what she wants.

In an effort to make it appear [to Krystle] that he's fair-minded and not railroading Mark, Blake barks at someone on the phone to locate Neil McVane and an investigator named Morgan Hess and set up meetings with both men.

Krystle enters Kirby's bedroom and tells her she just spoke to the doctor, and he assured her her baby's fine. Kirby starts crying and wails, "I have to lose this baby!" then whispers, "I can't keep it...because it's not Jeff's." She suddenly looks horrified at her impromptu confession and mumbles, "I didn't mean it" and Krystle tries her best to comfort her - but as they hug, she scrunches her face in pensive confusion.

"Yep, I'd be pensively freaked out."

Blake arrives at Morgan Hess's seedy office and finds the PI bruised and his arm in a sling. Hess warily asks Blake if "the black haired woman" he was once married to sent him - and Blake says no, but that he's aware of the threats he made against her when she didn't lend him the money he requested. Blake asks him where he was last night, and Hess says he was in the Emergency Room after getting worked over by his gambling creditors. Blake mulls that over, crosses Hess off his Arson Suspects List and heads back out.

Jeff returns home and finds a morose looking Kirby sitting by the lily pond. He tells her he heard about her accident, and she assures him she's OK and is actually more worried about her father. When Joseph suddenly appears on the estate, Kirby shrieks, "Papá!" and runs over to where he's standing. Joseph stiffly informs Jeff he has a phone call in the library, then asks Kirby if she's all right. She assures him she's fine, then asks her Papá where he's been for the last couple of days. He doesn't really answer and mumbles something about how he had a lot of thinking to do about her and her happiness and doesn't want her to get hurt by anything or anyone. She hugs him and assures him that all is well with her, but he continues to stare moodily in the distance.

Steven drops by Adam's office at ColbyCo, and Adam's all, "Hey, bro!" and wants to discuss his South China Sea report. Steven says he needs Jeff's OK to proceed with anything, and this prompts Adam to rail about how he's a way better executive than Jeff...then disdainfully says that, unlike Jeff, he didn't have a rich uncle to rely on while growing up. He accuses Jeff of being unable to recognize anyone's ability unless they grew up in his "rich club", then makes the point that Jeff's actually an outsider, now that he's longer a Carrington in-law. He urges Steven to join forces with him against Jeff, but Steven says he has it all wrong, and believes that Jeff has worked hard for what he has. He says that Jeff is like a brother to him (ouch), and refuses to "knife" him. He stalks out of the room, leaving Adam glaring after him.

Alexis is lounging in her hospital bed, indulging in caviar, chocolates, and champagne...the usual hospital fare. LOL. Krystle drops by decked out in a sparkly white evening gown...and when Alexis makes a snarky remark about how she's partying so soon after nearly dying in a cabin fire, Krystle sanctimoniously tells her she's on her way to a charity event. She asks Alexis why she would tell police that Mark had a motive to set the cabin fire, and reminds her that Mark risked his life when he dragged her out of the inferno. Alexis rolls her eyes as she chows down on her bonbons, insists that Mark is guilty, then says she's in no mood for this conversation. Krystle accuses her of retaliating against Mark just 'cause he rejected her, but Alexis haughtily insists that she's the one who did the rejecting. Krystle says she highly doubts that Mark is the killer - and that the real killer is probably still out there and may try to finish her off. She turns and flounces out of the room, leaving Alexis staring concernedly into space.

"Did it ever occur to you that they might be all out?!"

Neil McVane is in Blake's office at Denver-Carrington, allowing himself to be interrogated by Blake about his alibi on the night of the cabin fire. McVane says he already admitted to police that he was consumed with murderous thoughts toward Alexis - but needed courage to commit the murder, so he tried to find it in a bottle. Consequently, at the time of the night of the fire, he was boozing it up at a cheap bar in the south side of town. It's interesting that he's walking around free after blabbing his murderous intentions to the police. Detective Blake asks him for the name of the bar and says he's going to talk to the bartender to verify his alibi...and McVane's like, "Whatever" and asks him why he cares so much about bringing the person who tried to kill Alexis to justice. Blake says he cares less about justice for Alexis than being regarded by his estranged wife as a fair man. Er...OK.

Jeff orders Adam to stop conducting studies in the South China Sea and demands to know who gave him the authority to do so. Adam says he's been dealing with "these people" all along, and Jeff recalls that that was the purpose of his Season 3 trip to Colorado Springs, when he took Kirby along as a translator...then tried to attack her in a motel room. Jeff puffs his little chest and reminds Adam that he's running ColbyCo now, and that any time he has to make a policy decision, it needs to be run by him first. Adam snarls, "I understand" and Jeff bitchily reminds him he's just the hired help.

Krystle stops by the police station to visit Mark, and he glumly says, "The judge didn't believe me" and that he's been charged with arson and attempted murder. Krystle looks horrified and is all, "Nooooo!!" He says his bail is $100,000, which means he could be stuck in jail for awhile. A few seconds later, a cop enters the room and tells Mark he's free to leave and explains that Blake Carrington just posted his bail. Krystle sees Blake ambling by, rushes over and thanks him for posting the bail money, and asks him why he did it. He replies, "I'm not an unfair person" and tells her he personally checked out the alibis of Hess and McVane (even though it was totally unnecessary 'cause the police had already conducted that part of the investigation) and determined that neither man could have set the fire. He continues to believe that Mark is the culprit.

Alexis is asleep in her hospital room when the door quietly opens, and someone dressed in blue scrubs enters and tip-toes across the floor. Alexis stirs several times when the floor creaks, but doesn't wake up. The creeper grabs a spare pillow and holds it in front of his face so that viewers can't identify him, then tries to smother Alexis with it. She struggles and manages to wrench the pillow away from her attacker and toss it across the room, and the creeper flees as Alexis screams for help. A nurse comes in and asks whassup, and Alexis wails, "Someone just tried to kill me!" The nurse just goes, "Wuh?" and says the only person she saw in the hall just now was a doctor. She tells Alexis she was probably just having a nightmare.

Zzzzzz...

Alexis has been released from the hospital and is back in her penthouse, and I notice she's sporting a shorter, sassier new 'do. When Steven comes back downstairs after bringing her bags up to her bedroom, she glances around with a frightened expression and remarks on how many dark, scary corners the penthouse has. She tells Steven about the pillow scare in the hospital, but Steven just shrugs and says it was probably just a nightmare. She says she's not so sure, then recalls that Krystle told her whoever set the cabin fire might still be on the loose. Steven reminds her that she bravely survived the fire and breezily urges her to push the bad thoughts out of her mind. She gazes at him lovingly and coos, "My handsome son"...and suddenly Adam - ack! - appears in a nearby doorway with just a towel wrapped around his waist and eavesdrops on their conversation. Alexis tells Steven he's the only one of her children who she believes truly loves her, and he bids her adieu with a kiss and says he has to get home to his son. After he leaves, Adam makes his presence known, and Alexis looks startled and says she didn't realize he was home...and he glares at her and says he had no idea she was home. That was a really weird interaction.

Jeff drops by Denver-Carrington to inform Blake that he's running ColbyCo, then suggests they pull a fast one on Alexis - the way she did to him when she sneakily got control of his infant son's Denver-Carrington stock. He wants to kill her merger plans before she can block it, and Blake grins and credits him for always being someone he can count on - but points out that his plan won't work 'cause both boards are behind the merger, and right now Alexis has all the clout. He then gets a call from Joseph, who's mumbling unintelligibly from a pay phone in an industrial area. He moans, "Oh God..I have to help Kirby.." and Blake orders him to speak more clearly. Joseph says his life is falling apart, then mumbles something that sounds like, "The house...unleashed it.." and Blake is all, "Wha-a?!" and then Joseph says, "There's no other way...goodbye" and drops the phone. An alarmed Blake tells Jeff they have to head over to the mansion, like pronto, because something is terribly, terribly wrong.

Adam has packed his bags and is ready to move out of the penthouse. Alexis pretends she wants him to stay, but he says it no longer makes sense for him, a grown man, to be living in his mommy's apartment. She knows he was upset about the will, but insists it's all forgotten, and that she'll have Gerald reinstate him as an heir, asap. Adam criticizes her for thinking that everything is all about money..."to be doled out when and how it strikes you". He makes it clear that he wasn't amused when she insinuated that he tried to kill her simply because she threatened to remove him from her will...and she says that even though she doesn't always approve of his actions, he's still her son and she loves him. He snaps, "I don't want that sort of love anymore" and laments having gone through extremes in an effort to earn it. He informs her that he's moving into La Mirage...then exits the penthouse, leaving Alexis standing in her living room, looking lonely and freaked out.

Blake and Jeff race around the mansion in search of Joseph, but there's no sign of the uppity majordomo. Blake then recalls Joseph's last words...house, unleashed...then puts his detective cap back on and wonders if perhaps Joseph was talking about the house he once shared with his late wife Alicia. By George, I think he's got it! Blake and Jeff rush back out to the car and prepare to race across town.

Joseph is in his marital home, a small bungalow, looking tired and haggard. He opens a drawer and pulls out a pistol, along with a box filled with bullets. While he's doing that, Blake and Jeff are motoring it down the street, but a giant truck suddenly backs up and blocks them - damn it, there's no time for a delay! - and Blake has to back up and take an alternate route. As that's happening, Joseph is loading his gun, one bullet at a time. Eeeek! Blake, meanwhile, narrowly avoids crashing into another car before arriving at the bungalow a few minutes later. Phew...that was one harrowing drive. Joseph's quivering hand cocks the gun, just as Blake and Jeff rush up the front steps and find Joseph's suicide note tucked behind the door knocker. Blake rings the bell, then reads the note and yells, "Nooo!!" He and Jeff pound on the door...and when no one answers, Blake motions for Jeff to burst through the door, which he somehow easily does even though it's a pretty strong looking wooden door. A few seconds later, they hear a gunshot being fired in the bedroom down the hall, and watch in horror as Joseph slumps to the floor.

"The Arrest"
Original airdate: 9/28/1983

Episode summary: Mark saves Krystle and Alexis from burning to death in a fiery cabin...but is later arrested for arson. Alexis appoints Jeff to run ColbyCo while she recuperates in the hospital. Kirby throws herself off of a horse in an attempt to have a miscarriage.
Recap: As the deadly flames inch closer to Krystle and Alexis, Mark Jennings appears from out of nowhere and bursts through the front door of the cabin. Krystle shrieks, "Mark!!", stumbles towards him, then tells him that Alexis is also inside and points to where she collapsed. He helps Krystle make it out of the cabin, then goes back inside and carries Alexis out. When all three are at a safe distance from the blaze, Mark tells Krystle that the front door had been locked from the outside, which suggests that someone locked them inside before deliberately setting the fire. Egads! Krystle gasps in shock, then stares back at him in pensive horror.

Moments later, an ambulance arrives and loads up Mark and the two burn victims and hightails to the hospital.

Kirby asks Jeannette (the maid) if there has been any word from Joseph - and Jeannette says no, then tells her that since he has the day off, she didn't expect to. That's interesting; I thought Joseph was too much of a devoted majordomo to ever take a day off from his bootlicking duties. Kirby bitchily snaps, "I didn't ask what you expected" and insists that he must have told her where he was going or when he'd be back. Jeff tells his wife to shut her rude pie hole, then hustles her over to the solarium and asks her whaddup with her being so jumpy and nervous, and reminds her that she can talk to him - not just Joseph - about whatever's bothering her. She snaps, "I'm fine!" and storms off, leaving a concerned looking Jeff staring after her with his furry caterpillar brows furrowed.

Blake enters the library, where Steven is waiting to have another of their tedious, father-son snipefests. Steven declares that Chris isn't moving out of his apartment and clarifies that he's his friend. Blake sneers, "Friend..? As in lover?" and Steven repeats, "As in friend." Blake says he doesn't believe him, but Steven makes it clear that he doesn't give a rat's ass what he believes and warns him to stay away from his apartment. Blake explains that the reason he had dropped by was to sign over some Denver-Carrington shares to Danny - and name him (Steven) as a trustee - but now that it looks like he's resumed his gay lifestyle, he's changed his mind 'bout that. He calls Steven an unfit parent and says he won't allow his grandson to grow up in an openly gay household. The two glare at each other before Steven storms out in disgust...and Blake scowls and barks, "You'll be hearing from me!" A few seconds later, the hospital calls to inform Blake that his wife is in the hospital after being trapped in a burning cabin. He's all, "Wuh? Burning cabin?" and says he'll be right there.

Blake's driver rushes him over to the hospital in his limo, and a nurse directs him to Krystle's room. He encounters Mark in the hall and demands to know what he's doing here, but Mark just shrugs and nonsensically mutters, "I'm here" and informs him that Krystle told him in the ambulance that she has no interest in seeing him (him being Blake). Blake narrows his beady eyes suspiciously and asks him what he was doing at the cabin in the first place, and Mark snaps, "That's none of your business!" Blake snarls at him to get out of his way - damn it! - then shoves him against the wall and barges into Krystle's room. He finds her asleep with an oxygen mask over her face, and when he gently touches her arm, she groggily murmurs, "Mark..?" Blake looks miffed, but still sits by her bedside...and a few seconds later she opens her eyes and seems happy enough the see the old goat. She hugs him and exclaims, "Oh Blake!" and tells him about the cabin fire, then mumbles something about a million dollar check. Blake's all, "Wuh?" so she explains that Alexis offered her a million dollars to get out of his life - but when she refused and tried to flounce out of the cabin, she discovered the door was locked just before she discovered that the cabin had been set on fire. Blake says he wants to take her home when the doctors release her tomorrow, but she's all, "Noooo!" Blake argues that she doesn't belong at the La Mirage and says he loves her and wants her to be his wife - but she says she needs to learn how to love herself first, and has no idea how long that process is going to take. Blake gruffly nods, then asks her whassup with her mumbling Mark's name while she was in her groggy state, so she explains that he saved her and Alexis from perishing in the fire. Blake glowers at her and asks, "What was he doing there in the first place?" but when Krystle just stares back at him mutely, he backs off and urges her to get some rest.

Alexis regains consciousness and finds Steven sitting by her bedside. She touches the burn mark on her cheek and cries, "What happened to my face?!" and insists on checking out her reflection in the mirror, but Steven refuses to give her one and assures her that she's as beautiful as ever. Alexis clutches her forehead and wails that her vision is blurry, so Steven explains that she suffered a concussion, but that she's going to be OK. She asks about Krystle, and he tells her she's fine...then says that Fallon mentioned to him that Krystle was driving up to the cabin to meet with him. He asks his mother if she knows what that was all about, but she just pretends to look confused and says she has absolutely no idea.

"Eeek! I hope my face didn't get too torched."

"No offense, Steven, but I'd prefer not to have to get a face transplant."

Adam arrives at the hospital and barges into Alexis' room despite Steven's insistence that their mother needs to rest. Adam tells Alexis he's happy to see that she's alive, and she breathily retorts, "It was terrifying." She then eyes him suspiciously and says the flames were everywhere and that someone had deliberately locked the door from the outside before setting the fire. Adam's like, "OMG!" and Alexis warily asks him, "Does that really surprise you?" Adam says it does, then shakes his head in horror as he rhetorically (sort of) asks, "Who would set a fire and lock the door?" Alexis dramatically turns her head away from him, and he's all, "Wha-a?!", incredulous that she would think he would try to murder her just 'cause she threatened to cut him out of her will. Alexis says she wouldn't put anything past him after what he did to Jeff, but Adam points out that everything he's ever done has been for the purpose of winning her love...which, for various reasons, is kind of a disturbing statement.

Adam runs into Blake by the elevator and asks him if they could have an amicable father-son chat over a drink and attempt to be friends. Blake mulls over the notion of being friends with his creepy son and remarks how unusual that is among Carringtons. That said, he likes the idea of having at least one son who doesn't completely despise him and agrees to go out for a drink.

A police detective enters Alexis' room in an attempt to crack the case of the mystery arsonist. He asks her for a list of her various enemies, and (on camera, at least) she provides him with two names:

  • Neil McVane: disgraced Congressman who has already made one aborted murder attempt by trying to choke the life out of her
  • Morgan Hess: sleazy private investigator who got seriously irked when she refused to lend him the money to pay off his gambling debt

The detective asks her if there are any other suspects, and she suddenly gets a faraway look in her eyes and says, "It's frightening to think how many people there are out there who hate me enough to want me dead." LOL.

Over at Carrington manor, Fallon and Blake exchange good mornings, gush over Baby Blake's cuteness, and chat about how busy the La Mirage is with the medical convention in town. Fallon tells her father that she spoke with Krystle and learned that she'll be returning to her room at the La Mirage this afternoon. She implores Blake to convince Krystle to return to the mansion instead, but Blake tells her to stay out of it, then kisses her goodbye and heads off to work.

Fallon enters the solarium, where Kirby is eating breakfast and continuing to look wigged out about carrying Adam's demon spawn. Fallon asks her whassup with her sour mood, then acknowledges that it must be awkward for her to be living under the same roof as her husband's ex-wife. She then assures her that she could not be less interested in or attracted to Jeff. Kirby snippily tells her that her mood has nothing to do with Jeff; she's just not feeling well 'cause of the baby.

Blake arrives at Denver-Carrington and finds the police detective (who was talking to Alexis earlier) waiting in his office. He wants to discuss the cabin fire, but Blake says he knows nothing 'bout that, then orders him to beat it 'cause he has a lot of work to do. The detective says he wants to discuss possible suspects and asks him what he knows about Neil McVane, but Blake bitchily refuses to tell him anything and says he should go talk directly to McVane. When the detective asks him about Morgan Hess, Blake says he's never heard of the man.

Alexis studies the burn marks on her face (which are covered with white goo) and poutishly tells Jeff she's a wreck. Jeff's like, "Whatever" and tells her he's here to talk business, and proposes that she appoint him to run ColbyCo while she's out of commission. She likes the sound of that, so then he insists that she call Adam right now to let him know of this decision. He dials Adam's number at ColbyCo and hands the receiver to Alexis, and she brusquely informs her son that Jeff will be running the company until she's released from the hospital. Adam looks less than thrilled, but meekly agrees. After the call, Alexis tells Jeff that she now has a full grasp of Adam's psychotic personality, and knows how best to keep the nut in line.

"Do you think I look as ravishingly captivating as I did pre-fire?"

"If I say yes, will you let me run ColbyCo?"

Kirby is having a nightmare about Adam, and that he's telling her he knows she's carrying his demon spawn and can't wait to throw that fact in Jeff's face. She cries, "Nooooo!" as Adam tells her he wants to make deep, beautiful love to her (ick) and orders her to admit that she's totally into sexual assault. She screams, "Nooooo!" again just as Jeff enters the room and wakes her. He asks her what's scaring her so much, and she whimpers, "I dunno" as the two hug.

Fallon calls out Adam on his lie about not knowing Dr. Edwards, and he tells her she somehow must have misunderstood it when he outright told her he had never heard of the doctor. Fallon says that Dr. Edwards told her he had been involved in a case about chemical poisoning - mercuric oxide to be exact - but Adam denies that and says the closest thing to that he's ever worked on as a lawyer was a mineral rights case. He refers to Dr. Edwards as a "dotty, inept old man" who doesn't know the first thing about mercuric oxide, and insists that he had nothing to do with Jeff's poisoning. Fallon pretends to believe him and apologizes for bringing it up.

Adam is sitting at a table with Dr. Edwards, ordering him to deny knowing anything about the mercuric oxide case. He "explains" that Fallon begrudges him for being her long lost brother and that if she thinks he tried to poison Jeff, she'd run straight to Alexis with this information. Dr. Edwards is like, "But that would be lying" so Adam says he's come a long way since his psychotic break and wants to do him proud the next time he unexpectedly drops in on him in Denver. Dr. Edwards mulls over the nonsensical request and agrees to lie for Adam.

Kirby asks Jeannette if she's heard from Joseph yet, and Jeannette tells her he's not expected back at the mansion until this evening. Kirby abruptly changes the subject and asks her how Krystle lost her baby, so Jeannette tells her that she was thrown from her horse during a ride - then chides her for being so worried about her pregnancy. She urges Kirby to look forward to having her baby, not fear losing it.

"Mrs. Carrington lost her baby when she was thrown from a horse. But don't you go getting any ideas."

"Too late."

Fallon runs into Dr. Edwards as he's checking out of the La Mirage. She tells him she spoke with Adam, and that he told her he had nothing to do with a mercuric oxide case back in Billings. Dr. Edwards concurs with that and says he must have been confused when he told her that Adam was involved, and that it was actually a different young attorney who had handled the trial. He quickly toddles off to avoid further questioning, leaving Fallon staring after him suspiciously.

Blake pays a visit to Alexis in her hospital room. He reminds her how delusional she was in the previous episode when she proposed that the two of them resume their relationship, then snarks that a police detective insinuated that he had set the cabin fire. Alexis explains that he had pressured her to name names, and that the detective knew all about their antagonism stemming from the merger situation. Blake says he has an airtight alibi: when the fire was being set, he was in a meeting with Andy at the mansion. He then implies that she set fire to the cabin in order to kill Krystle after trying to buy her off, which is a totally nonsensical theory considering that she too was locked inside and nearly died. He then reminds her that he'd warned her that someone was going to finish her off if McVane didn't do it first, and Alexis stares contemplatively into space while scrunching her face concernedly.

Back at the hospital, Mark helps Krystle pack up her stuff - in multiple designer suitcases even though she was only there overnight - while they wait for her discharge papers to arrive. Mark tells her how much her being alive matters to him, and she stares back at him with pensive gratitude. The detective enters the room and informs the two that he's been investigating the fire and has determined that whoever set it traveled to the cabin on foot from the main road. He then asks Mark what he was doing there, and Mark says he wanted a private talk with Alexis and somehow knew she was going to be there at that exact time. The detective declares that he had motive to kill Alexis and opportunity to do it, and is therefore under arrest. Mark's all, "Wha-a?!" and asks him if Blake had anything to do with this, and the detective's like, "Yeah, we talked." LOL. Two officers handcuff Mark and usher him out of the room and read him his rights...while Blake, who's standing just outside the room, gleefully snickers. Krystle urges the old goat to stop them and insists that Mark saved her life - but he tells her that Mark simply played the hero after setting the fire. Krystle disagrees and points out that half the people in Denver had motive to kill Alexis.

Kirby arrives at the stables, and insists on riding the most ill-tempered horse available. We then get to see lots of superfluous footage of her and her horse leaping over streams, fences, and tree logs. When Kirby approaches a long white fence, she murmurs, "Forgive me, Jeff" then throws herself off the horse while simultaneously hurling herself into the fence. After that, she lays on the ground motionless...and hopefully dead.

"The Cabin"
Original airdate: 4/20/1983

Episode summary: Alexis lures Krystle to a remote cabin, and both face grave danger when it is set on fire by a mystery arsonist. Blake is enraged when he learns that Steven and Chris are shacking up together. Fallon begins to suspect Adam of poisoning Jeff. Kirby is shocked to learn that Jeff is not her baby daddy.
Recap: Fallon arrives home and finds Jeff in the kitchen drinking wine, and the two share some amiable chit-chat. She tells him she's been working late 'cause the La Mirage is fully booked due to a medical convention that's in town...and Jeff tells her that Kirby's earlier-than-usual morning sickness is bumming them both out and he's hopeful she'll "snap out of it" soon. He adds that they're planning on going house-hunting...and Fallon looks sad, but concedes that it's reasonable for Kirby to want to raise their child someplace that isn't the Carrington mansion. She tells Jeff she'd really like it if their baby could be close to his/her half-sibling [spoiler: cousin], Baby Blake, and Jeff agrees that that would be fantastic.

Upstairs in the master bedroom, Blake sadly stares at a photo of himself and Krystle. He phones the La Mirage and asks to be connected to Krystle's suite, then quickly changes his mind and hangs up.

Steven drops by the mansion to pick up a letter from Claudia. He tells Fallon that Chris moved into his apartment last night, and Fallon smiles approvingly and says he doesn't need to be defensive about his decisions 'cause he's entitled to live his life the way he wants. She gives him a hug and says she loves him...and assures him that Blake loves him too, despite his relentless homophobic dickishness.

Fallon joins Blake in the dining room, and he asks her whassup with her glumness. She sighs and says it seems like the whole family is breaking apart: Steven and Krystle have moved out, and Jeff's and Kirby's departure is imminent. She implores him to convince Krystle to move back into the mansion, but Blake says that she made the decision to leave on her own, and he wants her to return the same way.

Mark joins Krystle as she breakfasts in the La Mirage restaurant. He asks her how they both ended up in Denver with such rich, rotten people...and when she just stares pensively at him, he says he's planning on leaving town and invites her to run away with him. As friends. Krystle says she's not at all interested in doing that and declares, "It's time for me to be my own woman" and says she plans to stay in Denver and make a life for herself as Krystle Grant. Mark nods approvingly, then narrows his eyes all sinister-like and tells her she still has a score to settle with this town as Blake's ex-non-wife. Krystle stares back at him in pensive confusion and is all, "Wha-a?!"

Alexis arrives at Denver-Carrington and assures Blake that she comes in peace, and wants to bury the hatchet and discuss how to improve their failing business merger. She says that Steven has done an excellent job analyzing potential opportunities in the South China Sea, but Blake shrugs disinterestedly and says he's got other things on his mind...and by other things, he means Krystle. Alexis says she heard about Krystle moving into the La Mirage and says it's probably the best thing that could have happened to him...and to them. Blake barks, "What the hell are you talking about?" so she coquettishly tells him they're both older, wiser, still attractive, and share three wonderful children. An icked out Blake says he can tolerate "an unholy business alliance" with her...but as for anything personal, he shakes his head in disgust and mutters, "Lie down with rattlesnakes, get up with fangs in your neck." Alexis says it's foolish for him to be in love with Krystle and points out that if he really loved her, he never would have bitched her out so loudly after their cat fight in the lily pond. She smugly adds, "You can't pretend it didn't happen!" and flounces out of his office.

"You know, Blake...you could be tapping this again."

"Damn it, Alexis. I can't think of anything that would repulse me more."

Arson suspect #1: Adam Carrington
Steven drops by Adam's office to needlessly announce that he's off to the funny farm to pay Claudia a visit. Adam makes a snarky remark about him having a friend who's a total nutter who's been committed to a sanitarium, and Steven gets all prickly and snaps that Claudia's a recovering nutter. Adam advises him to steer clear of that train wreck and reminds him how deeply troubled she is (like he's one to talk). Steven snaps at him to back off and let him live his own life...and as he's saying that, Alexis suddenly appears in the doorway and orders her sons to stop arguing. Steven says he's leaving and that Adam can fill her in on their conversation...and Adam slams the door after him and bellows, "He blocks me at every turn!" Alexis chides him for hurting Steven's feelings and asks, "What did you finally call him? A faggot?" and Adam insists he didn't use the f-word, but Alexis poutishly says she won't tolerate him attacking Steven. Adam advises her not to play favorites, and she snaps back, "It is my right to play anything I wish, just as it is my right to change anything I wish: my clothes, my hairstyle, my will." At the mention of the word will, Adam pales and is all, "Wha-a?" and Alexis announces that, yes indeed, she's going to change her will, like pronto, and cut him out until he can demonstrate that he deserves a share of ColbyCo. Adam stares at her in bewilderment and snaps, "You can't be serious!" and she retorts, "Can't I?" and picks up the phone and calls her lawyer, Gerald. She summons him to her office for a rewrite of her will...and as she's conversing with Gerald, she and Adam exchange hateful glares.

When Steven arrives at the funny farm, he gets an emergency call from his roommate/lover/whatever they are to each other, Chris. Apparently, the baby nurse's brother was in an accident, so she's unable to perform her duties today - but Chris promises Steven he'll look after the little gaffer until he returns home.

Arson suspect #2: Morgan Hess
Alexis brusquely informs Morgan Hess that their business together is over - and he says he's good with that, but asks her if she could spot him $45,000 so he can pay off his gambling debt and not be followed by the unsavory henchman who's currently tracking his every move.  He desperately cries, "Lady, this goon is after my blood. I need help, damn it!" and Alexis whirls around dramatically, tells him to get help elsewhere, and order him to get the hell out of her office. Hess shoots her an angry glare and snaps, "You'll be sorry, Mrs. Colby!" but Alexis just chuckles, tells him to stop with the cliche lines, and to buy himself a new blazer, cause the one he's been wearing lately is a fugly eyesore. Ouch...but, yeah, it is pretty hideous.

Adam arrives at La Mirage to give Dr. Jonas Edwards the what-for for coming to Denver and getting all in his bidness. Dr. Edwards admits that part of the reason he came was, in fact, to check up on him and make sure his "old problem" hadn't resurfaced. Adam assures him he's no longer experimenting with drugs, and describes his complete mental breakdown as "a tiny incident". Fallon suddenly appears and joins them at the bar, and Dr. Edwards unwittingly reveals Adam to be a liar when he mentions that he's known Adam ever since he was a baby. Fallon shoots Adam a WTF? stare and says, "That's not what he told me", and Adam promptly flees in order to avoid explaining himself. Dr. Edwards tells Fallon that Adam gets very passionate when he believes in what he's fighting for...and that this was evidenced when he once defended a man who went cuckoo and attacked his co-worker. It was later discovered that the attacker's brain was distorted by the poison chemical, mercuric oxide. Apparently, Adam was able to get the man off on the grounds that he was temporarily insane when he committed the violent act. Fallon carefully mulls over this fascinating intel.

Arson suspect #3: Mark Jennings
Alexis calls Krystle from her penthouse and tells her that Steven has summoned the two of them to his cabin in order to discuss Danny and all the roadblocks Sammy Jo is putting in the way of him getting full custody...even though it's been established that Sammy Jo signed all the necessary papers to give Steven legal custody of his son. Krystle questions the logic of Steven wanting to talk to her about this with Alexis present, but then throws all common sense to the wind and agrees to meet her at the cabin. Mark barges into the penthouse unannounced and orders Alexis to go with him to La Mirage and explain to Fallon how she ended up in his bed drinking champagne when she (Fallon) walked in on the two of them. Alexis chuckles and derisively retorts, "You've got to be joking" but Mark glares at her and says he's never been more serious. Alexis picks up the phone and calls security to throw out an unwanted guest, then chastises the guard for allowing Mark to enter her penthouse without her permission and slams the phone down. Mark throws in the towel and says he'll show himself out, then shoots her the stink-eye and warns, "I'm not finished with you, Alexis."

Arson suspect #4: Neil McVane
Neil McVane is in Blake's office, railing about how his party has thrown him off the ticket, and begs Blake for help in salvaging his tattered career. He wails, "This is my liiiiife!" but  Blake says he can't do a whole lot 'cause he has zero political clout...plus, he (McVane) put himself in an indefensible position when he decided it was a good idea to doink a teenage girl. McVane downs a glass of hard liquor, then tears up and asks him why he stopped him from strangling Alexis. He growls, "Next time, please don't" and Blake chides him for making death threats and advises him to get sobered up and let go of any vendettas. McVane pretends to suddenly realize he needs to straighten himself out asap and ominously declares, "I have business to take care of."
Picture

"It's not my fault! She told me she was eighteen!"

Picture

"That's not going to hold up in court. But then, it is the eighties, so...maybe it will, McVane. Maybe it will."

Andy arrives at Denver-Carrington and tells Blake he has the papers he wanted him to draw up, which allocates shares of Denver-Carrington to Danny (and names Steven as trustee). He asks Blake if he really thinks this is a good idea, then points out that Steven could opt to sign over the shares to Alexis, the way Jeff did when he was going squirrelly from the poison paint. Blake says that while he and Steven have a contentious father-son relationship, he knows in his soul that his son is a man of honor.

Krystle runs into Fallon on her way out to the cabin. Fallon says she gets the feeling that going up to the cabin is a very bad idea, but Krystle says she wants to do all she can to help Steven protect his child.

Arson suspect #5: Joseph Anders
Joseph arrives at the penthouse to return the earring that Alexis lost during her scrap in the lily pond with Krystle, then apologizes for not being more enthusiastic when she ordered him to drain the pond. Alexis laughs at how humble he's pretending to be, then snatches the earring out of his hand. She invokes the horrible secret she's holding over his head regarding his late wife, and tauntingly says how easily she could be provoked into telling Kirby the truth about her wretched mother. Joseph stonily says he'd be forced to stop her, and she stares back at him in amusement and asks if that was a threat...then chuckles and says he's nothing but talk. Joseph glowers and retorts, "This isn't mere talk on my part. I would stop anyone who tried to hurt my child." Alexis continues to chuckle and asks him if he still keeps a scrapbook on her various exploits, then snidely urges him to creep home and flip through it, 'cause right now he's boring the shit out of her. Joseph shoots her the stink-eye and angrily storms out.

Fallon makes a beeline over to the hospital to pepper Dr. Robinson with questions regarding Jeff's poisoning. She asks him if the chemical that was found in his system could have been mercuric oxide, and Dr. Robinson says yeah 'cause it's a neuro-toxin, then promises to look into it.

Kirby arrives at ColbyCo and barges into Adam's office under the pretense of looking for Jeff. Adam looks happy to see her and remarks that she's glowing, and she smugly tells him she feels "terrifically aglow". He snarkishly asks her if she thinks she feels that way "because of a guy named Jeff, who's so nice and dull" then shakes his head with disgust and asks her how long she can go on playing the empty headed doll. [Well...she's managed to do it for seventeen episodes, so I'm sure the sky's the limit.] He demands to know, "Where's the passion? The excitement? The fulfillment?" then gets grab handsy with her the way he always does whenever they're in scenes together, but she shoves him away and saucily retorts, "I have all of them. Just as I have a great purpose in life." She breaks the news that she and Jeff are expecting a baby, and are off to the doctor for a prenatal appointment. She asks if this will finally put an end to his creepy fixation on her, then flounces out, leaving an angry looking Adam behind.

Blake drops by Steven's apartment and scrunches his wrinkly face with confusion when Chris answers the door. Uh oh. Chris explains that Steven is away at the moment, and introduces himself as Steven's lawyer...and "friend". Blake narrows his beady little eyes and grunts, "I see" then remarks on how at home he seems in the apartment, and Chris explains that he moved in last night. (Run, Chris, run! Or quickly find a helmet!) When Danny suddenly gurgles from the other room, Chris starts to head down the hall to get him - but Blake blocks him, orders him to get out, and gruffly says he'll take care of the baby until Steven returns. Chris is all, "I don't understand - what have I done?" and Blake snarks that he doesn't want another gay hanging around Danny, then grabs his arm. Steven suddenly returns home and snaps at Blake to let go of Chris and warns, "Or I swear this time I'll be the one on trial for murder." If only. The two glare at each other until Blake exits the apartment, slamming the door behind him.

The doctor is showing Kirby the sonogram photos of her spawn. She asks him if it's normal to have morning sickness during the first month of pregnancy, and the doctor informs her that she's actually in her third month. Kirby's all, "Wha-a?!" and has a flashback of when Adam raped her. The doctor tells her not to worry about her miscalculation, since plenty of women have premarital sex with their husbands. Kirby leaves his office looking discombobulated and then runs into Jeff, who's waiting in the hall for her. He notices her ashen expression and asks whassup, and she just stares back at him mutely.

Over in Carrington manor, Andy chides Blake for manhandling Chris and reminds him what happened the last time he overreacted during an encounter with one of Steven's boyfriends. Blake assures him he's going to stay far away from Chris, then announces his plans to file for custody of Danny. Andy warns him about what a horrible idea that is, and that it will entail calling Steven an unfit parent, which will effectively destroy their relationship. Blake doesn't give a rat's ass 'bout that and growls, "I'll be damned if I'm going to let two gays raise that baby!" and Andy just stares back at the douchewad in hopeless dismay.

When Krystle arrives at the cabin, Alexis informs her that Steven just called and said he'll be late. She offers Krystle a glass of champagne...and as she's doing that a mystery man -the arsonist - is lurking outside of the cabin, carrying cans filled with gasoline. Eeeeek! Krystle huffily declares that if Steven doesn't arrive in the next five minutes, she's leaving...and Alexis starts nattering some nonsense about the sisterhood of women who fall in love with powerful men who put their business interests ahead of personal ones. The arsonist, meanwhile, locks the front door of the cabin with a giant padlock. Alexis tells Krystle she's better off being split up from Blake (no argument there) and urges her to turn to Mark, since he's the sweet, dumb type who would put his woman ahead of everything. Now that all escape routes from the cabin have been blocked, the arsonist is pouring gasoline around the cabin. Krystle snarks that she didn't drive all the way out here to discuss reuniting with Mark, then finally gets a clue and realizes that Alexis was the one who set up this meeting. Alexis tells her that she and Blake are business partners, and that she (Krystle) is a distraction that neither she nor Blake needs. She pulls out a check and offers to pay Krystle $1 million to get out of Blake's life permanently. She points out that they're not even married anymore, and that her $1 million check is a helluva lot more than the pittance she'd get from her prenup: $100,000. Krystle mocks her for using money to try to worm her way back into Blake's life, and self righteously says she's rich in something far more valuable than cash: integrity. The arsonist, meanwhile, has now lit a fire to the gasoline surrounding the cabin. Eeeeek!
Picture

"Take the million dollars! It's a far better deal than the measly 100K in your prenup."

Picture

"Hmm...that's actually a pretty good point."

Krystle heads for the door and is irked to find it locked. She asks Alexis what kind of game she's playing now, and Alexis is all, "Wha-a?!" and notices smoke coming in from under the door. The two freak out when they suddenly realize they're trapped by a massive fire surrounding the cabin. Krystle opens the shutters, but the flames everywhere make escape impossible...and Alexis nonsensically wails, "Every time you come into my life, something terrible happens!" Krystle's stunt double picks up a chair and throws it through a window, but that only makes the fire grow stronger. Alexis, meanwhile, turns on the kitchen faucet, and when nothing comes out, she shrieks, "There's no water! There's no water!" Krystle's stunt double trips and falls, and then Alexis tries to bolt across the room, but she too trips, hits her head, and is knocked out cold. Krystle calls out to her and then screams, "Oh my God!!" as the flames inch closer. She crawls over to Alexis and hovers over her uselessly...and then the camera pans out so we get an external view of the fiery cabin while hearing Krystle's anguished cries for help. Eeeeek!
