Krystle's brain is still not firing on all cylinders
Summary: Blake is released from state prison and reunites with Krystle, who has been brainwashed by a Swiss doctor after waking up from a years long coma. Alexis unwittingly goes into business with the evil mastermind who is actively trying to destroy Blake's life. Fallon and Jeff decide to once again couple up...as do Adam and Kirby after they reconnect in Europe.
Across the pond in Switzerland, Krystle is awake and seemingly well as she tells her creepy physician, Dr. Jobinet, that she feels sooooo wonderful now that she's no longer in a coma. He cautions her to not rush the recovery process, then asks her to perform various post-coma exercises:
- Walk across the room without looking down
- Unbutton her blouse while maintaining eye contact with him (weird)
- Rebutton her blouse while maintaining eye contact with him (also weird)
She tells him she's very eager to go home and reunite with her husband and daughter - but Dr. Jobinet says she's not quite ready yet, then fibs that he's been in contact with her family and has shared how well she's been coming along. He says they agree with him that she needs to fully finish her treatment before celebrating her homecoming, with the understanding that there could be setbacks along the way. As the ceiling fan whirs above, he pulls out a stack of numbered cards, lays them out, and asks her to place them in the order they've been practicing. She easily completes the task, and he gushes about how remarkable her progress has been, and that everyone at the clinic is sooooo proud of her.
Alexis is in her ColbyCo office, looking remarkably intact after her near-fatal plunge in the Season 9 finale as she gets a full body massage and chats to Adam (who's been recast in this reunion show) on the phone. When she summons him to her office, he reminds her that he no longer works for his daddy and can't just come and go as he pleases. Alexis rolls her eyes and points out that he's still a Vice President (of something or other) at Denver Carrington, and that she neeeeeeds to see him in person 'cause she has something highly confidential to share. She asks him to stop by in a few hours 'cause she's off to an auction...then ogles her masseuse's taut buttocks as he works on her kinks.
Late that evening, Nurse Liu wakes Krystle and warns, "Something is wrong here" and says she senses that danger is afoot. She informs Krystle that Jeff Colby had telephoned the other day and was told she's still in a coma, then shows her a medical certificate that claims she continues to be a comatose vegetable and can only assume that creepy Dr. Jobinet is up to no good. She hands Krystle her passport and a wad of cash and says her husband is waiting outside to drive her to the airport so that she can flee this weird institution and return to the U.S.
Jeff is waiting by his car across from the prison when Blake is officially released. A gaggle of reporters pepper questions at him, and he insists that a mysterious international consortium plotted to take over his company, and vows to get it back. The camera then pans over to one of the reporters, a young man who's carefully jotting down Blake's statement.
In the car, Blake asks Jeff how Kristina has been coping with life without either of her parents, and Jeff tells him she's been living in Malibu with Fallon and loving it - but is very excited to see her daddy again. Blake asks him if he's still going through with the divorce, and Jeff brusquely says he doesn't want to talk about it...and says this as if he and Fallon haven't been fully, legally divorced from their second marriage since the middle of Season 8. Blake announces that he's going to have to put off reuniting with Kristina in Malibu, 'cause he has plans to go to Washington D.C. Jeff warns that it's a fool's errand to chase after a group of shadowy corporate pirates who might not even exist - just as Blake points out that there's a suspicious looking car following them. The car, which is being driven by the young reporter from the previous scene, pulls up alongside them and tries to run them off the road. Jeff manages to avoid a collision with that car, along with the many transport trucks that suddenly appear on the winding mountain road they're on. He speeds up and deftly pulls into an area covered by foliage, and the young reporter obliviously speeds past. Blake applauds Jeff's superior driving skills, and Jeff contritely says he officially believes that The Consortium exists and that they may, in fact, be trying to do him harm. He then suggests to Blake that he stay with Steven while he's in D.C. and asks if there's anything else he can do, and Blake asks him to please fly to Switzerland pronto and check in on comatose Krystle, and somehow convey to her that he'll visit as soon as he possibly can.
Krystle and her suitcase arrive at Carrington manor by cab and she walks towards the main entrance looking pensively tentative. When she enters the house, she quickly learns that the original mansion sets built on the Warner Hollywood Studios soundstages had long since been dismantled after Dynasty's abrupt cancellation following Season 9...and that budget cuts also prevented the reunion show from using the original (Filoli) estate (in Woodside, CA) for any of the exterior shots. As Krystle wanders around the "remodelled" mansion in a daze, she asks a servant if Gerard is around. He tells her he has no idea who that is, and informs her that the auction has already begun. Krystle proceeds to climb up a ginormous staircase and eavesdrops on a woman who's telling her husband that this is the exact spot where the two unfortunate people fell over the railing and plunged onto the floor below...and that everything has been completely renovated since then. When Krystle's all, "Wh-a-a-at are you talking about?", the woman informs her that, three years ago, Alexis Colby and Dex Dexter fell over the railing...and that Alexis somehow managed to turn in mid-air and land atop Dex, who presumably splatted and "didn't fare all that well". First of all, ouch for the flattening of Dex who was basically murdered by Adam when he charged him and sent him flying over the railing ... and second of all, nope, the fall did not occur at the Carrington mansion, but rather on the mezzanine/lobby floor of the Carlton Hotel during the final moments of the Season 9 finale:
Dex arrives at the Carlton Hotel to needlessly report to Sable that Alexis refused to part with him as friends 'cause she no longer needs him to do her any special favors. When Sable (rightly) points out that this kind of whining is beneath him, Dex directs his attention to her and proceeds to whines about how she cried on his shoulder after Fritz Heath had held her at gunpoint. He then throws all caution to the wind as he cries, "My child will need me!", and Sable irritably retorts that she really didn't expect him to announce their personal bidness in such a public fashion. As Dex insists that he is going to be a father to his child, a bored looking Alexis gets up from the couch, while Adam sneeringly mocks Dex for being Sable's stud horse. Dex reacts by physically attacking him and telling Alexis what a cretin she has for a son. An incensed Adam growls, "That's the last time you're ever going to hit me.." and lunges at Dex, sending both him and - by choreographed accident - Alexis flying through the wood railing and onto the lobby floor below. Adam, Sable, and Monica are all, "Ack!" and peer over the broken railing with looks of horror etched on their faces.
"Alexis survived the fall by using Dex as a human cushion."
"That sounds about as implausible as me waking up from a multi year coma."
- Blake lost control of Denver Carrington and went to prison - but was just recently released
- Kristina is living in California with Fallon
- Sammy Jo went broke being a rancher [I wonder if recreating the Delta Rho set was also a 'no go' for this reunion miniseries], and is back to modelling in New York
Alexis gives Krystle Fallon's Malibu address and smugly tells her she bought a lot of her valuables at the auction. When Krystle insists that she couldn't care less about that stuff and only wants to be reunited with her family, Alexis is all, "Yeah sure", accuses her of having loooooved expensive trinkets, and cheekily offers to call her a cab. As her limo pulls away, Krystle slowly walks the length of the driveway, still clutching her suitcase.
Later at ColbyCo, Alexis tells Adam that Krystle showed up at the mansion "bleating on about Blake, ad nauseam". Adam points out that everything must be very confusing for Krystle, given that she just woke up after being in a coma for several years...but Alexis just kind of shrugs disinterestedly and breezily says she looked no worse for wear. She then changes the subject to "the phantoms" who now control Denver Carrington and asks where they came from, adding that she's sooooo delighted at Blake's misfortune ever since the Season 9 finale, 'cause of all the misery he's caused her over the years. Adam says he has no idea from whence the phantoms originated - but that he does know of a PR man named Jeremy Van Dorn who runs a huge media relations firm and is privy to all kinds of juicy insider secrets. Alexis recognizes the name and says she's been getting a stream of pain-in-the-ass letters from a Jeremy Van Dorn, who wants to set up a meeting for them to discuss various money-making ventures. Adam cautions her to not to be so casual about an alliance with the man, pronouncing, "Jeremy Van Dorn knows the people who know the people", prompting an intrigued looking Alexis to stare contemplatively into space.
Steven, who's been re-recast back to the original actor [whose Season 3 plastic surgery must have been reversed back to the character's default settings], tells his partner (Bart Fallmont) that he was not at all thrilled to hear from Blake...and is even less thrilled about the prospect of him staying at their very spacious Washington D.C. apartment. Bart urges him to show some compassion, not least 'cause Blake has been languishing in prison for the last three years. A few seconds later, Blake arrives...and Steven makes a point to dickishly remark that there's plenty of room for him to bunk with them, mostly 'cause he and Bart are gay lovers who share the same bedroom. Blake just kind of stares back at him mutely, then mumbles that he's not sure what to say about a conflict that, by Season 6, had been fully resolved between father and son. Bart pulls Steven aside and tells him to stop acting like such a pissy douchewad...and when Steven insists that Blake doesn't completely totally 100% accept their love, Bart points out that his own father - who was extremely homophobic (and, generally speaking, a tremendous asshole) - is now deceased and that, sadly, he'll never have the opportunity to make things right.
"Every night Bart and I go at it like gay rabbits."
"Sounds like some good, randy fun."
Across the country in Malibu, Miles Colby is playing on the beach with Kristina and her little cousin (Lauren) when Jeff arrives. He says hey to Fallon, and makes it clear he's displeased to see that Miles is hanging around, describing him as "all mouth and temper". Fallon explains that she's giving Miles a second chance, given that their marriage is dunzo. Jeff snarlingly asks whatever happened to her cop beau (John Zorelli) from Season 9, so she tells him it eventually dawned on them that they had zero on-screen chemistry and wisely broke it off - just as Miles enters the room and smarmily asks Jeff if he's signed the divorce papers (that are sitting atop the kitchen counter) yet. Before Jeff can retort, Kristina and Lauren bound in...and he promptly assures Kristina that her daddy loooooooves her and will get to California as soon as possible, then informs Fallon that Blake has asked him to go to Switzerland to check in on Krystle. After the kids go upstairs and Fallon ambles off with Miles, a defeated looking Jeff signs the divorce papers.
In New York, Jeremy Van Dorn is giving Alexis a rundown of his list of successful business takeovers. Alexis says she'd prefer to "get down to the cash" and asks how she can get her share of all the foreign capital that's been flowing into the U.S. She assures him that, with the right alliances, she's capable of generating a lot of money and urges him to take her message to his people. Jeremy promises he will, then suggests they meet up for dinner in a few hours.
Later, at a swanky restaurant, Jeremy tells Alexis he'd like her to invest in fashion, specifically in a company named Fashion Fury. He further explains that the owners are having money problems and need an infusion of cash, and that he'd consider it a good starting point for her partnership with The Consortium. Alexis mulls that over and decides that, yep, even though she has zero qualifications in the highly competitive fashion industry, she definitely has an eye for style.
Krystle arrives at Fallon's Malibu house, where she and Kristina stare at each other in dumbfounded shock before Kristina runs to her and leaps into her arms for a happy hug.
When Steven returns home, he learns from Bart that Sammy Jo just dropped Danny off, and that she's staying at the Grand Hotel, doing an outdoor photoshoot [at night time, for some incomprehensible reason].
Across town at the Grand Hotel, Sammy Jo is posing in a crop top and unflatteringly high-waisted jeans. When the photographer stops to reload film, Sammy Jo complains to Arlen Marshall (the top cheese at Fashion Fury) that the jeans are too tight, to which he cackles, "That's kind of the point." When he reminds her that he's helped her get various modelling gigs and that she's accompanying him to Switzerland tomorrow, she decides the jeans aren't so tight after all and agrees to finish the shoot. She's ordered to get into the swimming pool and pose for several shots while soaking wet ['cause, yeah, that's really going to further inspire people to buy tight, uncomfortable jeans], then climbs out, wraps herself in a warm coat, and declares the photoshoot done. A few seconds later, Steven shows up to chide her for resuming her sleazy modelling career and hooking up with a jerkwad like Arlen Marshall, who's married and likely has mistresses stashed all over the country. Sammy Jo, who seems to have reverted to her bratty Seasons 2-3 self, says she's just trying to live her best life, and that she needs him to take care of Danny while she jets off to Europe to publicly carry on with her married lover. She then makes it a point to smooch Arlen in front of Steven, who just walks away in disgust.
Jeff arrives at the Swiss clinic to check in on Krystle, and is stunned when Dr. Jobinet informs him that she woke up from her coma one day...and eventually checked herself out. An incredulous Jeff asks him why no one bothered to call Krystle's family to let them know she's no longer in a coma...and when he doesn't get anything resembling a coherent explanation to that, he snippily tells Dr. Jobinet he's going to call Blake to see if he's heard from her. As Jeff storms off, Nurse Liu chases after him and shares that she helped Krystle flee the clinic, and will get in touch with him later tonight to explain everything. Dr. Jobinet, meanwhile, is on the telephone, telling whoever's on the other end that he still doesn't know where Blake is - but that he's confident he'll be hearing from Krystle very soon.
"I get the feeling you're up to no good."
"I can't even bring myself to weakly deny it."
That evening, Jeff is parked on the side of a road, waiting to meet up with Nurse Liu. When she pulls up and gets out of her car - another car suddenly comes barrelling over. Jeff yells, "Look out!" - but the car hits her...and as Jeff hovers over the dying nurse, someone sneaks up from behind and chloroforms him.
Back in New York, Alexis is looking at the newspaper spread of Sammy Jo's Fashion Fury photoshoot when Jeremy Van Dorn arrives at her suite with flowers and breakfast. He tells her he'd like to put her in touch with Arlen Marshall - but she says it's unnecessary, 'cause when she heard that Arlen was going to be in Switzerland to meet with bankers she made plans to jet there herself so that the two of them can have a productive one-on-one. Jeremy makes it clear how miffed he is that she didn't rely on him to set up their first meeting, and Alexis condescendingly warns that he's clearly out of his element here - but that she'd be happy to throw him a bone in the form of a finder's fee for recommending that she link up with Fashion Fury. She then breezily tells him to enjoy his omelet, and sashays out of the suite.
Arlen Marshall is packing for Europe when his estranged wife, a young Wendie Malick, drops by his D.C. hotel room to admonish him for letting Sammy Jo tag along on the upcoming trip. When Arlen insists that Sammy Jo will be an asset, Wendy Malick lets out a bitter chuckle, mockingly insists that he's making a fool of himself, and incredulously asks, "Why do you have to chase after sluts to prove anything?" Arlan snappishly retorts, "'Cause I'm married to a woman like you" and proceeds to thin-shame her for dieting herself to skin and bones. He grumbles that there's no longer anything to come home to, and Wendie Malick responds by angrily storming out of the suite.
Jeff has a large bruise on his face and is being further tortured while the camera pans over to The Consortium's busy Swiss headquarters. When the CEO, who's sitting at the center of dozens of computer workstations, swivels around we see that it's Jeremy Van Dorn (!). One of his minions arrives with an update on Jeff's preliminary "interview": he's provided no useful intel on Blake Carrington's whereabouts. Jeremy chews on that for a few seconds, then orders the minion to get Jeff cleaned up for a nice, civilized dinner...in the hope that Jeff can be persuaded to give up Blake's location so that he can be eliminated.
As Krystle strolls along the Malibu beach, Miles shows Fallon a photograph of a remote 20 acre property he wants to buy so they can build their own log cabin, far far away from civilization. Fallon looks less than enthused by that unappealing prospect, then tells him she's growing increasingly concerned about Jeff, 'cause he hasn't checked in in awhile. Miles just shrugs and says he prolly went off skiing somewhere...then offers to fly to Switzerland in order to track him down, bring him back to the U.S., and force her to choose between them...'cause he's getting really tired of competing with another man for her affection. Seems fairly drastic, but OK.
Alexis arrives at a luxurious Swiss villa and meets up with Arlen Marshall. She introduces herself, wanks him about how awesome he looks in person, and makes a business proposition he can't refuse: a much needed infusion of cash for his struggling company in exchange for her involvement in developing new fashion lines, ideas, and avenues. When Arlen asks her who put her up to this, she flatly tells him it was Jeremy Van Dorn - just as Sammy Jo sashays over to flirtily greet Arlen. When Arlen introduces the two women as if they've never met, Sammy Jo comes right out and asks, "Weren't you my mother-in-law at one time?", to which Alexis mutters, "Unfortunately I was." Arlen tells Alexis he can schedule her in tomorrow for a proper meeting, then rushes off to take an important call from Paris.
Krystle is still strolling the Malibu beach while Kristina gathers seashells. When the tot suddenly notices Blake ambling in their direction, she cries, "Mommy! Look! It's daddy!" and Krystle stares over at the old goat with pensive longing before they run towards each other, embrace, and indulge in a long awaited smooch.
"Krystle!"
"Goat daddy..?"
- Jeff went to Switzerland to check on her [and hasn't been heard from since]
- He (Blake) is going to Washington D.C. again to beg lawmakers/the feds for help in confronting The Consortium about the theft of his home and company
- Steven is looking for a house for them in Virginia, where they can live in secret
Krystle gushes that she's just soooooo happy they're finally together again...and then Kristina orders her parents to stop talking and play frisbee with her.
Back in Switzerland, Sammy Jo is clad in a sexy teddy as she joins Arlen for a morning romp. She warns him not to trust Alexis, who would have no qualms about taking over the full operation of his company. When she makes it clear to Arlen that she won't model for Fashion Fury if it's being financed by Alexis, he responds by roughly pulling her into bed and groping her. She wankingly tells him he's the most exciting man she's ever had - but only 'cause she made him exciting [mmm...nope]. She then poutishly tells him to run along to his meeting with Alexis - but he boneheadedly decides 'I think I'd rather have sex with Sammy Jo than meet with a much needed investor for my failing company' and continues to get it on with the skank.
Alexis, meanwhile, is pacing her suite while waiting for Arlen to arrive. When her patience runs out, she telephones his room...and Sammy Jo answers and gigglingly puns that Arlen "is not in yet". She and Arlen then wrestle for control of the phone receiver - but ultimately Arlen is too entranced by her hotness to even pretend to want to take care of his fashion business. Alexis barks, "You little tramp!" and slams down the phone, violently throws her ashtray at the noisy cuckoo clock that just started cuckooing, and calls the front desk to haughtily announce that she's checking out.
Adam has just checked into a Geneva Hotel when, by scripted coincidence, he runs into Kirby Anders in the lobby. When he proposes they get together for dinner later, she declines and concedes that Alexis won when she exiled her for pulling a gun on her in Season 4 in an effort to avenge Joseph, who was driven to a self-inflicted mercy killing. She was subsequently declared by Alexis to be an unsuitable Carrington wife and ordered to leave town to avoid an attempted murder charge. Adam's all, "Say wuh?" and insists he had no idea that any of that had happened...and Kirby mulls that over, decides she believes him, and agrees to get together for dinner tomorrow night.
Alexis is back in New York, hanging with Steven. He tells her he's concerned about Sammy Jo's parenting abilities...but despite Alexis's opinion that the woman is a slutty tart who has no business even being near her child, Steven insists, "In her heart, she truly loves Danny", and strongly believes that his son needs his mother. Alexis disagrees and points out that the boy shouldn't be exposed to his mother's sordid hookups - but agrees to shut it when Steven gets all prickly about not wanting his child to become a pawn in any kind of custody dispute.
Later, Alexis meets with Jeremy Van Dorn to tell him that Arlen Marshall turned out to be "a dead end street" - but also to acknowledge that she needs his (Jeremy's) business contacts in order to generate vast sums of cash. She stares at him intently for a few seconds and asks, "Who are you, anyway?" and says she gets the strong feeling he's not who he says he is. Jeremy continues to keep mum about being CEO of The Consortium and vaguely replies that he's the man who can arrange for her to get full control of Fashion Fury, 'cause Arlen is about to lose his position in the company...and Alexis perks up at that tidbit and purrs about how very interested she is in dabbling in the fashion world. After Jeremy rushes off, Alexis picks up a magazine featuring one of Sammy Jo's fashion shoot photographs on the cover and mutters, "Your days are numbered, bimbo."
Steven has found a house (in Jepson, Virginia) for Blake, Krystle, and Kristina to hide out in while Steven, Blake, and Bart do everything possible to present The Case of the Shadowy Consortium That Launched an Illegal Takeover of Denver Carrington to the Attorney General...'cause, yeah, I'm sure the nation's top law enforcement official doesn't have more important things to do.
Adam arrives at The Consortium's Headquarters in Geneva to rail to the humorless Executive Secretary about not getting to meet with the CEO, despite being a loyalist for the past three years. The Executive Secretary stonily tells him he first needs to perform a minor service which would greatly please the CEO: persuade Jeff Colby to be more cooperative during his torture/inquisition sessions.
Adam meets with a battered looking Jeff and tells him that The Consortium thinks it would be useful to learn how ColbyCo and Jason Colby Enterprises interface with Denver Carrington...and Jeff points out to the dolt that The Consortium wants to absorb both companies, then sourly adds that extracting that kind of intel from him would surely help his (Adam's) standing with this shadowy group. Adam retorts, "I've never really liked you", to which Jeff snappishly rejoins, "I'd feel real creepy if you did." Bwahahaha! Jeff tells him that The Consortium is filled with some very bad people, and that they murdered the nurse who had helped Krystle escape from the clinic. Adam calls that allegation ridiculous, and attributes all of the cuts and bruises on Jeff's face to what he was told by The Consortium: a car accident on the way from the airport. An exasperated Jeff reacts by grabbing him and dragging him over to the nearby bathroom and into the shower stall. He runs the water and quietly tells Adam it's the one place in this suite that isn't bugged, then growls, "These people want to kill Blake. Does that mean anything to you?" A few seconds later, the Executive Secretary and a burly looking man appear in the doorway of the bathroom and ask whassup, and Jeff quips, "Just thought it was time to come clean."
Back in Jepson (Virginia), Blake is gathering paperwork for his meeting on Capitol Hill when Krystle interrupts by sitting atop his lap and leaning in for a smooch. Blake coos about how much he looooooves her - just as she glances up at the whirring ceiling fan and spaces out while the voice of Dr. Jobinet reverberates inside her brain about the specific order of the numbered cards. She suddenly turns into a robotic version of herself and tells Blake she's going into town to pick up a few things...then stiffly exits the house and climbs into her car, and is oblivious to Steven when he happens to pull up in the driveway at that moment.
Steven informs Blake that he somehow managed to get the Attorney General's office interested in his plight, and Blake is all, "Hooray!" and says he managed to gather up information on all of the business transactions that occurred within Denver Carrington during the years he was in prison.
Over dinner, Adam and Kirby get caught up on their lives...and Kirby lays it on thick about how much she looooooves her glamorous European life and has zerooooo desire to settle down with a family. She explains how she got her current job: she was talking to someone in English on a public pay phone in Paris, and was overheard by a man who offered her a translation job (French to English). Before she knew it, she was in Switzerland, working for what Adam recognizes as a subsidiary of The Consortium. Kirby says that her employers are very nice to her, and have shown a particular interest in her knowledge of the inner workings of both Denver Carrington and ColbyCo [um...I have no recollection of Kirby working for either company - but even if she did, she likely would have been too low on the organizational charts to provide The Consortium with anything even moderately useful]. Adam strongly advises Kirby to find another job asap - despite being unable to tell her why - and urges her to abort her current life in Switzerland and accompany him to Paris tonight. Kirby gives that a hard no - at least until he's willing to tell her exactly what's going on.
"You need to quit your job and come with me to Paris."
"No and meh."
Miles arrives at the Geneva clinic to inquire about Jeff's whereabouts, and Dr. Jobinet looks faux puzzled as he says, "I don't know any Jeff Colby." Miles says he knows for a fact that Jeff stopped by this clinic to look in on Krystle, and then disappeared soon after. When Dr. Jobinet gets testy about being interrogated, Miles snaps, "I think you're a lying bastard!" then storms out and heads over to the police station to file a complaint/missing persons report. Captain Shabrier gushes about what an upstanding citizen Dr. Jobinet is, and that since there's virtually no crime in Geneva, he's fairly certain that nothing bad could possibly have happened to Jeff. An incredulous Miles points out the obvious: Jeff Colby is still a missing person.
Krystle arrives in a city park and robotically seats herself on a bench. A few seconds later, a well dressed man walks over and silently hands her a box. She then takes it back to her car and opens the lid...and inside is a handgun. Eeeeek!
Back at Consortium Headquarters, Jeremy Van Dorn is enraged when he learns that Blake scored a hearing with the Attorney General's Office. He directs his anger at one of the Consortium members, Mr. Wu, and admonishes him for not handling the situation in a more clever fashion. Another member asks how they can dispose of Blake for once and for all, and Jeremy motions at Dr. Jobinet, who informs the group that Krystle finally made contact, then further explains, "Mrs. Carrington has been scientifically triggered to kill Mr. Carrington the next time they make love". Which should hopefully be any minute now. The Executive Secretary nods approvingly and manages to keep a straight face as she calls the sinister plan ingenious, while Jeremy grins maniacally about the prospect of Blake dying, post coitus. [A belated note to the Dynasty Reunion writers: you are all weird as fuck.]
Back in Virginia, Krystle shows Blake the bottle of champagne she got for them, 'cause she wanted them to enjoy an extra special night in the sack. She then unbuttons her shirt while Dr. Jobinet's voice infiltrates her brain, ordering, "Kill him...kill him..." Blake smiles back at her with a dopey expression, utterly oblivious to the grave danger in which he's about to put himself. OMFG.
This is where Disc 1 (of the 2 Disc DVD set) ends...so at this point in the recap, feel free to cue the muzak and join me in taking a well-deserved intermission break.
Alexis meets with Wendie Malick to appoint her as the new president of Fashion Fury. She tells Wendy Malick that she truly deserves the job, not least 'cause her designs were integral in the formation of the company, and wankingly adds that she seems to have her finger on the pulse of the atrociously tacky garb women in the early '90s seem intent on wearing in public. Wendie Malick agrees that, yep, she's pretty much been the brains of the operation from the get go. Alexis calls herself a champion of intelligent women, and considers women better suited to run companies than men, 'cause they're always "getting distracted by short skirts". She says that throughout her years of experience as a businesswoman, she's come to realize that men need to be tightly controlled and shown how to behave properly...then advises Wendie Malick that if, for whatever reason, she still wants to keep Arlen around, she needs to "put a leash on him" and appoint him as a vice president of nothing. As for Sammy Jo, she suggests an immediate firing...and Wendie Malick agrees and hastily retorts, "Oh, I'm on it." Alexis then changes the subject to Jeremy Van Dorn, and Wendie Malick says she only knows that he's an attractive top media man who's very very mysterious. Alexis agrees with that assessment and purrs about the aura of strength she senses from the man, and finds herself intrigued by the kind of empire the two of them could build together. She muses about the notion of marrying him...if, in fact, she wanted to take the idea of consolidating power to that kind of personal level.
"Men need to be leashed, de-bonered, and given meaningless job titles."
"You're officially my new role model."
Krystle drops by Steven's apartment to tell him that lately she's been getting really spacey and distracted and thinks she might need to see a neurologist. Steven clucks sympathetically and promises to get her in touch with a doctor who can take a look at her malfunctioning brain.
Alexis lands (via her private jet) in New York and, by scripted coincidence, runs into Jeremy Van Dorn after de-boarding. When he flirtily suggests they spend some sack time together while they're both in the same city, she coquettishly asks, "My plane or yours?" ... and in the next scene, the two are on one of their private planes, wasting precious jet fuel as they enjoy a mid-air romp. Post coitus, Alexis asks him if he has any Asian contacts she might tap into who could partner with ColbyCo, so he mentions a Singapore bank that has a strong interest in American energy. He smooches her, suggests they guzzle more champagne, and asks, "How do you feel about falling in love?" She eagerly tells him she's all for it [along with the idea of leaping headfirst into ill-fated marriages with malevolent men she barely knows]. Jeremy asks her how she feels about pre-nups, and she poutishly says she finds them cold and favors the philosophy 'what's mine is his, and vice versa'. Which is an oddly stupid thing to hear come out of the mouth of a supposedly savvy businesswoman, particularly considering her disastrous union with Sean Rowan throughout much of Season 8. Jeremy pretends to agree with her sentiment on pre-nups, and the two start getting amorous again.
Fallon arrives in Jepson (Virginia) to reunite with Blake and express concern about Jeff, who seems to have disappeared. Blake agrees that, yep, it's concerning all right, and shares that he phoned Switzerland and spoke to a Captain Shabrier, who claimed he recently spoke to both Jeff and Miles and assured him that everything is A-OK. Fallon makes a face at the mention of Miles and tells her father she's sooooo confused by her current situation: she's engaged to Miles, but yet can't stop thinking about Jeff. Blake makes it clear he's Team Jeff and reminds Fallon that she's going to have to choose one of the two...and she consorts her face into an expression of puzzlement.
Miles is in a Geneva bar, showing the bartender a photo of Jeff and asking if he's seen him (he hasn't). He then runs into Adam, who eventually admits that he recently spoke to Jeff who appears to be an abused captive of The Consortium.
Adam drops by Kirby's place, and she snarlingly tells him she was just translating documents for The Consortium when she stumbled across irrefutable proof that he was the mole in Denver Carrington who betrayed Blake as he languished in a state prison. She sanctimoniously rails about how she could never ever do that to her own Papá, and Adam admits that, yeah, he's done some incredibly shitbaggish things throughout much of his life - but urgently adds that there's no time - no time! - to dwell on that right now 'cause Jeff is in real trouble. He adds that he's partnering with Miles Colby to launch a rescue...and that they could really use her help.
Alexis has joined Wendie Malick at a rehearsal for a Fashion Fury runway show, which features a monotonous parade of extremely glittery, colorful clothing choices with a ridiculous number of Madonna-inspired bra/corset tops. When a model struts down the runway wearing the show's pièce de résistance (a short, pink, frilly wedding dress) and unveils herself, both Wendie Malick and Alexis gasp at the sight of Sammy Jo. Wendie Malick reminds the tart that she was fired via a registered letter - but Sammy Jo pulls out the paperwork (she just happened to be carrying around while on the runway) that legally entitles her to a two year contract as a Fashion Fury model...a contract that apparently can only be voided by Arlen himself.
Over dinner, Adam, Kirby, and Miles discuss their plan to break into Consortium Headquarters to rescue Jeff. Kirby warns that it's likely to be dangerous, then shares that Jeff is most likely being held in a basement wine closet. She explains that, through her translation job, she knows the wine growers who routinely deliver their product to the headquarters...and they have reported the oddity of seeing a cage in the basement. Miles then outlines the broad strokes of the rescue plan:
- Kirby and Miles will make a faux wine delivery on a Saturday (when headquarters is reduced to a skeleton crew)
- Adam will arrive at the front door for some contrived reason to create a distraction
- While the headquarters staff is distracted by Adam, Miles will sneak into the building and free Jeff
Kirby applauds Adam for wanting to save Jeff, particularly since he doesn't much like the guy...and Adam correctly assumes that her newfound admiration translates into her wanting to spend the night with him.
Blake wakes in the middle of the night, and is puzzled when he sees that Krystle isn't in bed beside him. He gets up and searches the house, calling out her name. When he sees the patio door open wide and goes outside, he finds her standing in the middle of the backyard, dressed in her nightgown. She slowly turns around and points the handgun at him, prompting him to stare back at her in bewilderment and ask, "What the devil are you doing?!" Dr. Jobinet's order to 'kill him, kill him' once again reverberates through her brain. Blake cooingly reminds her how much he loves her, then gently says, "It's me, darling. It's Blake. I love you, Krystle." In response, Krystle's hand begins to shake, and the gun she's holding fires an aimless bullet before she drops it to the ground. He rushes over and hovers over her...and she suddenly becomes coherent again and moans about how horrified she is that she nearly killed him without even being fully aware of her actions.
"My brain has been re-wired to make me want to kill you after having sex."
"Given the way this Reunion miniseries is going, I'm willing to buy that explanation."
Over lunch, Alexis tells Jeremy Van Dorn that Arlen Marshall is proving to be a problem, and Jeremy concurs and says he's been hearing complaints about Arlen messing around with one of his models (Sammy Jo), and that it's not good for Fashion Fury's image. Jeremy tells her that Arlen has to be kept in line, and Alexis assures him she knows just what to do.
Over at Fashion Fury, Arlen is complaining to Wendie Malick about how resentful he is that she's now in charge of the company - just as Sammy Jo struts over to tell Arlen that she's ready to go to dinner. Arlen smugly (and rather stupidly) informs Wendie Malick that tomorrow he and Sammy Jo are off to the Caribbean, where they plan to charter a yacht so they can enjoy a sun-filled, sex-fuelled vacation. As they happily stroll off together, Alexis emerges from out of nowhere while Wendie Malick seethes about how much she wants to kill "that rotten little tramp". Alexis corrects, "Not her, darling. Him."
While Sammy Jo scarfs down eggs rolls and dumplings at a Chinese food restaurant, the waiter tells Arlen that his credit card has been declined...as has all of his forms of credit. A deflated Arlen tells Sammy Jo he doesn't have any cash on him and asks her to pay the restaurant bill...and when a miffed Sammy Jo asks if this means he won't have the means to pay for their Caribbean vacay, Wendie Malick suddenly appears and smugly retorts, "That's exactly what it means" and seats herself at the table. She comes right out and tells Arlen that she's the one behind his credit card problems, which prompts Arlen to mumble an apology to Sammy Jo for his sudden decision to dump her as his mistress and a Fashion Fury model. After Sammy Jo gets up to storm away from the table, she strips off her jeans and throws them at Arlen...and across the restaurant we see that an amused looking Alexis has been enjoying the drama-filled spectacle.
Back in Switzerland, Miles launches Part 1 of Operation Rescue Jeff by faxing Consortium Headquarters about a special wine delivery. He then invokes the tale of the Trojan Horse as his/Adam's/Kirby's main strategy to infiltrate enemy territory. Yep, that sounds just crazy enough to work!
Adam arrives at Consortium Headquarters and rings the front doorbell...and when the Executive Secretary opens the door, she irritably tells him he has no appointment. Adam explains that he dropped by uninvited 'cause he wants to bend over backwards to please the Consortium CEO by questioning Jeff again and extracting useful intel. The Executive Secretary reluctantly agrees to let him in, then warns that he can't disappoint the CEO a second time. As that's happening, the "special delivery" has arrived at the back door of Consortium Headquarters...in the form of Kirby driving an old truck hauling a large wine barrel (with Miles hidden inside). Adam, meanwhile, is brought downstairs and is physically thrown into the jail cell where Jeff is languishing.
The Executive Secretary appears at the back door and tells Kirby she first wants to test the wine that's supposedly inside the barrel...and doesn't look all that surprised when nothing comes out of the little spout. She then pulls out a teeny tiny gun, points it at Kirby, and smugly informs her that The Consortium knew exactly who she was when she was recruited from the Paris phone booth. She orders her henchmen to take the wine barrel (containing Miles) to the cellar...and to be as rough as possible while doing it. In the next scene, they roll the wine barrel down the staircase leading to the wine cellar...and after it breaks apart, an uninjured Miles springs into action and punches the henchmen, while Adam is somehow able to burn off the lock on the cell door and promptly free himself and Jeff. The three easily overpower the henchmen and run upstairs, where Kirby is being choked by the Executive Secretary. Adam swoops in and quickly saves Kirby from death by asphyxiation, and then the two climb out of the nearest window and down a conveniently placed trellis until they reach the ground. The four race over to Adam's car and screech off...and once they're safely off the Consortium's property, Jeff thanks Adam and Miles (aka his unlikely heroes), to which Miles rhetorically asks, "What are brothers for?"
Days later, Adam and Kirby arrive at the rental home in Jepson (Virginia), where Blake warmly greets them. He thanks Adam for rescuing Jeff, and expresses regret at how dysfunctional their father-son relationship has been ever since he first appeared on Dynasty. Adam admits that it's prolly mostly 'cause he's been a huge jerkwad during much of that time and that he really really regrets helping The Consortium take Denver Carrington away from him. Blake just kind of nods amiably and assures him that all that matters now is that he's his son.
Inside the house, the family is poring through various newspapers when one of them comes across an article about the hit and run death of Nurse Liu, who Krystle recognizes as the woman who helped her escape from Dr. Jobinet's clinic. Jeff chimes in and insists that she was most definitely murdered, and Blake says he wishes there was a way to connect her death to the top man at the Consortium, aka a shadowy figure who's never been publicly identified. A few seconds later, Steven calls to inform Blake that he's been granted a hearing in the Attorney General's office on Thursday, and everyone's all, "Yippee!"
Fallon tells Jeff she's sooooo happy he's safe, and Jeff credits Miles for saving his life - but that his gratitude doesn't extend to giving up on the hope that the two of them can reunite as a couple...despite having already been married and divorced to each other twice.
Sammy Jo drops by Steven's place to announce that she quit her modelling job and wants to take Danny back to Denver with her. Steven tells her he's A-OK with that, mostly 'cause he doesn't want to get into another tedious custody battle and/or make Danny think that his mom abandoned him (the way she so brazenly did when he was a baby). He says he knows she loves Danny, and that she can swing by in the morning to pick him up...and as Sammy Jo happily skips off, Bart tells Steven he's damn proud of him for not acting like his usual prickly-bitchy self whenever it comes to the subject of who should be raising Danny.
"I've decided I need to be more chill whenever we discuss Danny's wellbeing."
"How uncharacteristically pleasant of you."
When Thursday arrives, Blake and his clan are in the Attorney General's office when members of The Consortium file into the room, along with Alexis. Blake presents evidence supporting his claim that The Consortium is carrying out an evil plot to "buy up America", and that the U.S. shouldn't give in to the short-sighted gain of instant profits at the risk of throwing the country into unholy alliances with foreign entities. After that, Alexis offers testimony, supported with documented transactions between ColbyCo and Denver Carringon, that suggest Blake intended to commit fraud...then says she's been partnering with The Consortium in several ventures and insists that it's a well run conglomerate - unlike Denver Carrington, which was ripe for a takeover. The Assistant Attorney General remarks on all the "wild testimony" he's heard today, but chides Blake for not providing corroborative evidence that can support his accusations against The Consortium. Adam steps up and says he can, then testifies that he was recruited by The Consortium to conduct an operation of corporate espionage within his own father's company. "I am the mole," he shamefully admits...to the gasp of many, including Alexis.
Alexis is at the Fashion Fury warehouse, sketching designs, when Krystle saunters in to "entertain" Dynasty fans with one last needlessly dragged out physical altercation with her arch rival. She tells Alexis she wants to buy back the brooch she purchased at the Carrington manor auction, and explains that it's very special to her 'cause it was a gift from Blake [as was all of her fancy jewelry, I'll assume]. Alexis chuckles and says she assumed it was junk jewelry and gave it to one of her maids, and so Krystle gets the ball rolling on their last ever catfight by slapping her across the face twice. This action prompts the two stunt doubles who were on standby to go at it amid the clothing racks and mannequins...pulling at each other's hair and making a giant mess as they throw glitter around. It mercifully concludes when Krystle tries to strangle Alexis with a feather boa, then shoves her onto a wooden dolly and sends her wheeling her across the room. Alexis collapses next to a mannequin and looks defeated and exhausted by the inane fracas, and Krystle stares down at her and smugly says she has a goat daddy she needs to get home to.
Thwack!
"Ack!"
"It's been a pleasure gratuitously catfighting with you over the years."
"Ditto."
Jeremy Van Dorn arrives at his office and is confronted by the various Consortium leaders about how badly Operation Destroy Blake has turned out. Jeremy says it's not his fault that Krystle didn't respond as they hoped after her brainwashing - but rather the failing of Dr. Jobinet. Jeremy then vows to take care of Blake, who has committed the grave sin of making him look like an inept fool. He seethes, "I am going to eat his liver", and the Executive Secretary wishes him Godspeed with that...and everyone else looks satisfied enough with his promise of murder and heads for the door.
Krystle is standing in the mansion's music room when Blake enters, puts on some muzak, and gives her a smooch. She coos about how wonderful it is to be home, and that she loooooves having the family all together again. She makes a point of telling him she's A-OK with inviting Alexis to their reunion, especially considering that Blake's children and the grandkids all love her. Blake doesn't know why she'd want to invite her nemesis into their home, but says he's fine with it...then suggests they go upstairs and hit the sheets [after clearing the room of any firearms - just in case her brainwashing kicks in and makes her to want to shoot him again].
The next morning on the Carrington estate, Jeff finds Fallon standing alone by the pond. He tells her he transferred ownership of their L.A. house to her 'cause he doesn't want their kids to be displaced...and a few seconds later, Miles ambles over and looks visibly miffed at the sight of Jeff talking to his fiancée. Jeff makes it clear that he's not willing to spend the rest of his life doing his bidding, even if he did save him from the wine cellar prison cell. Miles then turns his attention to Fallon and asks her if she's happy that Jeff is here, then snarks to Jeff that he's no longer supposed to be in her life...and as the two men bicker back and forth, Fallon yells at them both to shut it, reminds them that she's not a possession to fight over, and angrily stomps off.
Elsewhere on the estate, Adam presents Kirby with a ruby engagement ring, and she looks overcome [by the insanity of wanting to marry the man who raped her in Season 3] and agrees to become Mrs. Kirby Anders Carrington.
Aboard her private jet, Alexis phones Steven and tells him she's off to the Caribbean for a much needed vacation and therefore won't be at the family reunion. After she ends the call, she's shocked when Jeremy Van Dorn appears in the cabin, and then snarls at him for sending her to Washington D.C. on what ended up being a fruitless endeavor. Jeremy snarls back that he's not happy Blake got both his mansion and his company back, then softens and promises Alexis he'll buy her a castle...in part to make up for her being left out of the Carrington family reunion. Alexis sighs and says she's tired of always being portrayed as a "first class bitch" (despite her general aura of bitchitude) and would really really like to see her children and grandchildren. Jeremy urges her to attend the reunion and offers to escort her, fibbing that he personally knows Blake from when he was involved in the sale of the mansion three years ago. Alexis chews on that improbability for a few seconds, then orders her pilot to turn the plane around and head to Denver.
Back at the Carrington mansion, Sammy Jo and Danny amuse themselves by sliding down the bannister - just as Krystle announces that the "big show" is about to start in the games room. Everyone gaily assembles in the large rec room, grabs a bucket of popcorn, and gets ready for a boring montage of Dynasty milestones...which viewers are supposed to believe were somehow all captured via multiple '80s personal camcorders in order to be stitched together in the form of a home movie. Blake narrates to the footage of..
- His/Krystle's Season 1 wedding
- The arrival of Little Blake (after Fallon decided not to abort him)
- Steven getting dirty working in an oil rig (before getting his face blown off in a later explosion)
Gerard slips into the room to inform Blake that two visitors have arrived: Alexis and a gentleman friend named Jeremy Van Dorn. Blake puts a pin in the family movie while he and Krystle head over to what used to be the vestibule area and inform Alexis that she's not welcome at the reunion [despite Krystle expressing the exact opposite sentiment just four scenes ago]. Jeremy introduces himself as someone who was involved with the sale of the mansion, and is here 'cause he has a business proposition in mind. Alexis gives him a strange look and asks to talk to him outside...and once the two are safely out of earshot, Krystle tells Blake that there's something strangely familiar about that Jeremy Van Dorn.
Alexis gives Jeremy the what for for lying to her about knowing Blake when it was patently obvious that Blake had never met him before. She also noticed that he (Jeremy) is carrying a concealed gun - but Jeremy just chalks that up to his regular habit of packing heat whenever he's in the U.S.
Back in the rec room, the family is continuing to watch the home movie. Snore.
Alexis asks Jeremy who he really is, then correctly guesses that he's the CEO of The Consortium. Jeremy reacts by grabbing her and snarling, "It's time to deal with you."
As the Carringtons continue to watch their boring home movie, Jeremy drags Alexis into a storage shed and ties her hands together. She begs him not to harm her children, just before he puts a gag over her mouth. He tells her he's going to hurry along her demise by filling the shed with carbon monoxide, then promises to look after her children, pronouncing, "What's yours is mine. Your children are my children." [Since her "children" are all well into adulthood, I can't help but wonder if he meant her grandchildren...though that's just as nonsensical, given that those kids all have parents who likely wouldn't be willing to weakly turn over their care to Jeremy.] He then starts up a gassed up snowblower, which starts filling the shed with toxic fumes.
"I aspire to be your childrens' new daddy."
"Well...they're all fully grown adults, so knock yourself out."
Alexis, meanwhile, is struggling against her ropes in an effort to free herself - but to no avail.
Miles sourly tells Fallon he's going to head back to L.A., and that it's pretty clear she and Jeff belong together. He says he does still love her - but doesn't want to be the man who takes her away from her family. He kisses her cheek and heads upstairs to pack.
The Carrington home movie has finally wrapped up, and everyone is milling around the former vestibule area of the mansion. Fallon tells Jeff they have a lot to talk about, while Gerard tells Blake that Alexis's gentleman friend wants to speak with him privately in the music room. A few seconds later, Krystle tells Jeff that Blake just went to the music room to speak with Jeremy Van Dorn, and both Jeff and Krystle remark on how oddly familiar Jeremy's voice is. Jeff suddenly looks alarmed and rushes off to gather up Steven and Adam.
Over in the music room, Jeremy has a gun pointed at Blake as he grumbles about all the inconvenience he's made him suffer, e.g. discrediting him with his stockholders. He makes it clear he's about to kill him, and Blake offers to make him a brandy before he opens fire. Jeremy bloviates about how the world doesn't need morality - but Blake argues that the only thing that matters in life is morality, love, and family. He's like, "And speaking of family.." and warns Jeremy that his sons are standing behind him...and when Jeremy turns around to check, he's all, "Ack!" at the sight of Jeff, Adam, and Steven. The distraction gives Blake enough time to shove the drink cart in Jeremy's direction, and for Jeff, Adam, and Steven to uselessly leap into action while Jeremy is somehow able to flee through the French doors and disappear somewhere on the estate.
While in the process of searching for Jeremy, Adam finds Alexis's purse lying on the ground, then runs toward the shed where the snowblower is running. He's all, "The fuckity fuck?" when he sees Alexis tied up, and hastily frees her of the ropes and helps her out of the shed.
Blake witnesses (what he assumes are) local police officers, arresting Jeremy and hauling him away in their police car. When the camera pans over to the front of the car, we see that Mr. Wu and the Executive Secretary are in the front seat masquerading as cops...and Jeremy is grinning smugly at Blake through the back window. A clueless Blake just kind of shrugs and says, "Looks like we don't have to worry about him anymore."
Later, at the dinner table, Blake gives a toast about how lucky and grateful he is to have his family together again...especially now that Krystle has returned to them after her years long coma. Krystle smiles serenely and says that being in a vegetative state for so long has affirmed what's most important in life: forgiveness, understanding, happiness, and generally being conscious. Alexis, who seems to have nicely recovered from just nearly dying of carbon monoxide poisoning, concurs that they all share the unbreakable bonds of family...and, for better and for worse, they're going to be in each other's lives.
Blake once again finds Krystle in the music room...and the two dance as he gushes about how much she means to him. As that's happening, the camera pans out while the Dynasty theme music plays in the background.
And that's a final wrap for the original series! I sincerely hope that my recaps have brought you much joy and (hopefully) laughter.
