Kelly returns to L.A. after spending the summer modelling in New York...and she's got a new fella. Dylan is obsessed with finding out who killed his father and tries to involve Kelly and Brandon in his plot for revenge. Brandon returns home after a summer in Boston, gets continually hit on by Valerie's friend Ginger, and is dismayed when his trashed house falls out of escrow.
The 90210 gang gathers together to celebrate Kelly's twenty-first birthday at the Greek Theatre, but Colin pulls a no-show. Valerie exposes Ginger as a thief and, by doing so, ingratiates herself with the gang. Dylan begins stalking Tony Marchette, his father's alleged killer.
Kelly is dismayed when she discovers that Colin and Valerie know each other from when they traveled to Europe as part of a teenage tour group. Dylan stalks Tony Marchette's spawn and learns that Toni Marchette is his daughter...and that she's hot. Brandon wants to write for The Condor, but clashes with the paper's snarky editor.
Donna, Kelly, and Clare try out for the Rose Court...but Donna gets bummed when Felice calls it a frivolous pursuit. Brandon and Susan bicker for most of the episode, but then kiss amorously in the newsroom. Kelly is furious when Colin shows up at the Rose Ball with Valerie after he told her he was too busy to attend.
Toni hosts a dinner party for Dylan and his friends...and Dylan is troubled when he snoops around Tony's study and finds a framed photo of Tony and his father. When David gets depressed over his mother's suicide attempt, Valerie helps him do a "gut check" by taking him to a dangerous cliff overlooking L.A. Clare and Steve get closer.
Donna, Clare, Kelly, and Valerie embark on a road trip, but things get tense when Valerie admits to sleeping with Ray...and soon after that, their car breaks down and they're forced to spend the night at a nearby convent with nuns who enforce a "no talking" rule from sunset to sunrise. Brandon unwittingly agrees to have a porn flick filmed at his house, which angers Susan. Dylan is threatened by Tony Marchette and warned to stay away from his fuzzy headed daughter.
When Valerie rebuffs the sexual advances of her marketing professor, he gives her a D on her midterm. Toni defies her pa and chooses to be with Dylan. Kelly discovers that Colin is in a gigolo/sugar mama relationship with his art dealer, Claudia.
When Donna becomes smitten with football quarterback Joe Bradley, Ray reacts badly...and when he starts to get violent with Donna, he receives a much needed ass-kicking from Joe. Steve and Clare hit the sheets after ingesting love potion from a loopy fortune teller named Madame Raven. Toni is upset when she learns that her pa ordered the killing of Jack McKay.
When southern California is rocked by an earthquake, Brandon and Susan find themselves trapped in an elevator with a pregnant woman and (predictably) must deliver her baby. Donna makes it to the finals of the Rose Court selection process and is shocked to learn that her mother was a Rose Court finalist in 1969. Dylan proposes to Toni.
Dylan and Toni get married in a private ceremony near the ocean. Tony Marchette puts a hit out on Dylan, but it goes terribly wrong when the assassins accidentally kill Toni. A devastated Dylan packs up his motorcycle and leaves Beverly Hills...and stays away until Season 9.
Steve is given the task of protecting CU's mascot, Corny the Condor. Jonesy pays a visit to Valerie to collect on the favor he did for her and Dylan in Mexico. Ray files a legal complaint against Joe for the much deserved ass-kicking he got from him during the Halloween episode.
The gang (minus Colin and Susan, plus David's ma) gathers together for Thanksgiving...and the turkey gets cooked breast side down. Donna's testimony during a deposition goes badly, so it remains uncertain if Joe will be jailed for giving Pumpkin Head that much needed ass-kicking. Valerie gets the wrong idea (sort of) when she sees Brandon and Kelly hugging.
Joe goes to trial for slapping around Pumpkin Head...but when Pumpkin Head takes responsibility for his violent behavior toward Donna, the case is dismissed. Valerie stirs up trouble when she tells Colin that Brandon and Kelly spent Thanksgiving night together.
Donna fills in for Lisa as a cashier in a grocery store in the 'hood and meets a young boy named Isaiah...and when she discovers that he and his siblings are left home alone a lot, she insinuates herself in their lives. Valerie angers Kelly when she outbids her in a charity auction and wins portrait painting time with Colin. Steve gets an internship at a talent agency and is ordered to re-fire his boss.
Mama Walsh makes a guest appearance and bums Brandon out when she tells him that she and Papa Walsh are on the verge of splitting up. Steve learns that Rush is his biological father, and his reaction goes from being sad and disillusioned to radiantly happy. Donna pesters Joe endlessly about what he got her for Christmas, and the gift ends up being a parrot.
Nat reconnects with a woman from when he was an actor in a Roger Corman flick. Joe might have a congenital heart defect, but gets conflicting diagnoses. Kelly's deadbeat dad skips town after promising to put down roots in L.A. - which, for some reason, causes Kelly to start snorting cocaine.
Kelly begins her descent into the world of cocaine use and spends most of her time snorting up with Colin at his loft apartment. Valerie tries to convince the gang that Colin and Kelly are using drugs, but no one wants to believe her. Donna blabs about Joe's heart problems to Brandon, and Brandon and Susan consider whether or not they should write about it in The Condor.
Susan wins a journalism award about a woman who chose to have an abortion, and then reveals to Brandon that the story is actually based on her life. Steve runs into Canadian Supermodel Monika Schnarre again and tries to prevent an awkward encounter between her/him and Chancellor Arnold. Colin sells two paintings he did while he was coked out and believes that doing drugs is the secret to his success.
Kelly continues her drug fueled downward spiral, despite Brandon's best efforts to help her. Donna's worried about Joe when she learns he fainted after a biplane ride. Ginger reappears in L.A. and blackmails Valerie by demanding one night of passion with David. (Bwahaha!)
Kelly's attempt to score cocaine on her own takes a dangerous turn, and she turns to Brandon for help. Valerie pimps out David after Ginger threatens to blackmail her...and this dumb decision puts an end to her relationship with David. Donna's sorority advocates a "sex out" on Valentine's Day/night, and Joe is cut from the football team and wants to leave CU.
Kelly enters rehab, breaks up with Colin, and gets a freakish rehab roommate named Tara. Steve, Clare, David, Brandon, and Susan go a ski trip to Mammoth Mountain...during which David gets set up with two Marys, and Brandon and Susan get lost on a mountain in a snowstorm. Valerie and Colin get together for dinner and smooch.
Steve gets a cash windfall from a savings bond and blows it on a motorcycle. Brandon and Susan spend an awkward weekend at Susan's parents' place in San Diego. Colin accepts a vial of coke from his drug connection, Danny Five, and then becomes the target of a high speed police chase.
Valerie posts Colin's bail, but he doesn't seem very grateful. Kelly returns home after three weeks of drug rehab and gets a lot of phone calls from an anxiety-ridden Tara. Clare and Susan talk Steve and Brandon into going on a triple date with Nat and Joan in a boring attempt to rekindle the older couple's flame.
Donna and Clare are less than thrilled when Kelly invites Tara to move into the beach house. Colin learns he must serve a six month prison term for drug possession and seems resigned to his fate. Steve's half-brother, Ryan, is hospitalized after he overloads on alcohol at Steve's KEG party.
Brandon, Steve, Joe, Donna, Clare, and Susan go on a camping trip, and the guys end up in the dog house when they flirt with three attractive Canadians. Colin's cranky father arrives in L.A. for a superfluous visit. Tara's behavior gets increasingly nutty as she sabotages Kelly's budding romance with Greg.
Brandon turns down a job opportunity at the Boston Globe so that he can take a cross-country trip with Susan over the summer. David and Donna work together on a music video, which somehow entails Donna being filmed gyrating for David in a skimpy outfit. Tara vandalizes Valerie's car, then gets a short blonde hairdo in order to look more like Kelly.
Colin is devastated when the judge sentences him to two years in a state prison. Steve meets Clare's childhood friend, Prince Carl, and the two become fast friends. Tara pulls a gun on Kelly and forces her to drive up the coast, then tries to commit a murder-suicide.
Brandon and Susan win $5,000 in the lottery, but then misplace the ticket. Donna seems displeased when Joe contemplates a life without football. Steve falls down the stairs at Casa Walsh and breaks his jaw. Colin tries to escape his prison sentence by going on the lam.
David and Donna aren't thrilled when they're assigned to work with Ray Pruit's band to produce a music video...but since Ray seems totally rehabilitated, it all works out. Kelly agrees to help Valerie and Brandon track down Colin, but their efforts are unsuccessful. Joe decides to move back east and proposes to Donna, but she has no interest in leaving L.A. and turns him down.
Prince Carl throws Steve a lavish birthday bash on the Queen Mary...and declares his feelings of love for Clare. Susan accepts a job in D.C. working for the '96 political campaign, which effectively ends her relationship with Brandon. Donna and David decide to start dating again, and Valerie gets help from a hot FBI agent to track down Colin.
