Sable gives Dex's bare form an appreciative once-over
Original airdate: 12/1/1988
Episode summary: Blake and Krystle spend quality time together in Ohio before returning to Denver. Sable goes out of her way to hang out with Dex. The police continue investigating the homicide that occurred at the Carrington's lake house property.
Over in a Los Angeles hotel gym, Dex is pumping iron when Sable sashays over to him to superfluously report that Alexis jetted off to Natumbe with her escort Hamilton Stone, slyly suggesting that the two might end up in the sack together. Dex just rolls his eyes and asks her why she's ogling him as he exercises, so she gazes at him all intrigued-like, describes him as "the finest specimen in my cousin's collection", and figured she'd check in with him to see if there's anything they could do for one another. She cattily adds that she can't grasp why a hottie like him is satisfied to just follow Alexis around, so Dex explains that Alexis is the one woman on earth who has never bored him...then steers Sable towards the gym's closest exit in order to get her out of his orbit.
While strolling through an open Dayton field, Krystle natters at Blake about how much of her childhood was spent playing in nature and hanging out with Virginia. The two come upon her old playhouse...and inside Krystle finds an old music box and winds it up so they can dance together (yawn). In an effort to stir up some memories she may have repressed, Blake invokes their lake cabin - but Krystle insists that she hasn't been there in a very long time...and then the two exchange I love yous and lean in for a marital smooch.
Detective Zorelli arrives at the police station and banters in an annoyingly tropey '80s TV cop mode with a fellow officer about The Mysterious Case of the Body Found at the Carrington Lake Cabin. The cop says they've found a witness who thinks he may have seen Krystle fleeing the lake, and Zorelli perks up at that new lead.
Back in Dayton, Blake tells Virginia he's taking Krystle back to Denver today, then hopefully to Los Angeles tomorrow to get her head examined by a brain specialist. He tells her it's been soooooo hard holding in the [newly invented] secret about Krystle's deteriorating brain function since Season 2, and appreciates being able to open up to her about it. A few seconds later, Krystle emerges from the house, hugs her cousin goodbye, and then poses with her and Blake so that the limo driver can take an impromptu family portrait.
"Thanks for letting me openly talk about Krystle's brain injury, which has secretly been my deepest concern for the past seven years."
"It's been an honor just being part of this brazen rewriting of history."
Out in the office's reception area, Claire unceremoniously dumps the large stack of files she was carrying into the nearest trash can...which I found utterly perplexing, since - despite them (presumably) being Steven's files - they're also company property that probably shouldn't be dumped in the garbage.
After returning to Carrington manor, Krystle hugs her little daughter and coos about how much she loooooooves her and is sorry she so weirdly abandoned her.
The police question Clarence, aka the man who claims to have witnessed Krystle running around the lake cabin property, hollering and carrying on like a lunatic. When the police press Clarence on whether or not he was sober at the time, he admits to having drank heavily...and so Sergeant Zorelli decides that his statement is fairly useless to the investigation.
Adam once again gives his lawyer shit for failing to win the custody war with the Atkinsons. He then pressures the lawyer to lean on Jesse to see if he can be bought off, and the lawyer reminds him that he's an officer of the court and won't break the law. Adam threatens to spread word of his incompetence all over town, and snarlingly warns him to carefully consider his options.
Back in Los Angeles, Dex is relaxing on a pool floaty when Sable sneaks over to him and punctures the floaty with her hat pin. She chucklingly explains that he was getting too much sun, and Dex gamely chuckles along and climbs out of the pool to enjoy the large lunch spread that she took the liberty of ordering for the two of them. Dex asks her again why she keeps making an effort to hang out with him, so she breezily says she'd like them to become better acquainted, then pretends to be concerned about Alexis's current financial woes. Dex remarks on the interesting past history the two of them must share, so Sable tells him that she and Alexis have loathed each other since childhood...and claims that Alexis has always resented her for seeing her for the fraud she is. Dex argues that at least Alexis is resourceful enough to make things happen for herself, then asks Sable what she's doing with her life that's so great, and Sable cryptically replies, "Oh...I dabble in things", namely "art and some other investments". Dex looks unimpressed and says it doesn't sound like much, to which Sable counters, "Might surprise you" ... though it's highly doubtful, given that her primary life goal seems to have been to wed the rich Jason Colby in order to acquire whatever financial security he might provide, and then subsequently serve as his arm candy - as was made obvious in The Titans episode from Season 6:
Over at the Colby estate in Los Angeles, we get a lot of gratuitous footage of [Charlton Heston's wife] Sable rubbing lotion on her shapely legs before reaching for an expensive looking necklace as the camera slowly pans up to her face and reveals that it's the same actress who later plays Dylan's mom on Beverly Hills, 90210. She asks her husband why he caved to Blake and agreed to fly the family out to Denver for the party, so he explains that he really didn't feel like getting into a needless pissing match with Blake about it. He tells her he expects Miles to attend the party and take his "proper place" within the family firm despite his general doltishness when it comes to matters of business, then tells Sable he expects her to look especially hot on party night. She grins and purrs, "That's what I'm paid for" - yeesh - and the two start tonguing each other..
"I dabble, dilly-dally, and idle the days away."
"Sounds super fulfilling."
The family heads over to the dining room for dinner...and Fallon and Sammy Jo confront Adam about attempting to burn Steven's letters in the fireplace. Adam feigns innocence and says he has no idea how those notes could have ended up getting nearly destroyed...and the three bicker back and forth while Krystle becomes visibly distressed by all of the acrimony and grabs the tablecloth, and eventually pulls it towards herself while shrieking, "Stop it!!" As everyone glances over at her with startled expressions, Blake rushes to her side to give her a comforting canoodle...and she stares at him in bewilderment and says she has no memory of what just happened. A few seconds later, a manservant (not Gerard) enters the dining room to announce that Sergeant Zorelli is in the foyer and wants to discuss with Krystle the discovery of the dead body at the lake cabin.
After the commercial break, Blake escorts Krystle to the foyer to see about answering Zorelli's questions. Krystle insists to the sergeant that she hasn't been out to the lake in a long time...but then looks visibly confused when Zorelli informs her that her car was covered in mud at the time it was stolen (apparently some witness corroborated this), and that her scarf was found fairly close to the body (a tidbit that Blake, Jeff, and Sammy Jo already knew). Zorelli asks Krystle if she wouldn't mind taking a trip down to the morgue to see if she recognizes the dead guy, and Blake makes it clear that he does not want to put his wife through that...while Krystle rails at Blake, Jeff, and Sammy Jo for knowing about proof that she'd been at the lake - but not telling her about it.
"Did you, by chance, flee the lake cabin after committing or witnessing a grisly murder?"
"Nope. Doesn't ring a bell."
Downstairs in the library, Blake explains to Fallon that he needs to take Krystle to California in order to be examined by Dr. Charles Hampton, who is a headache expert - and, in this bizarrely rewritten version of Dynasty history, took all of the specialized scans of Krystle's brain after her Season 2 horse fall...which somehow didn't raise any kind of alarm bells to Krystle that there might be something seriously wrong with her. Blake tells Fallon he's deeply troubled by having kept the seriousness of Krystle's condition a deep secret and concedes that "there might be a better way to handle this" - but that he doesn't know what that is, despite it being painfully obvious at this point that he really does need to break the news to Krystle that her brain has been on the fritz for around the last seven years.
Krystle races down the staircase and towards an exit...and naturally none of the servants have been tasked with ensuring that she doesn't once again slip out and disappear for the second time in two days.
While en route to Delta Rho, Sammy Jo tells Jeff she can't imagine why the police would be interested in Krystle's diary...and that she knows this because she took the liberty of reading it. Jeff chides her for invading Krystle's privacy in such a shameless manner, then can't help asking if there was anything particularly juicy in it. Heh. [Also: no.]
Blake goes up to the bedroom and is concerned when Krystle is nowhere to be found.
At Delta Rho, Sammy Jo reveals to Jeff that Krystle often journaled about pounding waves (presumably her headaches) and that she was given a lifeline (presumably Blake). A few seconds later, Krystle bursts into the room and shrieks, "You've been hiding things from me!"
After the commercial break, Krystle agonizes about all the things she may have done but doesn't remember, including possibly witnessing a murder. Sammy Jo holds up her diary and informs her that she found it at the lake on the day the body was discovered, and so Krystle has no choice but to concede that, yep, she was definitely there around the time some rando was murdered.
Back at the mansion, an agitated Krystle asks Blake why he's lying to her, and Blake weakly insists he's not...and that her severe headaches could be caused by anything. When she wails about how she may have been involved in a murder, he condescendingly coos, "You're just upset, darling", to which Krystle implores him to not protect her from whatever reality she needs to confront. She then decides she should probably get a good look at the dead body in the morgue in case it stirs up any important recollections, and Blake ambles over to the phone to call Sergeant Zorelli.
"You're just having a series of harmless headaches."
"Really? 'Cause it feels more like a severe case of Get-me-off-this-show-itis."
Fallon drops by Alexis's ColbyCo office and looks surprised to see Dex sitting behind her mother's desk. She whines about how useless she feels, being unable to 1) help her mother restore ColbyCo to its former glory, and 2) do anything to help Blake resolve Krystle's brain problems. Dex gaily decides that maybe a hot fudge sundae would cheer her up...and after some mild hemming and hawing about how ice cream will ruin her slim form, she ultimately decides 'sure, why the hell not?'
Across town at the morgue, Krystle has a look at the man who was found dead at the lake cabin and tells Sergeant Zorelli et. al. that she's never seen him before. Blake stares intensely at the dead man's face and murmurs, "Nooooo...", but then catches himself and tells the police that, nope, he also has no idea of the man's identity. When Zorelli presses him about his weird reaction, Blake insists that he's never seen the man before...but on his way out of the room, turns around and shoots the corpse a hateful glare.

"It's a good thing Adam is so bad at throwing junk into the fireplace."
Original airdate: 11/10/1988
Episode summary: Blake locates Krystle at her cousin's home in Dayton. Fallon finds remnants of Steven's goodbye letter that Adam somehow failed to destroy. Alexis seeks help in order to rebuild her damaged empire.
Over at Carrington manor, Blake tells Fallon that her presence at the upcoming Denver Carrington board meeting is crucial in order to begin the important work of extracting themselves from the fraudulent Vitron Oil deal. Fallon assures him she'll take care of it, then changes the subject to Krystle's disappearance and offers to help in any way she can. Before Blake can respond, Jeff's police department friend (Detective Pete McWhorter) calls to inform Blake that he's located Krystle's Rolls Royce, which looks to have been stolen. Blake tells him he'll be right over, and Fallon insists on tagging along.
As the dead body is wheeled away from the lake, Sammy Jo admits to Sergeant Zorelli that she and Jeff came to the lake cabin to look for Krystle Carrington - but instead found this dead body. A few seconds later, a police officer finds what looks to be Krystle's scarf...and as Sammy Jo moans, "Oh my God..", the police team agrees to widen the search for anyone else on the property. Zorelli glares at Jeff and Sammy Jo and bitchily asks them if they're hiding any more secrets he should know about.
Adam is in the library when he spots the Dear Dad letter that Steven had left for Blake before his unannounced departure from Dynasty. He opens the envelop carefully, sees that it contains goodbye letters to both Blake and Sammy Jo, and sourly mutters, "Oh, how touching." He then crumples them up, tosses them in the fireplace (but for whatever reason not directly into the fire), and pronounces, "I'll mind the store." It remains unclear why he's so hateful towards Steven, considering the warm turn their brotherhood took after Steven valiantly helped him rescue his surrogate son during the Season 8 finale.
Detective Pete McWhorter shows Blake and Fallon where they recovered Krystle's Rolls Royce, then shares the scary news that the car was stolen by a serial criminal who has, on at least one occasion, been arrested for murder. Pete says they need to put out an APB for Krystle, and Blake agrees - but insists that the press not be informed.
"The man who stole your wife's car is a possible murderer."
"We're hoping that that detail will prove to be irrelevant by the time the end credits roll."
At the local police precinct, Blake gives Detective Pete McWhorter a description of what Krystle was wearing when she vanished. Pete shows him a bracelet that his officers found on the car thief, and Blake confirms that, yep, it belongs to his wife. A few seconds later, the car thief is hauled into the police station, and Blake races out to the hallway and attempts to lunge at the man while bellowing, "What have you done with my wife?!"
Alexis and Dex are up in the air together, enjoying a romantic hot air balloon ride. Alexis tells him he's the only man she can really trust and that she could use his help getting ColbyCo back on track after The Sean Disaster - but Dex doesn't seem even slightly interested in doing that.
Jeff drops off Sammy Jo at Delta Rho and tells her he has an important board meeting this afternoon. He asks her what she intends to do with Krystle's diary, and Sammy Jo says she's going to hold onto it until such time as she can deliver it to Krystle personally.
When Blake returns to Carrington manor, Jeannette informs him that a woman called wanting to talk about Krystle. She wouldn't leave her name or offer any details - but Jeannette is fairly optimistic that she'll call back.
While dining out in Los Angeles, Alexis grumbles to Dex about her campaign debts, and that her empire has become too vast for her to properly manage. She frets about the damage Sean did to ColbyCo and once again tries to get Dex interested in helping her sort out the self-inflicted mess - but he makes it clear that he has absolutely zero desire to do that. She attempts to sweeten the deal by offering to sell him a high value property located near the Civic Center...and Dex looks mildly intrigued by the prospect - until he's distracted by the sight of Sable Colby, who's ambling across the restaurant.
"I need help keeping better track of my vast empire."
"Good luck with that."
Blake gets a call from the mystery woman who had called earlier - she turns out to be Krystle's cousin Virginia - and tells him that Krystle showed up in Dayton (her hometown). Blake jots down her phone number and tells her he'll call once he arrives in Ohio.
In the next scene, Blake's private jet lands in Dayton...and a few seconds later, a woman with cute curly hair wanders over and introduces herself as Virginia Metheny. She tells him that Krystle arrived last night, was caked in mud, and had a tear in her blouse. She also seemed really wigged out and had screamed, "Hide me! Help me! He's going to kill me!" She then says that a short while later, Krystle was acting totally normal again - except when she had expressed the need to call her mother so that the old lady wouldn't worry about her being out all night. Blake sadly remarks that Krystle's mother has been deceased for years...and when Virginia asks whassup with Krystle's mental state, Blake declines to explain and says he really really just wants to go see her.
Fallon finds Adam in one of the mansion's sitting rooms and angrily knocks the drink out of his hand. She rails at him for "the stunt" he pulled at the Denver Carrington board meeting [which, unforgivably, was held off camera], specifically for humiliating the absent Steven in front of the board of directors, then sneaking out "like a weasel" before she or Jeff could give him the what for. Adam points out that Steven didn't bother to show up to the very important meeting, and says it's clearly a sign of his gross incompetence. Fallon insists that there must be a perfectly good reason for Steven's absence...then abruptly changes the subject and informs him that something bad has likely happened to Krystle. Adam stares back at her mutely...and somehow refrains from retorting that he cares about Krystle's unknown fate about as much as he cares that Steven is suddenly no longer around.
"In addition to Steven suddenly being nowhere to be found, something very weird is going on with Krystle."
"Nope. Couldn't give a shit about that either."
Back in Los Angeles, Alexis and Dex are just finishing a dance together when they bump into Sable and her escort, Hamilton Stone. Alexis and Sable exchange bitchy hellos and insult each other about how shitty their (most recent) husbands have been to them...and then Alexis steers Hamilton away for a private conversation, while Dex invites Sable to join him on the dance floor.
Hamilton tells Alexis that he's doing some sort of art negotiation deal with Sable, and Alexis is like, "I really couldn't give a shit" and implores him to lend her his expertise to help ColbyCo recover from all the damage Sean did. Specifically, she needs nine oil tankers released from Natumbeian custody and would like him to intercede on her behalf. Hamilton mulls that over and says that, as coincidence would have it, he was planning to jet to West Africa in the morning.
Sable, meanwhile, tells Dex that she had no idea Alexis was in such serious financial trouble. Dex breezily insists that Alexis will land on her feet, to which Sable retorts, "Or on her back." Meow.
Over in Dayton, Blake finds Virginia sitting at the kitchen table, mending Krystle's torn blouse. This prompts Blake to start nattering about 1) how much Krystle loves to sew, 2) that he considers her to be the lighthouse to his lost ship, and 3) that she suffered a head injury during a riding accident in Season 2...when she fell off her horse while Alexis was purposely skeet shooting. Blake says he's held off talking about it - until the Dynasty writers made the ridiculous decision to completely re-invent history and cite this accident as the genesis of the brain disease that Krystle has been plagued with for the past seven years.
"Turns out Krystle's brain has been on the fritz as a result of an injury she suffered in Season 2."
"Sounds plausible."
Hamilton informs Sable that he's travelling to West Africa with Alexis tomorrow to help with her oil tankers. Sable makes it clear how much she loathes Alexis, urges him to be of little help to her as possible while in Natumbe (meaning, it'd be enough to get just two out of the nine of the tankers released), and declines his invitation for a nightcap.
While getting ready to sleep on the pullout couch, Blake tells Virginia he wants Krystle to see a doctor in Los Angeles asap - just as Virginia suddenly recalls that Krystle had rambled on about killing someone. Apparently there had been a struggle near a lake, and that Krystle had fled the scene. Virginia then kind of shakes it off and insists that the notion of Krystle killing anyone is just too ludicrous to be true, while Blake just stares back at her, his face scrunched into an expression of horror.

Alexis and Dex celebrate Sean's timely demise
Original airdate: 11/3/1988
Episode summary: Blake launches a low-key search for Krystle after she suddenly disappears. After Sean's fatal shooting, Alexis and Dex reconnect during an impromptu vacation in Los Angeles. Dana dumps Adam and leaves Carrington manor for good.
In another brief recap of the Season 8 finale, Blake finds his bedroom in complete disarray, and Jeannette tells him that she saw Krystle leave a while ago.
Over at Casa Lothario, Sammy Jo is formally accepting Jeff's marriage proposal while Fallon eavesdrops from the next room. Sammy Jo saucily stares at Jeff as she starts to untie her top - until she hears a noise coming from the bedroom. She's all, "The hell?" and marches over to the bedroom with a nervous Jeff in tow - but all they find is an empty room with the window wide open. Jeff quietly breathes a sigh of relief and points out to Sammy Jo that there's nothing to see here, then leans in for a smooch.
Blake races around the mansion calling Krystle's name...then races back upstairs when he hears Kristina screaming from the nursery. She poutishly explains that Danny and LB had scared her while playing, then tells Blake that earlier Krystle had looked her all demented-like as she told her she was going to a place where no one could find her. Blake assures her that her mommy was just kidding around and that she loves her very much, then asks the kids to play more quietly while he aimlessly drives around town in search of his wife [who the writers somehow thought was reasonable to so abruptly be suffering from some kind of 'damaged brain' disease].
Fallon is in Jeff's laundry room, taking her sexy time squeezing back into her orange leather dress. She then sneaks out of the laundry room's separate exit - but then lowers the zipper on the front of her dress to better showcase her ample bosom, and heads back into the direction of Jeff's front door.
As Jeff and Sammy Jo happily gush about their official engagement, Fallon knocks on the door and pretends that Jeff had asked her to stop by. Sammy Jo smugly informs her that she's just accepted Jeff's marriage proposal, and Fallon smirks knowingly as she mutters, "Out of one and into another", then "clarifies" that she was referring to marriage just now. She reminds Sammy Jo that she and Jeff will always remain close, and flippantly points out that she's merely going to become part of a long line of Mrs. Colbys [kinda like she herself was]. Sammy Jo tells her it'd probably be best if she left now, and Fallon sashays out and smiles coquettishly into space while she needlessly lingers in the hallway in front of Jeff's door.
"Jeff was really into me not that long ago. And by Jeff I mean his penis."
"I'd much prefer it if you spoke in metaphors."
Sammy Jo makes it clear to Jeff how annoyed she is by Fallon dropping by at his behest, and expresses that annoyance by shaking her bottle of champagne and spraying it all over him before angrily storming out of the apartment.
Blake spots Krystle's black Rolls Royce and hits the gas to catch up with it - but naturally he's blocked by a large delivery truck that just happens to pull into the street at that moment without any possible way to manoeuvre around it.
Blake dejectedly returns home and asks Jeanette if Krystle had been acting weird lately, and Jeannette tells him that one evening during the campaign she had spotted Krystle outside, wearing nothing but a thin nightgown and spacily wandering around with a strange look in her eyes...and then later stand by the reflection pond. When she asked Krystle about it the next morning, it was clear that she had no memory of acting so weird. Jeannette stares worriedly into space as she remarks, "These past few years, she hasn't been herself." Blake asks her to keep this disturbing rewriting of history on the down-low, then tells her he's expecting an important call from a Dr. Charles Hampton...and wants the call put through to him regardless of where he is or what he's doing. He then ambles around the bedroom some more, finds Krystle's appointment book, and is dismayed when he glances down at the floor and discovers a smashed photo frame featuring a photo of Krystle.
Officers from the police department and coroner's office have descended upon Alexis's hotel suite to assess Sean's killing. Alexis rails at the lieutenant that she wants everyone outa here - and that she's utterly delighted Sean is dead and only wishes she'd killed him herself. Dex advises her to shut it about advertising the fact that she's down with murder and recounts to the police exactly how Sean was shot. He then suggests to Alexis that they go to Los Angeles for a few days to unwind...and when he asks the lieutenant if that would be ok, and the lieutenant's all 'sure, why the hell not enjoy an impromptu vacation after the killing a man we're currently investigating?' As the coroners wheel out Sean's body, Alexis stares at it mournfully and rhetorically asks Dex, "He really hated me, didn't he?"
While Blake once again drives around town in search of Krystle, he gets a call on his car phone from Dr. Aames, an associate of Dr. Hampton. She tells Blake that Dr. Hampton is currently attending a medical conference in Chicago, and Blake's all, "But I neeeeeed to talk to him about my wife asap!" and says to pass along the message 'I think it has started, and I don't know what to do'. [How about: assuming you'd known about her brain problem, you might have considered bringing her in for an exam after witnessing her continually rubbing her head at the end of Season 8.]
Over in the Carlton Hotel lounge, Adam is chiding his lawyer (William Todd) for failing to win him custody of Unnamed Baby Boy. He then rails about how no one, except for Alexis, was ever in court to support him...and also how Karen reneged on her promise to hand over the surrogate baby after he was born. William just kind of shrugs unsympathetically and says he should have considered the risks of trying to purchase a baby in this way. That said, he emphasizes to Adam how important it is for him and Dana to prove to the court that they're a loving couple, able to provide a stable home for a child...and, when Adam guzzles back a glass of scotch, William advises him to maybe lay off the booze. Adam responds by snarling, "Listen to me pal. You look after the paperwork. I'll look after myself" and orders himself another scotch.
"I'll drink myself into oblivion, just to spite you and your helpful advice."
"Yep. You're definitely a shoo-in for custody."
Blake stops in at the drug rehabilitation center to see if Krystle had kept her standing appointment with the charity, but dejectedly leaves when there's no sign of her. One of the center's residents rushes out after him and says he swears he saw Krystle a few minutes ago walking on a nearby street. Blake perks up at that and gallops a few blocks over...and when he spots a woman with a blonde bob smooching a strange man, he rushes over and grabs at her while crying out, "Krystle!" - but it turns out to be a woman wearing an unflattering white bob of a wig. The man she's with recognizes Blake from his gubernatorial campaign and asks for an autograph, which Blake awkwardly obliges.
Over in an L.A. hotel, Alexis calls Fallon to assure her she's A-OK after nearly being killed by Sean...and that she's enjoying a vacay with Dex in sunny California. After she ends the call, Dex sashays out of the bathroom in nothing more than a towel - mmm hmm.. - and gets all smoochy-romantic with Alexis as he sexily lets the towel fall to the floor.
Back at the mansion, Adam drunkenly rails to Fallon about how pissed off he still is at Dana and her betrayal - just as Dana enters the room and stonily tells him they need to talk. In private. Upstairs.
Over at campaign headquarters, Jeff is working the phones, telling Jim Rayford's aide that he strongly believes the election was rigged and is therefore pushing for a recount. After the call, a weary looking Blake tells Jeff that Krystle has mysteriously disappeared and that he'd like him to call up his friend at police headquarters and ask him to launch a discrete search for her while somehow telling no one, 'cause he doesn't want the public or his own family to know about Krystle's sudden mental health crisis.
"I want your police friend to look for Krystle without looking like he's looking for her."
"I'll look into it."
After nightfall, Dana quietly gets dressed, then hovers over Adam and kisses his cheek before whispering, "Goodbye, Adam." She exits the bedroom clutching her suitcases and runs into Fallon on her way out - but declines to explain that she's leaving Adam and Carrington manor forever. A few seconds later, Blake and Jeff arrive...and Jeff and Fallon share a private chuckle about almost nearly getting caught in the act by Sammy Jo earlier, while seeming utterly oblivious about the kind of garbage people they've suddenly turned into.
Sammy Jo is wandering around her Delta Rho house, leaving messages for Jeff to call her back and exploring the spare room in search of Steven when she thought she heard a noise - but of course he's not there 'cause of his secret departure from Denver in the Season 8 finale. Danny (now being played by a different kid) ambles into the living room. He tells his mom he wants to wait for his daddy to come and tuck him in, and Sammy Jo suggests they make some hot chocolate and wait for Steven to drop by...which he clearly won't, 'cause apparently the shitbag fled town without even bothering to say goodbye to his own son.
Dr. Hampton returns Blake's call and urges him to bring Krystle into his office asap so that he can examine her. Blake explains that that might be a problem 'cause she's currently missing, and Dr. Hampton scrunches his face concernedly and says, "You have to. She could be capable of almost anything" ... and a distressed Blake moans, "Oh God.."
Back in L.A., Alexis and Dex return to their hotel room acting drunk and amorous. Alexis purrs to Dex about how much she loooooves him, breathily declaring him her best friend in the entire world, and "the only man who's man enough to give me my space". The two topple onto the carpet, where Alexis sings before promptly passing out. Dex rolls his eyes and good-naturedly murmurs, "Some enchanted evening" before covering her with his blazer.
"Let's enjoy a drunk, enchanted evening."
"With an emphasis on drunk."
Dex is enjoying a bubble bath when Alexis ambles into the bathroom and apologizes for drunkenly passing out the night before. She coquettishly points out that she's wide awake now, and Dex responds by pulls her into the tub with him, silk bathrobe and all. Mmm hmm..
When Blake returns to the mansion, Fallon chides him for not sharing with her whatever problems are clearly anguishing him. She implores him to not shut her out.
Jeff and Sammy Jo arrive at the cabin Krystle likes to chill out in. When they enter the property, they notice a fresh set of tire tracks.
Back at the mansion, Blake is browsing through his/Krystle's wedding album. He looks particularly concerned when he comes across one photo with Krystle's head ripped out of the picture.
Sammy Jo finds Krystle's diary lying on the ground and remarks that she must be close by 'cause she's never without her treasured journal. A few seconds later, they spot a body floating in the lake, prompting Sammy Jo to cry, "Oh no! Krystle!"

"Parting is such sweet sorrow...though, in this case, without the sorrow."
Original airdate: 3/30/1988
Episode summary: Adam and Steven manage to rescue the surrogate baby after a helpful tip from Leslie. Sammy Jo accepts Jeff's marriage proposal. Blake is concerned when Krystle messes up their bedroom and goes missing.
Blake has arrived at the police station (along with Karen and Jesse). Lieutenant Benning informs them that he's notified the FBI...and when Adam rushes in and says he just heard about his baby going missing, Jesse accuses him of abducting the tot. The two starts shoving each other - until Blake breaks it up. Adam insists that he had nothing to do with the baby's disappearance, and that for the last several hours he's been aimlessly driving around the city.
Leslie returns to her suite at the Carlton Hotel and starts packing up her stuff...and as she heads towards the bathroom, she's all, "Ack!" when she suddenly encounters Sean. She starts screaming, so he covers her mouth and says he needs her to join forces with him in a highly criminal venture that'll make them both rich. Leslie pretends to be intrigued by the proposal and agreeably mutters, "Why the hell should I be the only poor Carrington?"
Back at the mansion, Blake tells Adam he's available for whatever support he needs, as both a father or a friend...and that if he did do something nutty - like abduct his infant son, for example - it was no doubt something he did out of love. Adam reiterates that he really was just driving around aimlessly all evening...albeit he did end up at the hospital - but only to stare up at the building and send his son strong vibes to let him know he was nearby. Blake decides that, yeah, that non-alibi sounds reasonable enough and assures him that surely his son will be found soon.
Sean ferries Leslie to a cabin somewhere near a lake in northern Colorado...and as soon as she enters the cabin, she hears a crying baby and then sees the infant tucked into a small basket. Sean explains that it's Adam's surrogate baby, and Leslie immediately picks him up and cuddles him. Sean describes the baby as "our future", and Leslie's like, "Oh OK", but is visibly weirded out by the troubling situation she's somehow stumbled into.
Lieutenant Benning tells Blake that surely someone out there knows something that might help them track down the missing baby...and to that end, will inform the media of the kidnapping as a public appeal for information.
Back at the cabin, Leslie feeds the baby and cooks Sean a hearty breakfast. Sean smarmily remarks on how they both share a money/sex obsession, and points out that the baby he just abducted has to be worth millions. When Leslie suggests that he should maybe give the baby back sometime soon, Sean growls, "Why should I?" and says he rather likes the idea of the Carringtons never knowing if he's alive or dead. Leslie looks further grossed out when the weirdo suggests they indulge in a romp, and tries to put him off by telling him she has to clear the table. Sean reacts by sending everything atop the table crashing to the floor, and Leslie pretends to be turned on by his macho aggression and unbuttons his shirt before the two start going at it.
"How 'bout a little between-the-sheets action with a demented baby stealer?"
"I can hardly contain my arousal."
Post-doink, Leslie quietly climbs out of bed (while Sean is still sleeping), then picks up the phone and calls the mansion. In a hushed tone, she informs everyone that she's with Sean and the kidnapped baby in a cabin by a lake near some kind of mountainous area - but then suddenly the conversation comes to an abrupt half when Sean violently grabs the phone out of Leslie's hand and disconnects the receiver. At the mansion, the FBI agent tells Adam that the call wasn't long enough to quickly get full trace information.
Sean backhands Leslie and yells at her for making the call, then once again rants and raves about how badly the Carringtons treated his deceased father and disgraced sister. He angrily concludes that he can never trust Leslie again, then violently smacks her face until she loses consciousness and slumps to the floor.
Sammy Jo summons Fallon over to Delta Rho to discuss the possible merging of their families if she does, in fact, agree to marry Jeff. She says that while she doesn't expect them to become best friends, they also shouldn't be enemies for the sake of their small children. Fallon bitchily retorts that, actually, she does consider her the enemy, and snarkishly accuses her of wanting to marry Steven just so she could become a Carrington...and then getting engaged to Jeff just so she could become a Colby. Sammy Jo shoots her the stink-eye and asks her if she's as mad at her for landing Jeff, or at herself for so hastily throwing him away.
Lieutenant Benning tells Adam and Steven that they have a general location of the cabin from which Leslie's call was traced - but that it's going to take time for his officers to locate the actual cabin. Adam declares that he's more than ready to jump into his car and head north, and Steven offers to go with him...and gives Lieutenant Benning the number of the car phone to keep in touch in case there are any new developments.
Back at the mansion, Blake and Alexis agonize over where the missing baby might be at this moment. Alexis sourly calls it "convenient" that Leslie is with the baby - but Blake doesn't believe that Leslie would hurt a small child out of spite. Jeff pops into the room to announce that James Rayford won the governorship - but that he (Jeff) is calling for a recount after some "suspicious returns" from one of the more shady counties. Blake and Alexis chew on that for a few seconds, but agree that right now their main priority is locating their missing grandson.
Over in the conservatory, Krystle tells Fallon she heard about the contentious conversation she had with Sammy Jo earlier. Fallon makes it clear how utterly contemptuous she is towards the woman she's branding a husband stealer, and Krystle shoots her a funny look and points out that Jeff is her ex-husband, and that no one held a gun to her head and forced her to divorce him. Fallon's like 'whatever' and nonsensically insists that Sammy Jo is "butting into our lives", and Krystle says it kinda sounds like she doesn't actually want Jeff back - but selfishly doesn't want anyone else to have him either.
"Sounds like you hate Jeff as equally as the notion of him hooking up with someone new."
"Yes and yes."
Adam and Steven burst into the cabin and find it empty - except for an unconscious and injured Leslie, who's still lying crumpled on the floor. As they help her to the nearby bed, she manages to tell them that Sean took off with the baby. Adam and Steven promise that she'll eventually receive medical help once the police arrive, then quickly take off.
Sean is racing off in Leslie's car, with the baby in the passenger seat, while Adam and Steven follow behind in close pursuit. When Sean runs over something and gets a flat tire, he pulls over, grabs the baby and runs off on foot. A few seconds later, Adam and Steven spot Leslie's abandoned car, see that Sean and the baby are not inside, and split up to search the area. Adam heads towards the nearby lake, where Sean is frantically trying to drag a canoe towards the water. As he places the baby inside the end of the canoe, Adam spots him, yells, "Hey! Gimme my baby back!" and leaps high into the air to pounce atop Sean. The two [stunt doubles] begin to wrestle around...and, in the process, unwittingly push the canoe away from shore. In the meantime, Steven runs over, hears the baby crying from the oarless canoe, and yells at Adam that he should prolly stop wrestling with Sean and focus on rescuing his infant before he drowns. Adam diverts his attention from Sean, who uses the opportunity to run away and take off in Adam's car, and then Adam and Steven plunge into the lake and swim towards the canoe, which is slowly filling with water. Eeeek!
After the commercial break, Adam reaches the canoe, grabs his son (which - throughout most of the rescue sequence - has been replaced by a stunt double doll), and swims with him back to shore. He and Steven are met by the local sheriff, who advises them to get the doll baby to a hospital asap. Adam thanks Steven for helping retrieve his son and says he'd like him to be the child's godfather...and Steven looks touched by the request and wanks him about what an amazingly resourceful fighter he's always proven himself to be.
"Wheeeeee!"
"Waaaaah!"
"Good news The stunt double doll is OK - just a little wet."
"We'll just dry it off and it'll be good to go."
Fallon sashays over to Jeff's apartment decked out in a form-fitting orange leather dress. She tells him she wanted to check out his bachelor pad, then snappishly declares that he owes her an apology for being such a controlling husband. Jeff tells her that during their marriage he always felt like a substitute for Blake, and she overreacts to that remark by slapping him. Jeff then playfully pins back her arms as she tries to wrestle him, then throws in the towel on that and leans in for an amorous smooch. In the next scene, the two are in his bed, passionately getting it on during a sex sequence that goes on for what seems like a really looooooong time. After the commercial break, the two are still going at it when the doorbell rings...and Jeff is stunned to find Sammy Jo on his doorstep. She's holding a bottle of champagne and two glasses and happily declares, "I love you. I need you. And I will marry you." Awkward.
Alexis is enjoying breakfast in bed while she talks on the phone to Adam. She gushes about how proud she is of him and Steven for rescuing Unnamed Baby Boy, and says that surely the judge will reward him by giving him sole custody. Adam swiftly changes the subject and says he gets the strong feeling that lately Steven seems to be really bothered by something.
Blake is speaking privately with Steven in the mansion's library, applauding him for the way he jumped in to help Adam in his hour of need. Steven absorbs the compliment for a few seconds, then asks Blake to please make it a point to look after Adam, give him tons of support, and consider offering him the chance to one day run Denver Carrington. He then tells Blake that he and Adam are sooooo lucky to have him as their father, solemnly says, "I love you very much, dad", and chides himself for not saying it frequently enough. Blake breezily returns his I love you, then tells him he'll see him later [though: not] and exits the room. Steven ambles over to Blake's desk and leaves him a sealed note with Dad scrawled on the envelop, then stares down at it contemplatively as he whispers, "Goodbye, dad."
Alexis is luxuriating in a bubble bath when a bullet suddenly whizzes past her, and Sean appears in the doorway aiming a gun at her. He bellows, "That's for Kirby!", then shoots the glass of champagne she's holding and bellows, "That's for my father!" As Alexis stares back at him in mute horror, he orders her out of the tub.
"Oh...hi Sean. Would you like a glass of champagne?"
"I'd much prefer to put a bullet through yours."
Adam enters the judge's chambers and finds Karen and Jesse already there, waiting. Karen expresses her gratitude to Adam for rescuing the tot...and when Adam explains that he had been the target of a revenge plot against the Carringtons, Jesse smugly rejoins that if he and Karen were to get custody, he'd never be the target of anyone's revenge. The judge then enters the room and says he's decided to reveal his ruling to them now, 'cause he doesn't want any outbursts in court. He then drops the bombshell that he's giving custody of Unnamed Baby Boy to Karen, 'cause he strongly feels that the child belongs with his natural mother. Karen's all, "Yippee!" and hugs Jesse...while an aghast Adam quietly seethes, "No. You're not going to get my son."
Elsewhere in the courthouse, Blake gets on a payphone and places a call to the doctor who had examined Krystle a number of years ago [for a brain injury she suffered years ago that is just now going to re-emerge and present her with a major health issue].
Back at the Carlton Hotel, Sean forces Alexis to open her safe...and she's in the process of emptying out all of her cash and jewelry when Dex suddenly bursts into the suite and tackles Sean. The two men tumble around the suite, knocking things over while a frightened Alexis looks on helplessly. Dex finally manages to grab the gun...and when he and Sean start wrestling for control of the trigger, it suddenly goes off. Eeeek!
Blake returns to the mansion looking for Krystle and finds their bedroom in complete disarray. He quickly summons Jeannette to ask whassup, so she tells him that Krystle left a while ago without specifying where she was going. Blake asks Jeannette to straighten up the room and keep mum about the mess she left behind...then scrunches his face concernedly, and shakes his head while muttering, "My God, Krystle. I thought we had more time."

"When I reported that Blake Carrington was winning the gubernatorial race, I actually meant the opposite of that."
Original airdate: 3/16/1988
Episode summary: Blake is dismayed when his lead in the gubernatorial election takes a dramatic turn. Jeff proposes to Sammy Jo. Karen panics when her baby goes missing from the hospital's nursery.
- She won't lose the gubernatorial election
- Adam won't lose custody of his son
- Sean is not alive and won't be returning to Denver
Dana tries to explain to a furious Adam that while she can't unsay what she said in court during the previous episode, it's entirely possible that the judge could still rule in their favor. She weakly insists that she wants the surrogate baby as much as he does...and that since they're a rich married couple, they stand a far better chance of getting custody than Karen, a poor-ish single mother of two. Adam snarlingly points out that they're hardly a loving married couple anymore, given that they now sleep in separate rooms. Dana reminds him that when they first got married he had pronounced "together we can do anything" ... then begs him to not hate her, and presses herself against him in a clingy hug.
Blake has requested local air time to deliver a speech that addresses "the dark cloud" that's been looming over his campaign, aka the false accusations of gun-running out of Natumbe. He holds up a stack of papers and says they offer authenticated proof that he was the victim of an evil plot that was designed to bring down him, his family, and his gubernatorial campaign. As Alexis grimly watches the speech from her living room, Russ Kelton tells her they need to immediately do something to counter Blake's sudden momentum - but Alexis disagrees and reminds him that her saintly image wasn't tarnished in any gun-running scandal, and that she's A-OK just sitting idly by and passively hoping for the best election outcome.
Adam is at the hospital, staring at his baby through the nursery window. He asks the nurse if he can hold his son - and she says that even though visiting hours haven't started yet, she'd be more than happy to bend the rules for him. She leads him into the nursery and hands him his son...and he cradles him while cooingly promising to never abandon him.
Adam drops by Karen's house (where Jesse and Karen are getting ready for court) to implore Karen to not rob their child of a life without his bio dad. He suggests they enter into an agreement of joint custody, and that she could move into Carrington manor with her daughters so that they all can live under the same roof [which is probably a tad weird]. Jesse's like, "That's enough, I want you outa here" and Karen makes it clear that she has zero interest in bunking with a bunch of dysfunctional rich people and asks him to leave. As Adam ambles towards the front door, he shoots Jesse the stink-eye and sternly pronounces, "He is my son, and you are not going to raise him."
"I'd like to discuss joint custody."
"How dare you."
In court, the judge natters about what a conundrum it is for him to make the best decision for the welfare of Karen's/Adam's yet unnamed baby and weighs the pros and cons of each party getting custody:
- The natural link between child and bio mom favors Karen getting custody
- Adam and Dana are rich and have a signed surrogate contract, which favors them getting custody
- Karen is a single parent (without big earning potential) who's already raising two kids, which does not favor her getting custody
At the mention of that last thing, Gloria interrupts the judge's speech to make a dramatic announcement: Karen and Jesse are officially reconciling, which effectively means that Karen is no longer a single parent. Adam bellows, "That's a cheap trick!", while his lawyer sourly calls the announcement "an insult to the court". When Gloria insists that Jesse and Karen are able to offer a secure environment in which to raise a baby, Adam screeches, "For how long?!" ... and then he and Jesse start bickering back and forth - until the judge bangs his gavel and yells at them to shut it. He says he's going to go off somewhere quiet to deliberate, and will notify them when he's reached a decision.
After exiting the courtroom, Adam is swarmed by the press, which he does his best to ignore. When the press swarms Alexis and asks her whaddup with her scoundrel of a husband, she curtly declares that there's nothing to discuss 'cause he's dead.
At Delta Rho, Jeff tells Sammy Jo that after his rollercoaster of a life this season, he's somehow decided it makes total sense to jump head-first into yet another marriage...and officially proposes. The camera then pans over to Danny, who has tiptoed into the room and is quietly eavesdropping. He contorts his little face into a poutish expression before he turns around and runs off. Sammy Jo, meanwhile, points out how rapidly their romance has progressed - but Jeff insists that he loves her, knows it's right, and doesn't want them to miss an opportunity to be happy. Sammy Jo chews on that for a few seconds, then tells him she's gonna need time to think about it.
"Will you do me the honor of becoming my rebound bride?"
"I'm going to weigh in with a hard no."
At Denver Carrington, while waiting for Steven to finally end the work day, Danny asks if he'll still be his daddy in the event that mommy gets married again. Steven assures him he will, then wonders aloud why he'd ask such a thing...so Danny blabs that earlier he had overheard Jeff proposing to Sammy Jo.
Sammy Jo is enjoying a glass of wine in her living room when Steven drops by to sourly ask if it's true that she's marrying Jeff. Sammy Jo says it's none of his business - but that, yeah, Jeff did ask her to marry him...and so she's taking time to seriously contemplate the proposal. Steven reminds her that Jeff just got divorced, and warns that he and Fallon have always had a tight bond that is sure to last for eternity. Sammy Jo's like, "Whatever, this is my decision to make", and an irked Steven reacts by bitchily stalking out.
Sean Rowan (!) is holed up in a hotel room, watching news footage of when Alexis told reporters that her husband is dead. He grins at the TV and mockingly asks, "Is he?"
Later, Sean sneaks into Alexis's hotel suite [which apparently Alexis took no security precautions to keep him out of, despite there being no definitive proof that he was actually dead] and tiptoes around the living room. He pulls out his gun, attaches a silencer, then quietly makes his way into the (empty) bedroom. A few seconds later, Alexis returns home after walking her adorable Shih Tzu, who immediately senses Sean's evil presence and races over to the bedroom door and starts growling and scratching the door. A puzzled Alexis is about to investigate the source of her pooch's displeasure when Dex drops by to tell her that Sean was reportedly spotted in Nairobi last week. Alexis dismisses that claim and says she's continuing to cling to the theory that he died on the oil tanker after it exploded. A skeptical Dex is like, "Mmm...not", but then brushes off his immediate concern about Sean posing any kind of threat and invites her to lunch. Alexis happily accepts, then heads into her bedroom to do something or other and finds her window wide open. I'll take this to mean that Sean climbed out of it...and, assuming that this penthouse suite would be on an upper floor, somehow didn't plunge to his death in the process.
Sammy Jo heads over to the mansion to discuss Jeff's marriage proposal with Krystle...and Krystle's all, "Wha-a-a? Didn't he just divorce Fallon?" [right??] and warns that their coupling could cause some pretty awkward moments at family gatherings. She urges Sammy Jo to give this relationship more time to develop, accept the fact that Fallon will likely be a constant presence in their lives, but then just do whatever feels right. Krystle suddenly gets another debilitating headache and starts rubbing her temple...and when Sammy Jo asks her whaddup with that, she breezily assures her niece that she's just fine.
Leslie drops by Alexis's suite to beg her forgiveness for hitting the sheets with Sean - but Alexis coldly tells her there's no room at ColbyCo for a company tramp. Leslie whimpers that she was manipulated by Sean, to which Alexis murmurs, "Weren't we all?" then decides that Company Slut best describes Leslie's skanky skillset. She then screams at her to get out, and Leslie tears up as she beats a hasty retreat. [It remains unclear why Leslie doesn't stop debasing herself about her ColbyCo job and just go back to working with Dex on the pipeline project.]
"I'm demoting you to Company Whore."
"I'd much prefer Resident Strumpet."
Election night! As the results come in, it's clear that Blake has a commanding lead in urban areas. As Alexis grimly watches the election coverage, Russ Kelton suggests they head over to her campaign headquarters and cobble together a concession speech - in the likely event that she'll lose. Alexis declines and nonsensically says she's never conceded defeat in her life.
That evening, Blake intercepts Adam at the courthouse before he can make an ass of himself by personally imploring the judge to award him custody of Nameless Baby Boy. Blake warns that this kind of behavior isn't going to help his cause, urges him to just sit back and let the judge make the decision, and assures him he'll offer him all of his support. Adam takes a deep breath, chillaxes, and agrees to not confront the judge.
Later, Blake and Krystle watch the election coverage. Bill Cochran warns Blake that, despite his significant lead, the election isn't over.
Dex drops by Alexis's suite to cluck sympathetically about her losing so badly to Blake, then wankingly adds that he's proud of the way she gave the two male candidates a run for their money. He then draws her to him and reminds her of all the good times they've had...and after a smooch, she chucklingly marvels about how full of surprises he is today. She then tells him she'd like them to head over to Carrington manor to congratulate Blake on winning the governorship.
Back at the mansion, Steven drops the bombshell on Fallon that Jeff has just proposed to Sammy Jo, and Fallon's all, "Say wuh?" She tears up and says she figured that Jeff would one day end up with someone else...she just didn't think it would be before the ink on their divorce papers had barely had a chance to dry.
Blake enters one of the mansion's sitting rooms and finds Adam binge-drinking. Adam thanks him for his earlier words of encouragement...and when Blake asks him where Dana is, he fibs and says she's lying down 'cause she's not feeling well.
Bill Cochran tells Blake that, in all likelihood, he will be Colorado's next governor - but Blake reminds him that only 40% of the votes have been tallied. A few seconds later, Alexis and Dex arrive to offer their congratulations...and Blake applauds her for putting up "one helluva fight", and she graciously concedes as the two amiably shake hands.
"I'm basking in my imminent victory."
"Soak it up, Blake."
At the hospital, Karen and Jesse ask the nurse if she wouldn't mind letting them visit Nameless Baby Boy, and the nurse is all 'sure, I'd be happy to bend the rules for you' and then ambles off somewhere.
Blake pokes his head into Adam's bedroom and is puzzled to see that Adam is nowhere to be found.
The nurse ushers Karen and Jesse over to the nursery...and is mystified to see that Nameless Baby Boy is gone. As a panicked Karen asks, "Where is my baby?!", the nurse mutters that she just fed the tot half an hour ago. Jesse yells at her to do something...and after she runs out to alert security, Karen grows hysterical and wails that she's leaping to the conclusion that Adam has ruthlessly snatched her baby. Er, their baby.

Karen brings a visual aid to court
Original airdate: 3/9/1988
Episode summary: Blake is cleared of any connection to Sean's gun-running operation in Natumbe. Leslie makes a move on Jeff, but he makes it clear he's not into her. Dana decides she's no longer interested in raising Adam's/Karen's surrogate baby.
Blake is on the phone with a major campaign donor, Dan Ferguson, imploring him to not believe the headline in today's paper: Blake Carrington Involved in Gun-Running Episode. He asks Dan if he's ever done anything to make anyone believe he's a gun-runner, and Dan's like, "Whatever. I'm out" and abruptly ends the call. A dismayed Krystle points out to Blake that he's the one who discovered the weaponry aboard his tanker, and he ruefully retorts that this negative press only serves to provide his opponents with a juicy story that makes him look like a terrible future governor. Krystle says that if Alexis had any decency she would use her newspaper to print the more accurate story, but Blake just kind of shakes his head helplessly as if to say 'in what world would such a thing happen?'
Over at the Carlton Hotel, Alexis admits to Dex that, for whatever insanely out-of-character reason, she married Sean without actually getting to know him...then calls her marriage "a tragic choice", and says it kinda hurts that Sean never really cared about her. Dex assures her she'll find love again, then leans in and stares at her longingly before the two indulge in a warm hug. Alexis purrs, "Ooooh Dex", but then makes it clear that she's not into the two of them reconnecting just yet.
At the hospital, Karen and Jesse remind Dana that she's not supposed to be anywhere near the maternity ward (as per their restraining order). Dana implores Karen to change her mind about reneging on the surrogacy agreement - but Jesse snappishly insists that Karen is not changing her mind about "our son", which prompts Dana to blurt out, "Your son? Who the hell do you think you are?" Karen whimpers that she didn't intend for things to turn out this way, and Dana coldly reminds her of all the times she had gone out of her way to assure her and Adam that they'd for sure be getting the baby once it was born. Karen weakly retorts that a baby is supposed to bring joy to people's lives, and Dana responds by shooting her a stink-eye before angrily stalking off.
Morgan Hess drops by Alexis's suite to drop another bombshell: he learned that Sean was responsible for Jesse Atkinson's return to Denver, and that he egged him on to instigate a custody battle between Karen and Adam/Dana. Alexis stares back at him in horrified dismay, says she needs cold hard proof that can be presented in a court of law, then vows that Sean isn't going to get away with trying to hurt her son.
Custody hearing! As Adam's lawyer (William Todd) cross-examines Karen, he asks her if her signature is on the surrogacy agreement. She admits it is...and that, yeah, she also had a lawyer explain that it meant she was fully expected to give up her child. Her lawyer (Gloria Wilby) invokes the issue of informed consent and whether or not Karen had a 100% full awareness of the possible consequences of signing away her baby. Karen wails that she didn't know she'd change her mind about giving up the baby and cries, "How can anyone knooooooow?!" William asks the judge to formally admonish the idiot, to which Gloria nonsensically argues, "Karen Atkinson admits to understanding the terms of contract, but she had no way of knowing what the contract would mean until after she had the baby." [Say wuh?] William snidely retorts that Karen is clearly taking advantage of Adam and Dana, to which Gloria pronounces that this case is all about a rich family without morals who is attempting to purchase a baby. Adam screeches, "That's a damn lie!" and rightly points out that the child in question is biologically his. The judge chides him for his outburst, then declares a recess until later in the afternoon.
"Karen signed the contract of her own free will."
"Yes, but I didn't equate signing the contract to actually having to follow the contract."
Over in the Carlton Hotel lounge, Jeff calls Sammy Jo (who's still in Los Angeles) to share that he's feeling glum 'cause he got his divorce papers today. After the call, Leslie wanders over and kind of perks up when she learns of his newly divorced status.
Later, Leslie calls the mansion and asks for Jeff - but Krystle informs her that he moved out, then gives her the address of his new apartment. After the call, Krystle suddenly looks faint, then sits down and rubs her head while moaning, "My God.."
Leslie is packing up her stuff when Dex returns home. She thanks him for his help - but now wants to pursue a relationship with newly single Jeff, who likely wouldn't approve of the two of them shacking up together. Dex is like, "Whatever - just don't ever use me again", and Leslie says she's gonna go full guns a' blazing after the guy she's really into...and advises him to follow his heart's desire by putting some effort into wooing Alexis back.
Jeff has just emerged from the shower when the doorbell rings...and he slips into a bathrobe and is soon dumbfounded to find Leslie standing on his doorstep with several suitcases. When she gaily announces that she's moving in, he blurts out, "Are you crazy?" and says that her bizarre assumption that she'd be welcome to live with him makes absolutely no sense. Leslie explains that since he's divorced, they can now be together - but Jeff informs her that he has enough complications in his life and doesn't need another. He goes on to make it painfully clear that their hookup in New York was nice, but "not real" ... so she stupidly argues that that's 'cause he never let it be real, and thinks that his bad reaction to her presence in his apartment right now is the result of her "coming on too strong". Jeff takes a deep breath and tells her in no uncertain terms that there is no future for them - now, ever, and for all of eternity - and Leslie finally lets the reality of Jeff's complete disinterest in any kind of relationship with her penetrate her tiny brain as she contorts her face into a sad expression. She nonsensically describes her idiotic behavior as "a failure to communicate", then gathers up her suitcases and bids Jeff a tearful goodbye.
"Our relationship is a figment of your wild imagination."
"I will translate that to mean I should try to make my imagination run less wild."
When Jesse is called to the stand, he testifies that Adam paid him 100K to leave Denver - but then he returned the money when Karen got upset and said she didn't want anything to do with the payoff. William surmises that Jesse's sole motivation during all of this surrogacy drama has been to either get rich or win his wife back, and that the only two people who have wanted the surrogate baby from the get-go have been Adam and Dana.
Fallon is on the phone in Steven's office, desperately trying to track down Harry Thresher, who seems to have disappeared. When Steven enters the room, she tells him she can't locate Thresher, aka the one person who could clear Blake's good name. Steven chews on that for a few seconds and points out that a man like Harry wouldn't just walk away and leave everything he owns behind...then reminds her that they have less than a week (before the gubernatorial election) to sort it all out. Steven calls his pilot to fuel the corporate jet for an impromptu trip to Natumbe - and Fallon tells him she's already arranged the flight, and that it looks as though the two of them will be making the trip together.
While Adam is on the stand, Gloria reminds the court that, in a typical adoption, the mother has the right to change her mind about wanting to give up the baby. Adam rightly argues that this situation is not a typical adoption, given that the baby is biologically his. A few seconds later, Morgan Hess slips into the courtroom to show Alexis the documentation he dug up that proves Jesse came to Denver with the purpose of instigating a custody feud. When Alexis blurts out these findings, Jesse looks sheepish...and Karen shoots him the stink-eye before she gets up, heads for the exit, and glares at the Carringtons while vowing, "None of you are going to get my baby!"
While strolling through a luxury car show, Adam tells Alexis he has a funny feeling that Dana doesn't want the baby as much as he does - but then says he's optimistic that the two of them will somehow work it out. Alexis rolls her eyes in general disapproval of Dana, then assures him she's more than ready to fight for him and his yet unnamed baby.
Jeff saunters into campaign headquarters and tells Blake he heard about Dan Ferguson withdrawing his support 'cause of the gun-running/Natumbe scandal. Jeff tells Blake he feels bad about how rudely he spoke to him after the Denver Carrington stock buy-up, and that he's always thought of him and the whole Carrington clan as his own family. Blake assures him that he'll always be considered family, then invites him to return as campaign manager. Jeff looks touched, leans in for a hug, and immediately gets back to work.
Over at the hospital, Dana is staring at the surrogate baby through the nursery window. She tells Krystle (who's standing behind her) that she hopes the tot never learns about this ugly custody feud. She then stammers about how she thought she had the solution to her sterility all figured out - but now feels as though some force is trying to tell her that it isn't the right thing for her to be doing. Krystle advises her to tell Adam that she's having second thoughts about pursuing custody of the baby, and Dana responds by staring contemplatively into space.
"Mystical forces are telling me that raising a baby with Adam would be a very bad idea."
"Honey, that's just your common sense finally kicking in."
Across the globe in Natumbe, Fallon and Steven are meeting with Minister Kotey, trying to persuade him to release information that can clear Blake's good name. Kotey tells them that the investigation is proceeding at a glacial pace 'cause apparently a number of higher-ups in the government were involved in Sean's/Harry's gun-running scandal...and so he will release all of his findings probably in the distant future. Steven's like, "But the gubernatorial election is in a few days!" (lol) and implores him to cut through the red tape. Kotey mulls that over, and quickly decides that because of the enormous amount of respect he has for Blake, he's going to call the Prime Minister to see how big of a shit this world leader cares about helping Blake become Colorado's next governor.
Karen returns to the courtroom with her baby cradled in her arms, and explains to the judge that she thought it was important for him to get a gander at the tot before he rules on who should get custody. She lifts the infant and barks, "Look at him!" and ambles towards the judge, chiding him and the lawyers for being overly focused on contracts, consent, and money. She wails, "What gives you the right to take a child from its mother?" and needlessly points out that she was the one who carried him for nine months. The judge looks less than impressed and warns her to get herself under control...and to maybe let her lawyer appropriately represent her while she's in his courtroom.
"What gives you the right to decide where my baby lives?"
"Mmm...my legal authority as a state appointed judge..?"
Back at Carrington manor, Fallon and Steven proudly present Blake with all of the documentation needed to clear him of any kind of gun-running scandal. [I guess the Prime Minister did give a big shit about Blake's political career.] As Blake and Jeff excitedly discuss how to get the word out about his innocence before voters hit the polling stations, Krystle suddenly gets another debilitating headache and has to sit down.
Steven drops by Alexis's hotel suite to inform her that he and Fallon went to Natumbe to get Blake cleared of the gun-running scandal, and Alexis says she would have been much happier about this if he'd been exonerated after the election (heh). Steven then tells her that the body officials found in Natumbe (wearing the watch she had gifted Sean) was identified as Harry Thresher, and that he had been shot in the head. Alexis is all, "Wha-a-a-at?" and says she's worried that her demented scoundrel of a husband is still alive.
Adam tells Dana he's moving out of their bedroom 'cause he's too mad about what she said in court. He angrily says, "I can't look at you. I can't live with you, knowing what you've done."
A Q&A Magazine reporter runs into Dex at the Carlton Hotel and says he has a lot of questions about Sean Rowan, and how his marriage to Alexis is negatively impacting her run for governor. Dex irritably makes it clear he's not interested in providing dirt and refuses to comment, and the reporter says he fully intends to write the story regardless.
Dex drops by Alexis's suite to tell her she should drop out of the race, not least 'cause it's ruining her life by making her an assassin's target, and more recently a target of the media. Alexis rejects the prospect of dropping out and insists that she's going after what she wants, and implores him to not fight her on this. After Dex leaves, Alexis gets a phone call from someone who just breathes heavily...and on the other end we see that the call is coming from an empty red telephone booth. Alexis cries, "Sean? Sean? Is that you?"

Adam is thrilled to finally learn that he's a full-fledged Carrington
Original airdate: 3/2/1988
Episode summary: Blake and Dex travel to Natumbe to look into Sean's shenanigans. Jeff and Sammy Jo formally decide they're a couple. Adam finally learns that he is a biological Carrington.
At the hospital, an irked Adam reminds Jesse that Karen entered into the surrogacy agreement with him/Dana of her own free will, then imperiously declares, "That child is a Carrington." Jesse snorts derisively and tells Adam to get off his high horse 'cause he knows for a fact that he's an adopted Carrington, which isn't the same as a blood Carrington...and then storms off just as Dana appears.
Blake drops by Dex's apartment, where a frightened Leslie has been hiding out. She tells Blake that Dex is over at the pipeline job site, then shares everything she knows about Sean: he's likely skimming Natumbe oil profits for his own benefit, and is violent, dangerous, and really fucking weird. Blake chews on that for a few seconds, then urges her to stay hidden at Dex's apartment for her own safety.
Blake heads over to Denver Carrington to discuss The Sean Issue with Fallon and Steven. Fallon laments her stupidity in favoring the Vitron Oil deal, and Steven - who's uncharacteristically non-dickish today - points out that he too was fooled enough to sign off on the deal, with no inkling that it was all just a scam. He says he should prolly stop making payments to Vitron Oil - but Blake urges him to first come up with some kind of logical excuse so that Sean doesn't get unnecessarily spooked.
Across the country in Los Angeles, Sammy Jo and Jeff agree that their night together between the sheets was fan-fucking-tastic. Sammy Jo continues to describe their hookup as a one night stand, and makes clear that she doesn't want to do anything to hurt Fallon. Jeff agrees that, no, that wouldn't be a good thing - but yet still wants the two of them to couple up. Sammy Jo mulls that over and decides she wants that too, and the two indulge in a smoochfest.
Blake calls Captain Nordstrom, aka the man who was recently put in charge of the Carrington oil tanker that's currently docked in Natumbe. Nordstrom assures Blake that everything is A-OK, and that whatever leaks he detected on the ship have been fully sealed and repaired. After the call, Blake tells Dex he sensed something slightly amiss in the tone of captain's voice, and strongly feels as though he needs to go to Natumbe to see whassup with that whole situation. Dex offers to tag along 'cause he suspects that Harry Thresher is up to no good, and Blake agrees that that's a good idea...and the two arrange to meet up on Blake's private jet later that evening.
"The captain's tone didn't sound completely fully 100% normal to me."
"Sounds like we both need to fly halfway across the world to look into it."
Over at Carrington manor, Blake explains to Krystle that he has no choice but to jet to Natumbe so that he can fully grasp whatever weird nefariousness is going on with Sean, who appears to want revenge for his father's suicide and his sister's humiliating exit from Denver. He smooches Krystle goodbye and heads out.
Back at the Carlton Hotel, Sean is opening a bottle of champagne when Blake calls to covertly inform Alexis that he and Dex are off to Natumbe to look into whatever shady shit Sean's been involved in. He urges her to be careful with her psychotic husband, and to avoid revealing that he and Dex are on the hunt for clues about his nefariousness. Alexis cleverly avoids arousing any suspicion with Sean by barking back at Blake that she's not dropping out of the race, and then slams the phone down. Sean hands her a drink, and the two agree that they'd love nothing more than to spend the evening canoodling in front of the fire.
Disgraced former congressman Neal McVane drops by campaign headquarters to tell Krystle that Blake has a good chance of winning the gubernatorial election. He boasts about how he has a lot of influence in Colorado and is willing to help Blake...and when Krystle asks him what he expects in return [which seems like a totally reasonable question], he gets weirdly prickly and bitchily storms off.
Over breakfast, Alexis presents Sean with an expensive new watch that has the engraving With undying love, Alexis. Sean studies the engraving and tells her that the word undying was the perfect thing to carve into it. He then kisses her cheek and heads off to ColbyCo.
"You have no idea how ironic it is that you engraved the word undying onto my watch."
"Oh I have some idea, weirdo."
Dana enters Karen's hospital room - just as the nurse is whisking the baby back to the nursery. Karen laments how much she wishes she could ease this unhappy situation for her, and Dana's like, "You can. It's our baby." She suggests that Jesse has been urging her to renege on the surrogacy agreement - but Karen denies that and says she simply decided she isn't willing to give up her child...and hopes that she, Adam, and God can one day forgive her.
Alexis arrives at ColbyCo and learns from her secretary that Sean left the building in what looked like a hurry.
After talking to Krystle, Adam drops by Neil McVane's hotel room to demand the identity of the prison inmate who once revealed that he was baby Adam Carrington's kidnapper. After some obligatory hemming and hawing, Neil relents and tells Adam that the man is a lifer by the name of Charlie Braddock.
Adam promptly heads over to the prison to pay Charlie Braddock a visit. On his side of the wire mesh window, Adam holds up a tiny pair of blue booties and asks Charlie if 1) they belonged to the kidnapped baby, and 2) if the baby died before a ransom could be collected - an earlier claim Charlie had made. Charlie clams up for a few seconds, but then decides 'why do I still give a hoot about a decades-old kidnapping?' and tells Adam that he used to be good friends with Ma Torrence, who was devastated after she lost her entire family in a car crash. In a horribly misguided effort to ease her pain, he kidnapped the first unattended baby he could find so that she'd have someone to love and care for. He confesses that his claim that the kidnapped baby had died (before a ransom could be requested) was bullshit...then shoots Adam a dramatically intense stare as he pronounces, "You are Adam Carrington."
"Are these really my booties?"
"Your booties? You betcha!"
That evening, Alexis calls Carrington manor to inform Krystle that Sean has disappeared, and to urge her to get in touch with Blake asap and warn him that Sean might be en route to Natumbe. After the call, Morgan Hess drops by Alexis's suite to tell her he "hit pay dirt" and learned that Sean is an ex-pilot-turned-mercenary who's wanted by the Irish authorities for killing a police officer, and is also a prime suspect in a terrorist kidnapping that occurred in Madrid. As Alexis visibly pales, Morgan warns that her husband is a very dangerous guy.
Across the globe in Natumbe, Captain Nordstrom gives Blake a full progress report on the tanker's fixed leak, then assures him that it's fully loaded with crude oil. Blake and Dex thank him and wish him a safe trip...and once they're out of earshot, Captain Nordstrom hurriedly calls Harry Thresher to warn him that Blake and Dex are in Natumbe and might possibly be onto their scam. He anxiously tells Harry he can't endure another fall from grace and implores him to not abandon him, and Harry calmly urges him not to panic and promises to take care of the situation.
During a phone conversation, Steven informs Blake that Sean has gone missing and might already be in Natumbe. After the call, Blake passes along to Dex the intel that Steven uncovered: the original captain disappeared from his home port weeks ago, and this Captain Nordstrom was recommended by Harry Thresher. Dex suggests they go to the Natumbeian authorities with their findings, but Blake points out that highly placed government officials might too be in on the Vitron Oil deal scam. Dex concedes that strong possibility, and the two decide to head back to the ship and independently poke around.
Harry is in his office, packing up big bundles of cash from his safe, when Sean suddenly appears in the doorway of his office and wryly asks, "Business trip, Harry?" Harry nervously tells him that Blake and Dex are in town, and that he's pretty sure they're onto their oil deal scheme...then weakly assures Sean that he was about to call him. Sean coldly confirms that he knows for a fact Blake is onto him, expresses doubt that Harry would have given him a heads up, and stonily warns, "If I go down, I take everyone with me."
"Oh hi. I was just transferring large bundles of cash to my briefcase for no particular reason."
"I will let this evil stink-eye be my retort to your unforgivable disloyalty."
Later, Blake calls Alexis to inform her that his tanker was just blown up and that he can only assume Sean was aboard at the time and perished. He explains that a body, which was burned beyond recognition, was found with a watch on one wrist that had the inscription With undying love, Alexis. Alexis processes the news of her husband's presumed death by scrunching her face into a semi-mournful expression.
The camera pans over to the dark water, where Sean, who is still very much alive, is energetically swimming towards the dock.

Karen cancels the surrogacy agreement
Original airdate: 2/10/1988
Episode summary: Alexis confronts Sean about her suspicions that he's been unfaithful to her. Jeff resigns his role as Blake's campaign manager. Karen births a son and tells Adam and Dana that she's changed her mind about giving him up.
Adam learns that Jesse is still in Denver and is worried about him giving the briefcase o' cash back - but Dana points out that it's all for the best, 'cause the money was a black cloud. Adam argues that Jesse is the black cloud hovering over them, putting their surrogacy agreement with Karen at risk. He stares worriedly into space and says he's very upset that he could lose "my child, conceived with seed from my body". Ew. He declares that he'll be damned if he lets that happen, then abruptly storms out of the bedroom.
Leslie enters Sean's office and asks him if he's seen the bracelet Alexis gave her, then recalls in real time that she was wearing it in his/Alexis's hotel suite the night he got all date-rapey with her. Leslie contorts her face into a look of horror and wails, "She's onto us!" and Sean angrily orders her to shut it - otherwise he might just terrorize her with another scary reptile. Leslie's all, "Ack!" and calmly assures him that she's going to take a deep breath and do her best to chillax.
"If you don't shut it, I'll go to the nearest toy store and buy the first rubber iguana I can find."
"Consider my mouth permanently zipped shut."
Over breakfast at Carrington manor, Blake tells Jeff he's disappointed by the sneaky manner in which he bought up all that Denver Carrington stock. Jeff points out that he needed to light a fire under Steven's ass to get the pipeline project moving again, then contritely offers to resign as his gubernatorial campaign manager. Blake mulls that over and decides that, yeah, it's prolly for the best.
Alexis flounces over to Sean's office, tosses the bracelet (she gifted to Leslie) at him, and snippily tells him she found it under their bed. Sean mutters, "That's bizarre..", then asks her if she's insinuating that he's cheating on her. She's like, "Uh yeah..?", and he denies the allegation and weakly attempts to turn the tables by counter-insinuating that she's the one who's been cheating...on him with Blake during out-of-town campaign events. Alexis makes a seriously? face at the ridiculous accusation and asks again how Leslie's bracelet got under their bed. Sean recalls that the night she (Alexis) was shot, Leslie was at the suite, hurriedly putting away various documents and valuables in the safe for safekeeping...and suggests that perhaps she dropped the bracelet during that chaos. Alexis decides that that sounds at least somewhat plausible and apologizes for accusing him of cheating, and he declines to accept her apology and bitchily storms out of the room. [Please let this be the last time we ever hear about Leslie's fucking bracelet.]
Over in a Delta Rho meadow, Steven tells Sammy Jo he continues to be annoyed that she went to Jeff (instead of him) for financial help, and asks her if there's something more than just a platonic friendship going on between her and Jeff. Sammy Jo snappishly retorts that that's none of his business, then climbs atop her horse and gallops off.
At campaign headquarters, Blake tells a puzzled Krystle that he had no choice but to accept Jeff's resignation as campaign manager, 'cause of the underhanded manner in which he went behind everyone's back to buy up a shit ton of Denver Carrington stock. He then wonders if his three idiot children are actually capable of running the company, and worries that their incessant bickering is going to ultimately destroy it. Krystle's all, "Nooooo" and assures him that they love him too much to ever let him down like that.
Krystle returns to the mansion and finds Dana looking over some of Kristina's old baby things. Dana asks Krystle if she might borrow the christening gown, and Krystle scrunches her face concernedly and wonders aloud if maybe she's being premature in assuming that Karen is actually truly 100% going to hand over the baby to her and Adam. Dana irritably insists she will, and that she's also getting really really tired of Adam's constant (though well founded) predictions of doom.
"Adam and I are definitely getting custody of Karen's baby."
"You keep believing that."
Jeff drops by Delta Rho to invite Sammy Jo to dinner. At first she declines, then hems and haws about how she should maybe put the brakes on their partnership, 'cause of how sourly Steven is reacting to it. After mulling it over a few seconds more, she decides she actually doesn't give too much of a fuck what Steven thinks, and happily accepts Jeff's dinner invitation.
Adam drops by Karen's house and is annoyed to find Jesse there. Jesse tells him that Karen (and Dana) went out for a walk, and Adam snarlingly asks him if he's going to demand more money in order to keep the surrogacy agreement intact. Jesse says he won't, then angrily orders Adam to get the hell out...and then a pair of stunt doubles step in and start punching and shoving each other across the living room. When Karen and Dana return from their walk, one of the stunt doubles accidentally crashes into Karen and shoves her into a sofa chair, which in turn prompts her to moan that she's suddenly in the throes of labor. Adam, Jess, and Dana are all, "Ack!" and rush her to the hospital, stat.
Later, in the hospital waiting room, Jesse blames Adam for Karen's (premature?) labor, and that he wants him out of his life asap. Adam reminds the dumb-dumb that Karen agreed to act as a surrogate and is carrying his child...and Dana enters the room a few seconds later to announce that Karen is expected to deliver the baby any time.
Jeff and Sammy Jo are in Malibu to attend a horse auction...and during some down time, the two stroll together along the beach. Jeff applauds her for doing so amazingly well at the auction, and the two splash around the water and playfully chase each other around - until they plunk themselves onto the sand and indulge in some light foreplay.
Fourteen hours later, the obstetrician enters the hospital waiting room to inform Adam, Dana, and Jesse that Karen has just delivered a baby boy...and that both are doing fine. The doctor invites the father to get a first look at the infant, and Adam's all, "Hot diggity!" and excitedly rushes off to meet his spawn.
In the next scene, Adam and Dana are standing behind the glass of the nursery, staring happily at the (rather large) newborn that's being presented to them by one of the nurses. Adam breathily promises the baby he'll always protect him and that nothing will ever separate them.
"Aw, look at what my seed created."
"Soak it up, dude."
Sean lets himself into Leslie's suite at the Carlton Hotel, where she's penning a resignation letter. Sean points out that if she resigns from ColbyCo, Alexis will know for sure that they've been having an affair. He reminds her of how close she came to being bitten by the (rubber) snake during the previous episode, then makes it clear that he's the one calling the shots about her life decisions. She reacts by staring back at him in mute terror.
The next day, Dex tells Leslie that she can have her old job back - but she tells him she's decided to stay on at ColbyCo. He notices how visibly rattled she looks and asks her whassup, so she confesses her affair with Sean and that Alexis is very suspicious...which means she can't leave ColbyCo, 'cause then Alexis will definitely put two and two together. She adds that Sean is a psycho-nut who recently tried to kill her, and that she knows something personal about him that's sure to destroy his marriage.
Jesse visits Karen (who's still in her hospital bed) and tearfully apologizes for accidentally shoving her earlier and thereby bringing about her (premature?) labor. He reminds her again that she's the baby's bio mom, declares his deep love for her, and begs her to give their marriage another chance.
Back in California, Jeff drops by Sammy Jo's hotel room to invite her to dinner at Spago. He then invokes their earlier smoochfest on the beach, and Sammy Jo kisses him and says she no longer has any doubts about hooking up with him...and the two fall atop the bed and indulge in some amorous action.
Dex drops by Alexis's hotel suite to tell her about the suspiciously half-empty cargo ship that has departed Natumbe...then drops the bombshell (he just learned from Leslie) that Sean is the son of Joseph Anders, and that it looks as though he's out to avenge his father's suicide and the manner in which she (Alexis) forced Kirby to leave Denver. As Alexis stares back at Dex in stunned incredulity, he surmises, "He married you to destroy you" ... and somehow refrains from remarking how out of character it was for her to have so blindly trusted a man she barely knew enough to marry him.
"Sean is the demented son of Joseph Anders."
"Do you mean to tell me that I've been bedding the son of a majordomo moron?"

Sean's descent into madness takes a sharp nosedive
Original airdate: 2/3/1988
Episode summary: Sean gets so annoyed at Leslie's demands that he threatens to kill her with a poisonous snake. Jesse stirs up trouble with Karen's surrogacy agreement. Alexis resumes her gubernatorial campaign.
Russ Kelton arrives at Alexis's suite to inform her that a group of reporters [with nothing better to do today] is downstairs, anxiously awaiting a statement from her regarding her campaign. Alexis dismissively tells him she's not in the mood to talk to them - but Russ strongly advises her to continue to foster a good relationship with the press in order to maintain her popularity. Alexis mulls that over and agrees that, yes, staying on the media's good side is probably a wise strategic move.
Krystle urges Blake to cancel his upcoming appearance at the State Bar Convention in Vail 'cause of how afraid she is for his safety. He tells her he's not willing to live in fear, assures her he'll be just fine with the added security, and reminds her that he has a campaign to run.
Alexis decides 'why not deck myself out in a luxurious fur trimmed coat and silky hat ensemble for my press conference?', which turns out to be more of a Q&A wankery on the hotel's staircase about how courageous she is for returning to her campaign so soon after suffering a bullet grazing. She wryly tells the press that nearly getting shot wasn't part of her political strategy, but that nonetheless she's determined to forge ahead and win the election. She then says she's off to Vail for a conference, and flounces off with Russ Kelton in tow.
"You are the bravest, most awesomest candidate we've ever had the privilege of fawning over."
"If I were a humble woman, I'd humbly thank you all."
Over lunch, Karen informs Dana that Jesse is back in town, and that technically they're still married. Dana looks alarmed by that and worries aloud that his presence is going to impact the surrogacy, wailing about how she and Adam don't have a legal agreement with Jesse...even though it remains unclear why they'd actually need one. Karen assures them that the baby belongs to her and Adam, and that she's determined to hand the tot over.
Dana tells Adam about Jesse's sudden reappearance in Karen's life. Adam scrunches his face concernedly and assumes that Jesse must be after something, and breathily vows to find out what that might be.
That evening, Karen arrives at Carrington manor to have dinner with Adam and Dana - and collapses a few seconds later. Adam races over to where she's laying and hovers over her uselessly while Dana rushes off to call the doctor.
Krystle calls Blake in blizzardy Vail to let him know about Karen's collapse - but that the doctor has assured them all that she's merely suffering from exhaustion. Blake tells her he'll be home as soon as the snow storm lifts.
Later, Karen wakes up with Adam and Dana nervously hovering over her, with a nurse on standby. Adam tells her she fainted last night, but that she's OK...and when Karen suddenly looks panicked about her daughters' whereabouts, Dana tells her they're downstairs and perfectly safe, playing with Kristina. A few seconds later, a hapless Gerard is unable to stop Jesse from bursting into the room and insisting that he needs to take Karen home asap. Adam snappishly retorts that she's staying at Carrington manor until the doctor gives her the OK to return home...and the two bicker back and forth until Dana tells them to take it outside, 'cause it's stressing Karen out. The men dutifully shut it and agree to meet up tomorrow during Adam's morning run.
Across the globe in Natumbe, Sean is increasingly bored with Leslie's constant hand-wringing about whether or not Alexis knows they're bumping uglies. Leslie bitchily decrees that if she's going down, she's dragging him down with her...then demands specifics about the Vitron deal. When he declines to reveal anything, she haughtily warns, "You can't afford to ignore me" ... so Sean cryptically promises to tell her everything she needs to know before they return to Denver.
Back in Vail, Alexis runs into Blake in the hotel lobby and offers a proposal: he should withdraw from the gubernatorial race and instead run for lieutenant governor. Blake stares back at her incredulously and says he's never heard anything so pompously ridiculous...and when she accuses him of not thinking she should be governor 'cause he's a big ol' sexist, he clarifies that he doesn't think she specifically has any business being governor.
Leslie returns to her Natumbe hotel room and finds a pretty gift, wrapped all in pink, atop her bed. She opens it and pulls out a slinky black negligee...and a few seconds later, a small black snake starts slithering of the box. Sean enters the room at that moment, tells Leslie not to move, then reaches out and grabs the snake...which by this point has been swapped out for a rubber toy snake. He ominously holds the toy snake inches from Leslie's face and tells her it's an African mamba, whose venom results in a slow, agonizing death. A terrified Leslie's all, "Ack!" and begs him to not hold the thing so close to her face...and tearfully promises to stop pestering him about their unsavory affair and/or needing to get a cut of the Vitron Oil deal.
"If this rubber snake doesn't terrify you, I have a whoopee cushion that'll do you in."
"Please no. I can't bear simulated farts."
During his morning run, Adam meets up with Jesse and offers to give him however much money he thinks he should get in exchange for taking a break from his marriage until well after the surrogate baby is born and the adoption papers have been signed.
Later at Carrington manor, Adam tells Dana he's pretty sure that Jesse won't be giving them any more trouble, given that he offered the man a bribe to leave town until well after the baby is firmly in their custody. Dana scrunches her face concernedly and says she's not sure that bribery is really the best way to go - but Adam argues it is if it gets Jesse out of their hair.
Steven and Fallon inform Adam (who missed the Denver Carrington board meeting 'cause of all the Jesse drama) that there's a serious problem: some unknown investor has made a huge purchase of Denver Carrington stock, and that it's making the stockholders nervous. Egads!
Over at Delta Rho, Sammy Jo tells Jeff she's reconsidered accepting his capital infusion and has decided instead to get a bank loan. When he's all, "Say wuh?", she explains that she hates the thought of always having to be rescued by him and would like to run the ranch independent of anyone else's personal cash. Jeff tells her he gave her the money 'cause he believes in her ability to run a horse farm - but also mostly 'cause he likes the cut of her jib. He then leans in for a kiss, shoots her a happy smile, and saunters off.
Jesse is in Adam's office, looking over a 'get lost until after the baby's born' contract that Adam has had drawn up. He explains to Jesse that the paper is a simple declaration guaranteeing that the baby couldn't possibly be is, and that he promises to not contact Karen until after the child is born. When Jesse says he's not sure he can agree to that, Adam opens his briefcase filled with stacks of cash, and urges him to think it over more carefully. Jesse looks longingly at the cash before grabbing the nearest pen to sign the contract. He then clutches the briefcase while beating a hasty retreat - just as Dana enters the room. She correctly assumes that Jesse has just been successfully bribed and unhappily tells Adam she feels as though they're buying a baby. Adam's like, "Well duh" and points out that that's basically what they've been doing in terms of funnelling cash directly to Karen since the minute she announced she had his bun in her oven.
Subtle, Adam
"Where do I sign?"
The next morning, Jesse tells Karen he's leaving town for a couple of months, and that he's working on a deal that will generate enough money for the rest of their lives. He opens the briefcase o' cash he got from Adam, and Karen's all, "Wha-a-a-at is that?" and assumes he obtained it illegally. She firmly says she wants nothing to do with it, then screeches at him to take his money and get out.
Back at the mansion, Blake finds Steven doing paperwork in the library and grumbles about how he's been getting non-stop phone calls from nervous stockholders about the major stock purchase by the unknown person. When he asks whassup with that and suggests that he should maybe get involved, Steven reminds him that he's now in charge...and that if his daddy shows up at the board meeting, it'll send the signal that there's no trust between them. Steven urges him to put his faith in his ability to run Denver Carrington, and Blake mulls that over, then shakes his hand and wishes him good luck at the meeting.
In the Carlton Hotel lobby, Alexis asks Sean if they made a mistake giving Leslie too much responsibility, and Sean says she seems to be doing fine - but then offers to demote her if need be. Alexis makes it clear that she no longer trusts Leslie, but is leaving it up to him to do whatever he thinks is best. Leslie, meanwhile, enters the lobby and is able to scurry past them unseen and joins Dex in the adjoining lounge. Looking rattled, she asks him if she can have her old job back and explains that she doesn't fit in at ColbyCo. Dex presses her on what exactly has changed, and she snaps, "Forget it!" and storms off.
Back at Denver Carrington, Steven, Fallon, and Adam are looking over the latest stock purchases that have been freaking out the stockholders as they wait for the "main players" so show themselves. Adam nervously points out that this new stock owner has enough clout to influence the board's decisions, and laments being out-manoeuvred. A few seconds later, Jeff makes his grand entrance and explains that he's the one who's been buying up so much Denver Carrington stock 'cause of how dismayed he's been by the mismanagement of the company/board when they let the pipeline deal get tanked. He then lays out his demands:
- A seat on the executive committee overseeing all pipeline operations
- The reinstatement of Dex as overlord of the pipeline project
- Steven should consider himself told to go pee up a rope for his dismal CEO-ing abilities
"I had to step in 'cause of your gross incompetence at managing the company."
"I prefer to think of it as bossing people around in a stupid manner."
Sean warns Jesse against playing both sides by making a deal with him and Adam, and Jesse insists he's not and gives Sean his money back. Sean orders him to finish the job, which translates to stay in Denver and fight for the custody of Karen's baby...adding that Karen will never forgive him if he allows Adam to take her baby away.
Sean returns to the Carlton Hotel suite looking angry and defeated. When he sees that Alexis is asleep in bed, he takes off his tie, clutches it in his hands as if he's ready to strangle his wife to death, and seethes, "No one gets away, Alexis. No one. Not even you."
Eeeeek!

Episode summary: Alexis survives Sean's sniper bullet and continues her quest to become Colorado's next governor. Jeff rescues Sammy Jo when she's attacked by a creepy admirer. Karen Atkinson is shocked by the return of her estranged husband.
Across the globe in Natumbe, Dex sneaks into Harry Thresher's office with a flashlight. He searches through desk drawers and file folders until he comes across a pile of photographs, some of which feature Harry and Sean from whenever they served together in some kind of military unit. Dex stares at it in fascination and mutters, "Bingo."
At Cheney Hospital, Jeff tells Blake it's quite possible that the bullet was meant for him, a theory with which Krystle agrees. Blake says he can't be 100% sure of that, and that right now Alexis's survival is the only thing that matters. A few seconds later, the doctor enters the room and tells Sean that Alexis was extremely lucky, 'cause apparently the bullet just grazed a tiny part of her forehead...and despite what seems like kind of a non-injury, he insists on keeping her overnight for observation.
Alexis is lying on her hospital bed with a small white bandage across the right side of her forehead when Sean enters the room, clasps her hand, and assures her she'll be fine. Alexis asks him if the police have found any suspects [answer: no], then laments what the world has come to, when a political campaign may have cost her her life. She worries that next time the shooter won't miss, then decides she should drop out of the race asap and go back to running ColbyCo. After that declaration, she weakly loses consciousness [? maybe the doctors gave her some potent painkillers] ... and Sean scrunches his face unhappily at her decision to no longer run for governor and storms out of the room.
"Next time the bullet might not just whizz past me."
"Oh, I'm fairly confident that next time the shooter will successfully hit his intended target."
Sean brings Leslie to his/Alexis's suite at the Carlton Hotel for a romp - but she tells him she's not into the creepy prospect of having sex with him in his wife's bed while she languishes in the hospital. An unfazed Sean gets all date-rapey and starts forcibly undressing her, and his roughness causes the bracelet she's wearing (aka the one Alexis gifted her) to slip off of her wrist and land unseen on the carpet. As Leslie continues to make clear that she does not want him to bone her right now, Sean growls, "Don't fight me. I need you tonight", then insists, "You want me just as much as I do." Leslie gets a reprieve when the phone suddenly rings and Sean has to rush into the living room to answer [Harry Thresher's return call]. She hastily puts her blouse back on, then eavesdrops on Sean telling Harry that they're going to have to change their plans and that he'll be overseeing the operation himself. As Sean finishes the call, Leslie blows him a kiss and rushes out of the suite while wondering aloud to herself what change of plans Sean could have been referring to.
Blake drops in on Alexis to make sure she's OK, and she looks visibly happy to see him. She admits to her fear of being a target and tells him she's definitely going to withdraw from the gubernatorial race. She says, now that she's out of the picture, surely he'll win the election...and jokingly requests that he throw at least one state dinner in her honor. Blake grinningly agrees, then urges her to get some rest.
Later, Gordon Wales drops by the hospital to return to Alexis the notes from her 'I'm withdrawing from the race' speech that were left scattered across the stage after her bullet grazing. He tells her he's decided not to write his article about the rumors swirling around her two minute marriage to Cecil just before his death, but rather the vast amount of public sympathy and concern that's been pouring in for her after the shooting. He wanks about how her popularity is at such a high that she could probably run for president, then urges her to stay in the gubernatorial race...jokingly adding that he likes the idea of having a direct pipeline to the frontrunner. Alexis chews on all that for a few seconds, then dramatically rips up her 'I'm withdrawing from the race' speech notes.
The next morning, Alexis's hospital room is filled with flowers from well-wishers. Sean briefly pops by to announce that he's off to Natumbe to personally handle the Vitron oil deal, then kisses her goodbye and exits. After that, Fallon and Steven pay her a visit and deliver the stack of mail she's received since the shooting...which includes a letter from the White House. A paparazzo suddenly sneaks into her room and snaps her photograph before Steven angrily hustles him out...and Fallon wryly remarks that the attempted assassination has made her front page news. Fallon and Steven urge their mother to get some rest, and they head out - just as Russ Kelton arrives. He tells Alexis that he had arranged for the paparazzo to take her picture just now...and when Alexis looks miffed at being exploited during a moment of vulnerability, he says he figured she'd be wanting to maximize the massive amount of sympathy she's been enjoying since last night. He then tells her that the public largely considers her a heroine after taking a bullet for the opposing candidate, and that she really can win the election...and she responds by looking contemplatively intrigued.
"You getting shot in the head was the best thing that could have happened to this campaign."
"In that case, I welcome any amount of personal exploitation you can subject me to."
At Delta Rho, Dana tells Sammy Jo she's worried about Karen's sudden mood change after that phone call...and can't help being concerned that Karen is going to change her mind about wanting to hand over the surrogate baby (to her and Adam) after it's born.
Karen is milling around her backyard when her ex-husband Jesse suddenly appears holding a pair of dolls to give as gifts to their daughters. Karen angrily tells him she doesn't want him around when the girls come home from school, then explains that she's pregnant 'cause she figured the best way to make a whole lot of cash without getting a job was to enter into a surrogacy arrangement with a wealthy family. She chides him for failing to make child support payments for the last year and snarks that she didn't even know he was back in the country. Jesse contritely says he came back to the U.S. 'cause of how much he missed her and the girls - but Karen sourly says she doesn't buy it and reminds him that they're divorced. Jesse's like, "Er, about that.." and informs her that since he never actually signed the papers they're not technically divorced...and Karen stares at him in stunned incredulity when he declares them still married, and that he never stopped loving her.
Back at the hospital, Alexis is transported to a room via a wheelchair [despite that fact that her legs probably work just fine] where the press has gathered to cover her impromptu press conference. She tells the reporters she's angry at the senseless violence she was just a victim of - but is also very touched by the outpouring of love and support she's received from the public.
Over at campaign headquarters, Blake tells Krystle that he's assuming the purpose of Alexis's press conference is to formally announce her withdrawal from the gubernatorial race - but when they turn on the TV, they're dismayed when they hear Alexis gabbling about how the people of Colorado deserve to have a strong leader, and that she's determined to stay in the race and win the election. Krystle looks visibly miffed and says she doesn't believe that Alexis ever intended to withdraw, then asks Bill Cochran if they can use Cecil's original will to throw dirt at her. Bill tells her he wouldn't advise it, not least 'cause Alexis has gained a lot of public sympathy after her bullet grazing. Blake points out that she still has a big fight ahead of her, and that he's confident he'll come out the winner.
At Delta Rho, Sammy Jo is on the phone with her banker, discussing her foolhardy decision to borrow too much money against her assets. Jeff drops by (to pick up Little Blake, who's still horseback riding with Danny) and asks Sammy Jo whaddup with her downbeat mood. Sammy Jo admits that she took a huge financial risk buying more horses - just before the horse market went soft. Jeff offers to infuse some fresh capital into her failing ranch and expresses optimism that he'll somehow get a great return on his investment, and then he and a grateful Sammy Jo shake on it.
Dex meets up with Jeff at the Carlton Hotel to discuss the inert pipeline project. Jeff reminds Dex that Colby Enterprises has a lot of dough invested in the pipeline, really really wants him back on the project, and asks what it'll take to convince him to resume this work. Dex flatly says he'd only consider returning if Blake were back in charge, 'cause he's had it with stupid Steven at the helm, and his inability to work alongside Fallon and Adam without constant conflict.
That evening, Steven stops by Delta Rho to tuck Danny in...and Sammy Jo needlessly gives him the heads up that Jeff has invested some capital funds in the ranch after learning about her financial woes. Steven bitchily admonishes her for not coming to him for the money, so she explains that she doesn't want to be so financially dependent on him anymore [but is perfectly OK being financially dependent on a different man]. He irritably asks her if there's more than just a money arrangement going on between her and Jeff, and she haughtily refuses to dignify that insulting question by admitting 'yeah, there kinda is'.
"Is there anything resembling hanky panky going on between you and Jeff?"
"You insult me. And yes."
Alexis (hurray - she can walk again!) sashays over to Blake's campaign headquarters to explain that she's decided to stay in the gubernatorial race 'cause of how touched she was by the public's outpouring of love and concern for her wellbeing following the shooting. Blake angrily accuses her of wanting to destroy his campaign, then puts a pin in that 'cause he has to rush off to a scheduled campaign event.
Blake is yammering at a group of supporters about the scourge of slumlords who, if elected, he's going to make clean up their act in providing decent housing for renters. When someone in the crowd asks Blake how he could possibly relate to the plight of poor renters, given that he lives in a swanky mansion, he tells her that his family represents three generations of poverty-stricken Coloradans, and that he got rich through years of hard work...and that he genuinely wants to give them all the ability to achieve the American dream. As everyone claps at that platitude, Sammy Jo, who's there as part of the Blake for Governor entourage, hands out buttons. A rando supporter wanders over and is so helplessly smitten by her beauty - but she coldly ignores him as she packs up the buttons and races off.
Alexis returns to her ColbyCo office and gets a briefing from her secretary (Jennifer) about all the calls and telegrams she's received since last night. Alexis asks her to set up a meeting with Leslie...then registers surprise when Jennifer informs her that Leslie is currently in Natumbe.
The rando who was so smitten with Sammy Jo at the campaign event enters the downtown campaign office, which Sammy Jo is about to close up for the night. He fawns over how super gorgeous she is...but when she reacts by looking repulsed by his flattery and shoves him away, he accuses her of flirting with him earlier and angrily declares, "What you show, you owe." Sammy Jo reacts to that idiotic pronouncement by slapping him, then struggles against him when he gets really grab-handsy - just as Jeff happens to enter the campaign office at that moment. He pulls the rando off of Sammy Jo, and starts punching him...and the two wrestle around - until Jeff's stunt double steps in. He leaps high into the air to give himself the kind of bouncy momentum needed in order to pounce atop the rando...all while a trembling Sammy Jo helplessly looks on. Eventually Jeff delivers a hard enough punch to send the rando running off...and then Jeff turns his attention to Sammy Jo and asks her if she's OK. She mutely nods, and gives him a grateful hug.
"You flaunt it, you want it."
"I didn't, and I don't."
Thwack!
Wheeee!
Dex drops by Alexis's hotel suite to check up on her, and to gift her a bottle of her favorite perfume. She admits to feeling a new level of vulnerability after being attacked as an emerging public figure, and vows to take more stringent security measures in the future. The conversation then shifts to Sean's trip to Natumbe...and Dex hands her the military photo he found of Harry Thresher and Sean. He tells her he definitely doesn't trust Harry, and Alexis translates that to mean he doesn't trust Sean and gets all prickly about being criticized for her dumb decision to marry a weirdo she barely knew. Dex insists that he's only trying to help, but she wearily tells him to leave 'cause she's getting tired...but then stares concernedly at the photo.
Leslie drops in on Sean at his Natumbe hotel room, and he irritably demands to know what she's doing here. She smugly tells him she knows he's into something shady, like maybe trying to personally profit off of the Vitron oil deal...and that she won't blow the whistle on him 'cause she too wants a piece of the action. She taunts him about being the son of a servant, promises to not blow his cover, and says she's willing to work hard for her cut, citing the toughness of the world in which "a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do". Ick, Leslie.
As Alexis sits atop her bed and continues to stare concernedly at the photo of Sean and Harry Thresher, her adorable Shih Tzu waddles into the room and starts sniffing at something under the bed. Alexis helps him find his lost toy...and in the process, spots the bracelet that Leslie unwittingly lost earlier. Alexis has a flashback of when she gave it to Leslie, then glares at a framed photo of Sean on the nightstand and throws the heavy bracelet at it while screeching, "You bastard!"
