Recap: After the disturbing discovery that the underwater vault is empty, Blake, Dex, and Jeff glumly leave the lake and head back to Dex's truck, while Sergeant Zorelli hides behind a nearby tree and continues to spy on them. Blake says he can't belieeeeeeve there's no longer any stolen Nazi treasure being stored inside the vault, and Dex confirms that it was indeed empty...and that the only thing he found was the vault's seal embedded in mud. Blake says he highly doubts that Gibson would have been capable of blowing the vault door open and then emptying it, and Dex says it kinda looked as though "the collection" had been moved a long time ago. The three then climb into Dex's truck and drive off while Zorelli stares after them curiously. Jeff returns to his apartment and is startled to find Sammy Jo in his bed. She asks him where he's been all night, and he deflects her question by quipping, "Where's the priest? Did he renounce his vows for you?" Sammy Jo's all, "Har har" as she unbuttons his shirt and leans in for a smooch - but he stops her and says he's going to take a shower, then make some coffee 'cause the two of them need to talk. Uh oh. Blake drops by Sable's suite to announce, "We have a problem." He further explains that Dex took a dive in the lake and discovered that the seal on the door leading to the vault that once housed "the collection" has been blown open, and that all of the looted Nazi treasure they thought was there is gone. Blake says it occurred to him that maybe Roger Grimes provided Alexis with information as to where it all got moved to - but Sable points out that if any of the stolen artwork had resurfaced, she'd know about it 'cause it would have caused major reverberations throughout the art world. Blake asks Sable if she wouldn't mind sussing out whether or not Alexis knows more about the Nazi treasure than she's letting on, and Sable gleefully says she has a passkey to Alexis's suite and would be more than happy to invade her privacy. As they hug goodbye, Monica arrives and teases her mother about what a lovely couple she and Blake make, and Sable chucklingly denies that there's anything resembling hanky panky going on here...'cause blah. Jeff tells Sammy Jo that she's clearly into Tanner now, and Sammy Jo hotly denies digging the priest, and...blah blah...the two bicker back and forth before she angrily storms out of the apartment. Break up already, dullards. Sable tells Monica she's going to use her passkey to poke around Alexis's suite, and Monica warns that that's tantamount to breaking and entering. Sable insists it's necessary 'cause "Blake needs it", and also doesn't think it's a big deal to snoop through a suite in the hotel that she owns. She adds that she'd really like to get a hold of the Friedrich Stahl painting she recently saw in Alexis's possession. At the mansion, Blake tells Jeff and Dex that he confided in Sable about how "the collection" has gone missing, and an appalled Jeff's all, "The fuck?" and insists that Sable cannot be trusted. Blake argues that Sable is being very helpful, and Dex agrees by pointing out that she could be crushing Alexis/ColbyCo with a profitable lawsuit right now - but has instead ordered Alexis to back off accusing Blake of murdering Roger Grimes. Blake looks impressed by that bit of new intel, while Jeff says he truly hopes they won't live to regret putting their trust in the poutish vixen. Back at the Carlton Hotel, Alexis orders Adam to get her Friedrich Stahl painting appraised, not least 'cause when Sable got a look at it, she reacted quite strongly. After Adam leaves with the painting, Alexis turns her attention to the police captain who's been cooling his heels in her living room. She asks him about the Roger Grimes murder investigation, and he tells her it's currently inactive, and that he has zero interest in spending any time and resources on a long forgotten crime that goes back a generation. Alexis informs him that she has hard evidence incriminating Blake as the murderer, then hands him the letter she received decades ago from Roger, warning her that Blake has threatened to kill them both if he ever finds them together in the sack again. The captain reads over the letter and finds one particular detail interesting: Roger had mentioned coming into a lot of money very soon. Alexis looks visibly annoyed by that and urges the captain to breeze over that troubling statement, pronounces, "I want the case reopened", and provides him with Elsworth Chisolm's contact information. She cites Elsworth as a witness to Blake's crime-ing, and haughtily adds that she is single-handedly making more progress on this [closed] case than his detectives are. The captain asks her why she'd want to see the father of her children be charged with such a serious crime, and she curtly tells him to stop worrying about her motives and solve Roger Grimes's murder. The captain dutifully replies, "Yes ma'am" [and says it as if she were the Chief of Police from whom he should be taking orders, instead of a wealthy civilian unconnected to law enforcement] and exits her apartment. Fallon and Sergeant Zorelli return to Casa Pasta with bags of takeout food, giggling like schoolgirls. Zorelli claims that he's now having dreams about the lake, which means that somehow her scary dreams are getting into his head. He proceeds to ask Fallon about her grandfather's (black) wife, and their daughter...and Fallon unwittingly provides Zorelli with enough intel to start investigating that extended branch of the family:
Later, at Police Headquarters, Sergeant Zorelli is working the phones, calling everyone in Denver named Charles Matthews. He finally manages to track down the right Charles and arranges to drop by his house later. Tanner drops by Delta Rho (via his motorcycle) to explain to Sammy Jo why he neglected to tell her that he's a priest. He explains that he took a leave of absence to see what life could be like as a regular civilian, and to see how people would react to him without the collar. He then says that after that experience he decided to become a full on priest whose vows are now on super solid ground - but he doesn't blame her for being miffed at him. Sammy Jo thanks him for the needless explanation...and he gets back on his motorcycle, leaving her to stare after him sadly. Sergeant Zorelli has arrived at the Matthews' home and is questioning Charles and his wife Jane about Tom Carrington, Laura Matthews, and their daughter Dominique. Charles evasively says that he never got too deeply involved with the Carrington family, and that Dominique is unreachable 'cause she travels a lot. Jane suddenly excuses herself for a moment and asks Charles to accompany her to the kitchen, where she warns her husband to not tell Zorelli anything that might hurt Blake Carrington, a man who deserves to be protected. While that's happening, Zorelli surreptitiously plants a bugging device in their living room [I'll assume without the required wiretapping warrant] ... and a few seconds later he, tells Charles and Jane that he has to leave now - but to give him a call if they happen to remember anything useful. After he climbs into his car, he begins eavesdropping on the couple and learns that Tom Carrington had once given them a package o' stuff for safekeeping. Sable and Monica are sitting on the mezzanine floor of the Carlton Hotel, discussing the lawsuit they just launched against ColbyCo/Alexis, when Jeff barrels over and sarcastically congratulates Sable for getting what she wants from Blake as she tries to "move in on him". An offended looking Sable reacts by slapping his face and admonishing his lack of common decency, and then the two bicker back and forth before Jeff declares that she's going to have to fight him in order to get closer to Blake...even though I don't get the sense that Blake thinks he needs Jeff's approval to pursue any kind of friendship with Sable. Elsworth Chisolm is at Police Headquarters, being grilled by Sergeant Zorelli and Rudy. Elsworth claims he saw Blake carrying Roger Grimes's dead body...and the two cops press him about if he's 100% completely totally certain that it was Blake, given that it was dark out when he witnessed the alleged crime. While watching the interrogation from the adjoining room via a two-way mirror, Alexis complains to the captain that she does not like the way Zorelli is verbally attacking Elsworth - but the captain assures her that the sergeant is merely doing his job. Alexis tells the captain that she thoroughly disapproves of the way the interrogation is being carried out and thinks Zorelli is badgering and intimidating the witness - just as Zorelli and Rudy enter the room and overhear that last part. Zorelli wryly reminds Alexis that when he had questioned her a while ago about whether she knew any of the men involved with the lake construction project, she failed to mention that she had been intimately familiar with Roger Grimes. Alexis complains that he's now badgering her, and points out that he has a conflict of interest in this case, given that he's doinking her daughter. The captain informs her that Zorelli isn't technically on the case, and that he was only allowed to interrogate Elsworth 'cause he just so happens to know a lot about the Grimes murder...which sounds somewhat nonsensical, but OK. When Alexis accuses the captain of protecting Blake, he denies any kind of cover-up and says he can't reopen a case that has a low chance of getting a conviction just 'cause she wants him to. She insists that he can, then warns that if he doesn't do her bidding, he'll "be back on the beat, directing traffic" ... and then flounces out of the room, leaving the captain staring worriedly into space. Over at Carrington manor, Fallon learns from Sammy Jo that Tanner is a priest, and can't help but be intrigued by the notion of forbidden lust...despite the dull-as-fuckness of this tedious sub-plot. A few seconds later, Kristina scampers into the room to complain that LB and Danny won't let her play in their fort. Sammy Jo tells her that boys are always trying to push girls around, while Fallon asks her why she even wants to play in their stinky fort, suggesting that she's only interested in it 'cause they don't want her there. As Kristina mulls that over, she gets distracted by the arrival of Sable, Monica, and Dex, who were invited to dinner. As the tot hugs Sable hello, Jeff wanders over to inform Sammy Jo and Fallon that Blake is in a morose mood 'cause he just got his/Krystle's final divorce papers. Jeff then pulls Dex aside to tell him that he spoke to Roger Grimes's former architect partner, who told him he's the second man in two weeks to want to talk to him. Dex worriedly remarks on how it sounds as though someone is getting closer to finding "the collection". Egads! Sable enters the study to sympathetically cluck to Blake about how awful she feels for him regarding his divorce...then tells him she had promised Krystle she would do everything possible to keep Alexis from hurting him, and is dutifully carrying out that promise. Blake thanks her, then continues staring sadly into space. Over at ColbyCo, Adam tells Alexis that he left her Stahl painting with the appraiser...and she grumbles about what a bunch of morons the police are, and that the captain seems way too intimated by Blake to charge him with murder just 'cause she wants him to. A few seconds later, a team of Federal Marshals burst into the office and inform Alexis that they have a subpoena (as part of a newly launched lawsuit) to access the company's computer files. Sable and Monica smugly stroll in as Adam reads over the subpoena, and then a frazzled secretary races in to wail, "They're stripping our databanks and taking our files!" Monica clarifies that the only information that is being "stripped" is that which is relevant to the two companies in whose business Fritz and Sean had tried to illegally intervene. Alexis reacts to the raid by ripping up the subpoena and then lighting up a cigarillo, while Adam vows to have the order vacated. A unfazed Sable reminds Alexis that she had given her the chance to avoid being sued - and Alexis shoots back that she's only doing this to worm her way into Blake's bed (ew). Sable laughingly retorts, "I'm not after Blake. I'm after you" and threatens to sink both her and her failing company. Alexis heads back to her suite to pack a suitcase. She tells Adam she's off to Switzerland to move her assets to a safe place that can't be touched by the Feds, and Adam warns that it's illegal to place assets offshore during an investigation...and that it's not so easy to backdate transaction documents. Alexis assures him she's confident that she'll get away with that kind of law-breaking and heads out...and once she's safely out of earshot, Adam calls Blake and informs him that Alexis blabbed to the police about Elsworth Chisolm being a witness to him allegedly murdering Roger Grimes. He claims that he's only pretending to work on Alexis's behalf to keep her from doing anything too harmful, then passes along Elsworth's address in case Blake is interested in talking to his accuser [which seems like horrible advice, now that the man is on the police's radar as possible murder witness]. After the call, Adam exits the suite...leaving the coast clear for Sable to tiptoe inside so that she can snoop through Alexis's stuff. When the phone happens to ring, she listens to the answering machine message, which is from the art appraiser, who would like to discuss the Stahl painting asap. Sable jots down the phone number, then erases the message so that Alexis is none the wiser. Over at Casa Pasta, Sergeant Zorelli tries to get Fallon to talk some more about the lake (gaaaaaaa!!) and any additional tidbits she may remember about Roger Grimes. Fallon complains that that's all they ever talk about anymore [right?!], and hates the fact that Blake thinks she's betraying him...and as they're talking, we see that the apartment has been bugged and that some unseen person is eavesdropping on their conversation. Fallon accidentally drops a plate onto the floor...and as Zorelli bends down to pick up the shards, Fallon remarks on the orange jacket that Blake always used to wear. Before boarding her plane to Switzerland, Alexis drops by Dex's place to tell him about the lawsuit that Sable has launched against her, and whines that it could bring down ColbyCo. Dex just kind of shrugs disinterestedly and points out that she could've easily avoided the lawsuit simply by keeping her mouth shut about Blake allegedly murdering Roger Grimes - but instead went and blabbed about it to the police captain. Alexis angrily accuses him of not only jumping in the sack with Sable, but also helping "that witch" destroy her life. Blake heads over to Elsworth Chisolm's apartment to ask why in blazes he's telling the police he killed Roger Grimes...and as they're conversing, we see that someone is lurking near the door (which is open a crack) and eavesdropping. There's definitely a lot of eavesdropping going on in this episode. When Elsworth weakly claims that he wants justice done, Blake asks him if he's mostly interested in the reward money Alexis had offered. Elsworth is like, "Well d'yuh" and says he'd like his granddaughter to have a [financially secure] future, then says he hasn't told the police everything he knows about The Unsolved Murder of Roger Grimes, namely that he was tasked with building a tunnel under Carrington manor. When Blake stares back at him confusedly and is all, "Say wuh?", Elsworth says he helped dig those tunnels and "finally figured out what you folks are trying to hide". Blake keeps mum about "the collection" and offers to make Elsworth a deal: divulge all the information he knows in exchange for a hefty check. Elsworth tells him he'll only accept hard cash, and Blake agrees - but irritably says that once he gives him a pile of money, he expects him to move far away from Denver. Blake storms out and exits the building - just as Adam and Phoenix pull up across the street. Adam notices Blake rushing over to his car, but doesn't mention the sighting to Phoenix. When Adam and Phoenix enter Elsworth's apartment, they notice that the living room window is wide open...and that Elsworth has jumped, fallen, or been pushed to his death. As Phoenix freaks out at the sight of her deceased grandfather on the ground below, Adam comforts her with a forcible hug. Thanks for reading!
