Dex gives Adam a well deserved strangling
"Virginia Reels"
Original airdate: 2/23/1989

Episode summary: Sable reveals to Fritz Heath that she owns his gambling debt and wants his help bringing down ColbyCo. Dex is enraged when he learns of Adam's treatment of Virginia. Fallon discovers that Sergeant Zorelli has been using her to spy on Blake.

Recap: Sable drops by Dex's place to tell him she really really needs to fully explain to Blake why she brought Gibson to Denver and then commissioned him to dive into the mysterious lake. She said she wants Blake to know the full facts, and Dex promises to help facilitate that meeting.

Fallon wakes up to the sound of Sergeant Zorelli cooking and calling in sick. After hanging up, he bellyaches yet again to Fallon about how much he fuckin' haaaaaates working behind a desk and yearns to be a fully functioning cop again. He wonders aloud whether he should return to Philadelphia and be a cop there, and Fallon tells him it's verrrrrry annoying to listen to his endless moaning and bitching about not being able to do things like put Blake away away for murder. With that said, she pulls him toward her and gives him a big smooch...and, nope, still no chemistry there.

Fritz Heath is back at the casino, racking up more debt at the blackjack table. The floor manager wanders over and warns that he's continuing to "get in deep"... and instead of trying to get a handle on this inane addiction, Fritz requests an extended credit of $10,000, which is promptly approved. A few seconds later, Sable saunters in and seats herself beside Fritz. She introduces herself, then gleefully informs him that she bought his marker and therefore owns his debt...and that he should put a pin in his current losing streak so they can go over to the back office and discuss how he's going to pay her back.

Tanner McBride has learned that the hospital administration has agreed to release Elizabeth Parker to the custody of her abusive parents. He rails at the unsympathetic hospital administrator (Mr. Stanley) that Elizabeth will surely kill herself if she's forced to go home, and begs to be awarded temporary custody. Sammy Jo, who just happens to be walking by at that moment, intervenes by reminding Mr. Stanley how much dough the Carrington family has donated to this hospital...and that she'd appreciate his help in letting Tanner serve as the teenager's guardian. Mr. Stanley easily caves and tells Sammy Jo that since he knows where his bread is buttered, he'd be delighted to do her bidding. Tanner stares over at Sammy Jo with a grateful expression.

Over at Denver Carrington, Blake wants Adam to be aware of what a vulnerable young woman Virginia is, which is in sharp contrast to him being "a man of experience" [aka a creepily aggressive date rapist every woman should avoid]. Adam assures his father he is fully aware of that - but that he's also aware of how erratic Virginia can be, and that he (pot) is pretty sure she (kettle) has "a screw loose" and needs professional help. Blake insists that because of how important Virginia was to Krystle, he wants everyone in the Carrington clan to give Virginia all of the support, and understanding she needs...and Adam somehow manages to retort with a straight face, "That's all I've been trying to do."

Back at the casino, Sable tells Fritz she knows he's been dipping into ColbyCo's coffers to subsidize his gambling addiction, and he gets fake outraged, tells her she has no proof of that, and snarlingly assures her she'll get her 210K. Sable points out all of the "clumsy" business transactions he had overseen with Sean Rowan, then says it makes her feel "emotionally burdened" knowing Alexis is at the helm of the company and would like him to help relieve her of that burden. When she invokes all of the skeletons that must have been part of Alexis's empire building, Fritz refuses to take the bait in offering up any dirt against his boss. Sable urges him to reconsider, not least 'cause his hefty debt is secured by the value of his house and his family's trust fund. She decrees that he will need to pay her, either with cash or useful information that can bring Alexis down...and warns that he doesn't have a whole lot of options.

That evening at Carrington manor, Sable tells Blake that she's genuinely fond of him and Krystle and would never do anything to damage either of them. She goes on to explain that years ago she heard a frightened sounding Jason talking on the phone, talking about an abandoned mine...and that he wanted whatever was inside the mine to stay there. Fast forward to more recently, he abandoned her and their children...so she thought it'd be a fun idea to hurt Jason by sending a diver into the lake to unearth whatever it was that had frightened him. When Gibson's dive prompted Roger Grimes's body to become dislodged and float to the surface, she abruptly called off any further search efforts...and insists that she has no idea why Gibson subsequently infiltrated Delta Rho and shot Sammy Jo. She insists again to Blake that she really really does consider him and Krystle to be her dear friends...and Blake responds with a slow, contemplative nod.

Tanner brings Sammy Jo a single rose to thank her for intervening on Elizabeth Parker's behalf. He gives her his phone number if she ever feels like calling...then says he'd love her to meet the wayward teenagers he's currently trying to help.

When Sable exits the mansion, she runs into Dex, who tells her he's genuinely impressed by her earnest affection for Blake and Krystle. Sable says she was merely trying to clear things up, and Dex says he kinda digs seeing the softer side of her.

Virginia drops by Dex's place to show him the skimpy-wear Adam gave her during the previous episode, and that he had expected her to fulfill his sexual fantasies with some slutty role playing. She tears up about how humiliated and trashy he made her feel...and Dex gives her a paternal hug and assures her that Adam won't hurt her anymore. He vows, "I will see to that" as he clenches a fist.

At the Carlton Hotel, Joanna tells Sable that she once again reminded Fritz his marker is due in a couple of days, and Sable asks if pushing him too hard is wise, given that gambling is illegal in Denver. Joanna grumbles about how everything she does is severely criticized, and that she can't help but wonder if it's 'cause she once spent sexy time with Dex. She then insists to Sable that she should feel free to pursue Dex, declaring, "The field's open. I'm not in the way." Sable imperiously asks if she's seriously giving her permission to go after Dex, and Joanna back pedals and says she didn't mean it that way. Sable snarls about her impertinence some more, then abruptly decrees that it's time for them to cut the chit-chat and get down to business.

As Adam, Jeff, and Fallon convene an evening meeting at Denver Carrington, Dex bursts in to confront Adam about his sleazy effort in trying to get Virginia to put on skimpy-wear. He chases Adam around the office bellowing, "How do you live with yourself?!" (lol) while Adam anxiously yells, "Guard!" and tries to avoid getting a beating. Eventually Dex pounces atop him, chokes him for a few seconds, then gives him a face punch. Soon after, a security guard rushes in and pulls Dex off of Adam, who stupidly sneers, "Dex is upset that I know all about him and his little whore." Dex reacts by breaking free from the security guard, putting his hands around Adam's throat again, and screaming, "I'll kill you! I swear I'll kill you!" He warns Adam that if he ever goes anywhere near Virginia again, it'll be the last move he ever makes. He then storms out, leaving Adam to recover from being nearly choked to death...and Fallon to stare curiously at Adam before asking, "What did you do this time?" Adam falsely claims that Virginia was "Dex's little plaything" from years ago - but Fallon doesn't buy it, and says it doesn't fully explain why he came charging in here to beat him up. Adam insists that Dex was angry he discovered "his dirty little secret", then likens Dex's shameful past to the shameful thing she's currently doing with Sergeant Zorelli. Seems like kind of a nonsensical comparison, but OK.

Blake visits Gibson in the hospital again and asks him how he knew to nose around Delta Rho, so Gibson explains that he recently talked to a bunch of old-timers from Los Angeles who were involved with the mine project and told him that that Delta Rho was the site of the old mining headquarters...and that there was buried treasure on the site. Blake points out that if there had been something that valuable on the land he would have dug it up long again, then says that since he did try to kill Sammy Jo, he doesn't feel the need to bail him out of jail. Gibson rails about being double-crossed, and Blake's like, "I really couldn't give a rat's ass", and heads over to the nearest pay phone to report to Dex (I'll assume) that he's confident Gibson doesn't know anything about "the collection".

Sergeant Zorelli enters the Evidence Room at Police Headquarters and pretends to the cop clerk that he got a request to look at the evidence gathered from Gibson after his lake dive. The dubious cop clerk pretends to buy the fib and hands him the file, which includes a hand-drawn map of the lake property. Zorelli perks up at this new clue and make a photocopy of the map, and the cop clerk urges him to be careful with evidence that he's prolly not supposed to be privy to during his demotion.

Fritz calls Sable and says he neeeeeeds to see her asap. She tells him tonight isn't convenient, but that she'll make time for him tomorrow morning. After Fritz hangs up, he pulls a gun out of his desk drawer (!) but seems clueless about how to load the bullets.

Sergeant Zorelli returns home...and is so alarmed when he hears someone inside his apartment that he pulls out his gun and tiptoes inside. He points the gun at whoever's in the kitchen - but it just turns out to be Fallon, who used his spare key to let herself in and start cooking Italian food. Zorelli hastily puts the gun away and says he kinda likes the idea of finding her in his kitchen, cooking his dinner like a 1950s housewife, then says he's off to take a shower, eat her pasta...and maybe enjoy some dessert (mmm hmm). As he loudly sings in the shower, Fallon happily goes about her cooking, then looks around for some matches. During the search, she opens one of his drawers and is shocked to find the surveillance photo of her comparing Roger Grimes's corpse to her photo of Roger and Blake. She instantly gets upset at what she considers a betrayal and moans, "Oh God...daddy was right. You're just using me so you can spy on him."

"You're definitely a keeper, Zorelli."

A little while later, Zorelli emerges from the shower and is confused to see that Fallon is no longer in the apartment.

Dex is in the Carlton Hotel lounge when he runs into Joanna and invites her to join him for a drink - but she declines 'cause she doesn't want Sable to see the two of them together. She explains that she's pretty sure Sable has become smitten with him, and that the feeling is mutual. She wryly describes him as "a great lover, just a lousy career move" - just as Sable enters the lounge and bitchily orders Joanna to get back to work. Adam, who's been eavesdropping on the conversation from the hallway, follows Joanna as she heads over to the elevator and cautions her about letting Sable bully her. When she asks him who the hell he is, he introduces himself...and she looks intrigued at the notion of meeting a Carrington [even a visibly weird one] and coquettishly introduces herself.

Back in the lounge, Dex assures Sable that Blake will come around and trust her once again. The conversation then shifts to Alexis, and Dex says he hasn't done anything to stop her from blabbing about how Blake murdered Roger Grimes 'cause she hasn't said anything about it to the police yet...but if she does, he'll definitely step in and do something to shut her up.

Over in the elevator, Adam and Joanna argue about who's been winning more battles: Alexis or Sable. When Joanna reaches her floor, Adam gives her his card and tells her to give him a call if she's "ever in the neighborhood". [Nooo! Don't do it, Joanna!]

Back at Carrington manor, Virginia has packed her bags and is saying goodbye to Blake and Denver forever. When Blake urges her to extend her stay, she tells him that, in a weird way, Adam did her a favor by gifting her skimpy-wear, 'cause she's really ready to go spread her wings and live her own life. Blake pulls out the necklace she gave him before Krystle's surgery and hopes it brings her some much needed magic...and then the two hug before she gets into a cab and is never seen on Dynasty again. Phew.

Late that night, Sable wakes up to the sound of someone pounding on her door...and that someone turns out to be a frazzled Fritz Heath, who rails about how she's pushed him too far, and that he can't take it anymore. He asks her how she found out that he was stealing from ColbyCo...so she's all, "Well duh. Your salary is nowhere near the size of your past debts, which you somehow managed to pay off." Fritz bitterly complains that Alexis has never paid him what he's worth...then insists that he was going to pay back all the money he's been skimming off the top, if not for his string of bad luck at the blackjack table.

"I do not accept that excuse."

Fritz says he wants to show her what's in his briefcase, and that he's been sitting on something big enough to bring down ColbyCo. He tells her he expects to be rewarded handsomely for this intel...and Sable looks incredulous at his gumption in asking for more money when she's already offered him 210K to pay his debts while staying quiet about his embezzlement. Fritz newly freaks out about not wanting to go to jail, so Sable calms him down and urges him to show her the intel. He opens his briefcase and holds up a thick packet, gleefully claiming that it contains a huge bombshell and that he wants $5 million in exchange for handing it over. As Sable openly laughs at him for thinking she'd actually pay him that much, he reaches for the gun that's also in his briefcase and points it at her...and she quickly turns ashen-faced while pleading for him to put the gun away, then shrieks, "Fritz! Nooooo!"
