"Samantha"
Original airdate: 12/29/1982

Episode summary: Blake and Dehner continue to try to make contact with Steven, much to Krystle's dismay. Alexis holds a memorial service for Steven, which Blake refuses to attend. Sammy Jo returns to Denver with a bundle of joy.

Recap: Krystle wakes up, then looks miffed that Blake's side of the bed is empty...and in the next scene she's dressed and strutting purposefully down the hall. She runs into Dehner the Diviner, who tells her that Blake is in Steven's room, once again trying to make contact with his spirit/ghost/mental energy. Dehner accuses Krystle of being skeptical of his mystical powers, and she confirms that she'd love it if he packed up his shit and left. Just as she's saying that last part, Blake emerges from Steven's room - awkward! - and tells Krystle he'd like to speak with her privately. As soon as they're behind closed doors, he bitchily tells her it's A-OK with him if she doesn't believe in his efforts to find Steven, 'cause he believes in what he's doing. Krystle wails about how horribly this whole thing is affecting his health: he's not sleeping, has lost touch with reality, barely leaves the house, and has faux five o'clock shadow (since I'm pretty sure it's makeup and not actual hair). Blake denies losing touch with reality and points out that his secretary has been regularly sending him files so that he can run Denver-Carrington from the mansion. He growls, "What more do you want?!" and vows to continue to mope around Steven's room until he's able to find him...or at least figure out whether or not he made it to the afterlife.

Alexis arrives at the La Mirage to inform Fallon that she's holding a memorial service for Steven that afternoon. She asks Fallon to invite Blake, and Fallon says she highly doubts he'll attend 'cause he still has search teams scouring every island near the Java Sea. Alexis says she needs to move on with her life and that the moment she saw her son's jacket, she knew he was a goner...then blames Blake for driving Steven away, thereby indirectly causing his death. Fallon points out that Blake isn't the only person who drove Steven away, but Alexis shakes her head dismissively at the accusation and says she's holding the service for Steven, whether or not Blake comes...and Fallon sadly stares into space.

Fallon heads over to Carrington manor and finds Blake lounging on a sofa in one of his living rooms. She says she's heartbroken to see him like this: not living in the real world and wrestling with ghosts. He insists he knows what he's doing, so she tells him about the memorial service that Alexis is holding for Steven, and he calls it "well-intentioned, but wrong" and adamantly refuses to attend.

Later, Blake is on the phone with his search team coordinator in Bali. There's been no sign of life, but Blake refuses to give up and orders the search to continue. Krystle enters the study, decked out in a fabulous fur hat and matching tailored coat, and tells Blake she's off to Steven's memorial service. Blake grumbles that he's not going, then holds up a $1000 check she made out to Mark Jennings and asks her what the hell it was for. Krystle explains that Mark paid off Frank Dean, so she repaid him. Blake scrunches his face in annoyance and chides her for not telling him about it, so she explains that he was in Bali when it all went down. He then notices that she's still wearing her locket and asks her if she likes it so much 'cause of her sentimental feelings for her grandmother or her love for Mark (who returned it to her). Krystle insists that she's wearing it as an homage to her grandmother, then is all, "See! Look!" and opens the locket so he can see that there's a photo of himself inside. She then whirls on her heel and flounces out of the room, and Blake angrily crumples up the $1000 check and tosses it into the fireplace.

Everyone's gathered at the Carrington Chapel (yes, it seems that the Carringtons really do have their very own chapel) to honor Steven's life and memory. Adam glances a few pews down at Kirby - who's stonily sitting with Joseph - then smirks to himself 'cause he's a shameless, unrepentant rapist. A sweaty, queasy looking Jeff is sitting beside Fallon...and just as the reverend is finishing up the service, Jeff stumbles out of the church and huddles on a bench outside. Fallon dashes out after him and asks him whassup, and remarks that he's been looking green around the gills for a few weeks now. He snarks a bitchy retort, so she stalks off...and a few seconds later, Kirby appears and remarks to Jeff that it's been a terrible day...and then Jeff rudely stalks off. Adam, who has witnessed the hostile exchange, chides Kirby for being hung up on such a loser - then points out that he is not a loser...and that maybe one day she'll realize that and knock on his door. After he saunters off, Joseph appears and asks Kirby what that was all about - and she just shakes her head and says, "Nothing." Joseph glares at her suspiciously and warns her again not to get involved with any Carrington/Colby men.

"But I'm amusing myself by smirking at my recent rape victim."

Mark, who was also in attendance at the memorial, corners Krystle and asks her why they haven't seen each other lately. When she scrunches her face in pensive confusion, he reminds her that she promised him they'd be friends...and she gives him a funny look and says, "You came here to tell me that?" LOL. He insists that he had to see her, so she throws him a bone and tells him they're friends (sort of), and that she appreciates his cooperation with their divorce - but she can't really hang with him anymore 'cause she has a life with her millionaire husband. Mark barks, "He's not your husband!" and reminds her that technically she's Krystle Jennings - and that Blake doesn't have the right to tell her what to do. Krystle's like, "Blake has every right!" (say what?!), professes her love for the old goat, and storms off. A few seconds later, Mark runs into Alexis and bitches at her for screwing up his life when she enticed him to leave New York and move to Colorado. Oh shut up, Seventies Pornstar - nobody held a gun to your head and forced you to move across the country.

Back at Carrington manor, Blake is pleased to find Adam waiting for him in the study. Adam wanks him by telling him he believes in the efforts that he and Dehner are making to locate Steven, and that psychics can work wonders. He says he knows how he feels about Steven, then adds, "Just as I do" so Blake calls him out on all the trash-talking he did about Steven during the Siblings episode. Adam says that that was before he knew more about him, then cleverly pivots and gushes at Blake for his admirable strength and courage. Blake thanks him for the wanking, and Adam urges him to phone anytime he needs a sympathetic ear, then heads out. He runs into Kirby in the hall and chides her for eavesdropping...and when she just stares at him mutely, he derisively refers to her as a servant and "nothing more than the majordomo's daughter". She doesn't react, but just continues to stare at him mutely, which looked totally weird.

Mark is packing up his stuff in his La Mirage lodgings when Alexis drops by. She invokes their earlier conversation, when he accused her of screwing up his life, and poutishly says it's been haunting her ever since. Mark chuckles and says, "I'm sure you've heard worse", but Alexis looks all tortured and says she's been taking "terrible blows" ever since Steven's rig blew up. She insists she didn't mean to hurt him by luring him to Denver, and that she wants him to believe she's truly sorry. She says she wants to repay him for any harm she caused, then sits on the bed and tears up. Mark hands her a drink and coos about how much she's hurting - and she poutishly replies, "I am." The two then stare searchingly into each other's eyes...and just when I was starting to really worry that they were about to to start making out, they start fucking making out. OMG.

Blake is in Steven's room, idly stroking a toy horse. Dehner tells him he continues to feel nothing in this room, so Blake offers to bring in some more of Steven's possessions - but Dehner announces that he's officially throwing in the towel and heading back to Malibu. Blake urges him to stay and offers to pay him more money, but Dehner declines the offer and says he's all out of hope. He suddenly pauses and asks Blake if there was somewhere Steven was happy, and Blake stares into space as he contemplatively mulls that over. Um...throughout Seasons 1-2, Steven was never not a mopey sad sack. So no.

In the next scene, Blake jumps into one of his fancy cars and drives out to the Blaisdel oil rig where Steven worked during Season 1. Krystle is in hot pursuit...and she watches as Blake dashes out of his car and scrambles up a dirt hill. She scrambles up the hill after him (wearing an all white outfit that she somehow doesn't get dirty). Blake calls out to Steven, and says he knows how happy he was working for Matthew and figured maybe he could reach him here. He apologizes for all the nasty shit that ever went down between them, then says he wants him to come back and promises never to stop searching. Krystle tears up, quietly approaches Blake, and touches his shoulder...and he whirls around, startled. He suddenly thinks of something that causes him to perk up, and mumbles something about needing Steven's jacket, then scrambles back down the dirt hill toward his car. LOL. Blake looks funny when he runs.

Blake arrives at Alexis' penthouse and demands that she turn over Steven's jacket. When she seems reluctant, he threatens to ransack the apartment until he finds it, so she gives in and agrees to hand it over.

Sammy Jo (yay!) is at a gas station, en route to Denver...and she's being brazenly leered at by the gas station attendant. He tells her he recently saw her naughty parts featured in a nudie magazine while she was doing one of those "girlie girlie jobs" but she just glares back and him and orders him to give her her change so she can hit the road for Denver. The attendant asks her what's waiting for her there, so she rhetorically asks, "Would you be surprised if I said one million dollars?" then gets into her car and hits the gas.

Krystle returns to the mansion, visibly upset. She stumbles into the living room, collapses onto a couch, and starts weeping. Fallon hears her from the hall and rushes in to ask her whassup, but Krystle snarks that she wants to be alone. Fallon asks her if something happened to Blake, but Krystle incoherently moans, "I've lost him!" then explains how she found Blake scrambling around in the dirt at the Blaisdel rig, and that he's convinced himself that Steven is still alive. She wails, "I don't know what to doooo!" and Fallon somehow suddenly becomes an empathetic person and apologizes for "trying to invade" her love for her father, and regrets that she's been fighting her all this time. Krystle snaps at her to not be so nice 'cause she knows she's just going to turn on her again - but Fallon promises not to do that and insists that she wants to be here, comforting her. Krystle growls, "I don't want to be with you!" and then gets up and storms out. Once she's in the hall, she pauses and looks behind her, then returns to the living room where she and Fallon collapse against each other in a tight hug...and Fallon assures her that everything will be OK.

Dehner is fondling Steven's jacket and it looks like he's concentrating very hard. He tells Blake he's getting "a sense of Steven", and that it's a sense of "the present, life, and breathing". Also, he feels coverings, like cloth or bandages. Dehner also gets the impression that Steven is unable to speak, and Blake scrunches his face in confusion and says he can't fathom what that means.

"What's this? I'm getting strong vibes from the producers that the role of Steven will soon be recast."

Sammy Jo arrives at Carrington manor and tells Joseph she will speak only to Blake. He ushers her to the study, and Blake smiles and looks happy to see his daughter-in-law. She tells him she drove all the way to Denver...then apologizes for "so many things". She tells him about how Steven came to Hollywood to beg her to return, but that she couldn't see her way clear to return. She says she's sorry for being such a disappointment, but Blake just waves his hand and indulgently replies, "You were young. Things happen." Sammy Jo, who says she now wants to be called Samantha, says, "I came to let you know..." then steps out of the room so that Joseph can hand her an infant. She carries the baby into the study and explains that this is why she couldn't come earlier, then introduces Blake to her son: Steven Daniel Carrington, Jr. Blake's all, "Wha-a?!" then grins happily, and decides that when Dehner sensed that Steven was unable to speak, he probably meant that it was the baby who couldn't speak. Er, OK..?

The entire household is gathered in the living room...and when Alexis and Adam arrive, Alexis looks around in confusion and haughtily asks why they've all been summoned. Everyone just stares at her mutely until Samantha sashays into the room. Alexis stares at her in surprise and goes, "Sammy Jo..?" and she bitchily corrects Alexis and says she goes by Samantha now. She tells Alexis she's doing very well, as is her son...and Krystle and Fallon turn around, startled, and are all, "Wha-a?" and then Blake enters the room with the baby cradled in his arms. He introduces the child to everyone as Steven's son, and credits Samantha for returning to Denver "in great compassion" for not denying him his grandson. He then stares down at the tot and declares that Steven will live on in this baby.

Later, Krystle is in the nursery, rocking the baby and cooing, "You're so beautiful!" Samantha enters the room and snarks about the irony of getting kicked out of the mansion, then setting the entire house on its ear now that she's suddenly back with Steven's spawn. She snarkishly informs Krystle that she calls the baby Danny (not Little Steven), then hints that she and Danny may not stay in Denver for very long. Krystle stares back at her in horror, and the episode abruptly ends there with duhn! duhn! duhn! music in the background.

What a dumb cliffhanger.
