The woman learns how to cast a fishing rod
"Apples to Apples"
Original airdate: 5/19/2025

Episode summary: Aidan invites Carrie to stay at his Virginia farm, where she witnesses Wyatt's alarming behavior. Lisa interviews a sexy man to be the editor of her sheroes documentary. Miranda makes a move on Joy.

Recap: Aidan is loudly instructing Wyatt on how to paint the exterior of the guest house...which causes Carrie to wake up to the sight of - ack! - Wyatt peeking into her window. She gives him a friendly wave (which he sullenly ignores), then gets out of bed and totters down the front staircase of the guest house in her stiletto sandals and fancy pink dress. Homer (Aidan's middle son) beams happily at the sight of her and exclaims, "Carrrrrrie!" as he rushes over to give her a big hug. [These two must have really bonded during her off camera visit to Virginia in Season 2.] Carrie apologizes for her stank from wearing the same clothes for two days...after she and Seema forgot to remove their luggage from the trunk of a rental car before it got towed away. Homer offers to loan her something of his to wear, and she happily takes him up on a fresh change of clothes.

Over at the mansion, Shoo is perched on the highest point of her kitty condo as she stares down at Miranda (who's sleeping in Carrie's bed as she house-sits) and decides it'd be fun to pounce upon her head. The head pounce startles Miranda, who chides the sweet feline for waking her...but then coos about how utterly adorable she is.

Herbert tells Lisa she was talking in her sleep again last night, and Lisa explains that it's likely 'cause she's been so anxious about hiring a new editor for her sheroes documentary...and has gotten three weeks behind due to her inability to just make a damn hiring decision. An irritated Herbert tells her to decide quick, 'cause her sleep talking is keeping him up at night. Lisa sheepishly promises to do it today.

Harry tells his family that his dad (who everybody calls Pop Pop) wants to have dinner tonight at 5pm. Charlotte scrunches her face and remarks on how crazy early that is, and Harry just shrugs and points out that his dad is very old and that very old people like to eat early. Harry then notices an overripe banana on the counter and picks it up - but Rock tells him not to eat it 'cause the woman in 10F sent out an all building bulletin requesting overripe bananas. [Seems weirdly specific, but OK.] Harry rolls his eyes and grumbles about how the 10F woman is always begging her fellow residents for weird, random things. He then hands Pop Pop's iPad to Rock and explains that the device needs fixing 'cause it has a ton of windows open and is unable to download anything. Lily, meanwhile, informs her family that she has invited (her ballerina crush) Diego to the family's Tuesday night dinner, and Charlotte squeals excitedly about finally getting a formal introduction to the guy she recently saw her daughter sucking face with.

During breakfast, Homer asks Carrie how long she's staying at the farm - and Aidan quickly interjects and says he's hereby inviting Carrie to stay for a few days so that she can join them for Tate's 21st birthday. Carrie points out that she's going to need to buy some clothes...and when Aidan offers to take her to Target, Wyatt asks if this means he no longer has to paint the guest house. Carrie quickly offers to go somewhere local...and when Homer offers to take her to the nearby Daisy's Dress Shop, Wyatt pissily declares that he's refusing to paint the guest house if Homer is allowed to slack off. [This kid really is an unbearable pill.] Carrie does her best to diffuse the situation by offering to walk to town - but Aidan says that that's a no go 'cause the road is currently too muddy. Homer suggests she drive the ATV...and in the next scene, Aidan is giving Carrie some basic instruction on how to operate the slow moving motor vehicle and provides directions to the dress shop. He sheepishly explains that if he were to leave Wyatt alone, even for a second, he'd become glued to his phone...and he much prefers the lad to work outside so that he can get "out of his head". Carrie's like, "Yeah, OK, whatever" and slowly motors off on the ATV while Aidan and Homer cheer her on.

Back in New York, Lisa's assistant informs her that a Marion Odin is in the reception area, waiting to be interviewed for the editor job...then specifies that Marion is a guy. Lisa looks aghast at the gender reveal and says she'd much prefer that a woman be editing her sheroes documentary - but her assistant warns that she prolly shouldn't say something so brazenly discriminatory out loud. A few seconds later, the incredibly suave Marion sexily sashays in and wankingly tells Lisa he saw her past film when it opened in Tribeca and was utterly moooooved by it. He also mentions that he knows her ex-assistant Grace, 'cause they're both part of a greater community of film editors who get together every now and again to play baseball. Lisa admits that his resume is very impressive - but that she needs to decide if she's really truly 100% willing to hire a non-woman to edit her precious female-centric video content. She promises to make a final decision tomorrow.

Carrie calls Miranda to let her know that she'll be staying at Aidan's farm for a few days. She mentions that Wyatt is an antisocial weirdo [who, I strongly feel, gives off alarming 'I could be a school shooter' vibes] who just wants to be on his phone 24/7, and Miranda assures her that the phone thing is totally normal for a teenage boy [even though it's far too optimistic to describe Wyatt as a normal teenage boy]. Carrie tells her she just borrowed Aidan's ATV to ride over to "a sister wives' dress shop", where she's browsing the racks of floral dresses for something clean to wear. Miranda then shares her fun news: she was personally requested by Joy to make an appearance on the BBC.

Ryan Serhant drops by Seema's office to implore her to work under the umbrella of his real estate company...and when she adamantly refuses, he orders her to be off this floor of the building by next week, 'cause his people need the office space. Once he's safely out of earshot, Seema mutters, "Shit.."

Aidan has fibbed to his kids about going for a swim, and is getting it on with Carrie in the guest house. Carrie asks him why she gave the dining table (she really really wants to buy online) a thumbs down emoji, and he's like, "Dunno" and says he barely gave it any thought and would be happy to mindlessly change his rating to a thumbs up. He then asks her if she wouldn't mind spending some quality time with Homer and Wyatt tomorrow, and Carrie grimaces at the thought of trying to bond with his youngest son and says she fears the effort might come off as trying too hard and overly cheesy. Aidan just kind of shrugs unconcernedly and says he'd really really appreciate it if she made an effort to do fun stuff with his boys.

Lisa yells, "Hey! Hey!" in her sleep, which wakes up Herbert. She continues yelling, then talking loudly...and Herbert firmly mutters, "No ma'am" and swiftly exits the bedroom.

The next morning, Herbert tells Lisa he had a great sleep - but only after he opted to sleep in the guest room. Lisa looks appalled by that and warns that they could be on the brink of sleep divorce and insists, "That's not who we are." Herbert points out that his decision to get a good night's sleep is not so much sleep divorce as it is common sense.

Wyatt is playing a game on his phone, which Aidan quickly snatches away from him. He orders him to show Carrie what they do around here - just as she totters over in her high heels wearing one of the Little House on the Prairie frocks she just purchased from Daisy's Dress Shop [which, I'd like to point out, probably mirrors the kind of outfit "the woman" from her historical-novel-in-process would be walking around in].

While preparing to go live on the air in front of the UN, Miranda invites Joy out for dinner - but Joy says she already has plans to meet up with a group of UK friends at the Grammercy Tavern. Miranda perks up and tells her she's house-sitting in Grammercy Park and would love her to come by for a post-dinner drink, and Joy says she'd be delighted.

As the camera goes live, Miranda tells BBC viewers about the dire situation in Central Africa, and that "the rough terrain makes it almost impossible for the displaced to access safe water and sanitation in the wild cunt-ry side". Someone gasps at Miranda's weird pause in the midst of pronouncing country and whispers, "Did she just say cunt?" [Mmm...not really, no.]

As Homer teaches Carrie how to cast a fishing rod, she jokingly tells him she hopes to catch a salmon, 'cause it's the only kind of fish she knows how to cook. She then turns to Wyatt and asks him if he likes salmon, and he bitchily rejoins that catching a salmon isn't actually possible - 'cause they're in Virginia, not Alaska. Homer chides his brother for acting like such a rude turd, and so Wyatt bellyaches about how fishing is soooooo boring [I don't mean to side with Wyatt on this, but I'd tend to agree]. Carrie asks him what he'd rather be doing...and in the next scene, Carrie informs Aidan that she, Homer, and Wyatt are headed to the mall to some VR place that lets you virtually kill zombies. When Aidan says he doesn't like the idea of Wyatt living in any kind of non-reality, Carrie begs him to loosen up, 'cause it's prolly the only way she can connect with his weirdo son. Aidan mulls it over and decides he's OK with it - but insists on coming along.

Brady texts Miranda a now viral video of her saying wild cunt in a loop...which seems less hilarious every time it gets repeated. A horrified Miranda calls Brady, who greets her with, "Hi meme", but then assures her that her faux pas will fade off the Internet the minute a celebrity says or does something stupid. Fingers crossed.

Over at the VR Zombie Killing place, everyone's having fun shooting imaginary monsters - when Wyatt suddenly bonks Carrie in the head in what looked to me like a deliberate attack. When everyone's all, "The hell?", Wyatt whiningly insists, "I was just trying to step in and save my dad." Aidan tells Carrie it was clearly just an accident, and that he doesn't want anyone to make Wyatt feel bad for hitting her with his zombie gun...and Carrie looks visibly peeved by that and complains, "I feel like I'm not allowed to touch my head" [even though she doesn't need to 'cause she's clearly uninjured]. Aidan kisses her boo-boo better, and Carrie half-heartedly assures him she's fine.

Over on Park Avenue, Pop Pop is raving to Charlotte about how amaaaaazing her cooking is, then chides Harry for grumbling about the woman in 10F who wants the overripe banana and tells him to just give it to her already [and if doing that means never ever talking about this anymore, I wholeheartedly agree]. Miranda calls Charlotte while she's sitting atop the toilet (yes really) and asks her if she happened to see her wild cunt meme...and Rock overhears Charlotte's part of the conversation and needlessly chimes in that, yep, they've definitely seen it. Charlotte abruptly ends the call when her dinner guests start arriving, including the woman in 10F who came to pick up her overripe banana. Pop Pop hands it to her and invites her to stay for dinner, which she happily does.

Lily confirms to everyone at the dinner table that Diego is her boyfriend...and Diego concurs - but then clarifies that he also has a boyfriend. As Charlotte stares at her daughter in mute shock, Rock interjects to explain that Diego is poly-sexual, which means he's attracted to a combination of genders...and apparently likes to act on his various attractions in a simultaneous type fashion.

Herbert kisses Lisa good night and starts to head over to the guest room - but Lisa stops him, says she's adamant about them not entering into sleep divorce territory, and promises to not talk in her sleep. In the next scene, we see that Lisa is doing everything possible to stay awake while Herbert contentedly snores beside her.

Seema packs up her desk and tells the receptionist she'll arrange for her things to be put into short term storage. She then asks the young woman if she'd like to jump ship and join her at her new real estate firm - but the receptionist declines 'cause she pays $3,000 a month in rent [holy crap Manhattan housing is so ridiculously expensive] and can't risk a decrease in salary. Seema says she totally understands and helplessly adds, "That was my best Jerry McGuire", a movie reference the receptionist is too young to understand.

As Aidan sets the patio table for dinner, Tate arrives with Kathy and her boyfriend Bob. Kathy gives Wyatt a hello hug, covertly thanks Carrie for bring the stash of Adderall, then chuckles at the locally purchased prairie girl get-up she's currently rocking. Carrie excuses herself when she gets a call from Miranda, who's fretting about the fact that Joy just cancelled on her 'cause she's too busy entertaining her UK friends - and is translating that to mean she got turned off by the wild cunt meme. Carrie suggests she invite Joy and her UK friends to her mansion for some wine, and assures her that the wild cunt meme will soon be forgotten. Fingers crossed again.

As Tate opens his birthday gifts, Bob tells Carrie on the down low that the Shaw clan is a hard family to break into 'cause they're so tight knit, then says that Aidan doesn't like him to have an opinion, especially about his kids taking Adderall. Bob says he's definitely siding with Kathy on the issue, and doesn't get why Aidan wouldn't want Wyatt to take the meds if it can help with his ADHD. He asks Carrie what she thinks - but she's too stricken to respond and hastily excuses herself.

"Oh. Shit."

Carrie makes a beeline over to Aidan, who's putting the candles on Tate's birthday cake. She tells him that had she known he disapproved of Wyatt taking Adderall, she never would have brought a stash of it to Virginia. Aidan quickly shuts her down and says he doesn't want to get into it when Tate is about to blow out his birthday candles.

Joy and her group of insufferable UK friends arrive at the mansion, and they immediately recognize Miranda from the wild cunt meme. As they chortle over the hilarity of Miranda mispronouncing country, an unamused Miranda says that the meme was taken out of context, which one of the friends re-brands as cunt-ext.

Harry has mounted Charlotte - but gets frustrated when his pecker fails to stiffen. He expresses concern that he's soon going to be an infirm old man like Pop Pop, so Charlotte assures him that, even if sex is permanently off the table, they'll still find a way to connect. A few seconds later, Rock knocks on the door to sourly inform them that while cleaning up Pop Pop's iPad, they discovered a lot of downloaded porn from Pornhub. [Mmm...I'm no porn expert - but wouldn't Pop Pop mostly be streaming the videos?]. They express irritation at having had to perform the icky task...and when Charlotte asks them to just quietly return the iPad to Pop Pop, Rock says he went over to 10F to bone the banana lady and left behind a message to not wait up. Mmm hmm..

Joy's UK friends are reminiscing about their past adventures as international journalists while Joy sits by herself and broods.

Back at the farm, everyone's playing a rousing game of Apples to Apples. When Carrie wins a round (with Homer's help), Wyatt gets all pissy-bitchy and drops a few f-bombs before storming away from the table. Aidan follows him to the living room and reminds him that they're playing a family game, to which Wyatt bellows that it's not a family 'cause "they're here" (referring to Carrie and Bob). Tate irritably tells his brother to grow up, and Wyatt screams, "Fuck off!" ... and Kathy stares beseechingly at Aidan and points out that this is why Wyatt so desperately needs Adderall. Aidan angrily retorts that he's not about to pump his alcohol abusing son with meds, then admonishes her for getting Carrie involved to "mule your shit" down from New York. As a despondent looking Tate mutters, "Great birthday.." and Homer yells, "Fuck you, Wyatt!", Wyatt runs out side and smashes the living room with what looked like a pickaxe and screeches, "Fuck you all!" while a distraught Carrie looks as if she wishes the earth would suddenly open and swallow her whole.

Um, maybe the Adderall is something to reconsider, Aidan.

Later, Aidan tells Carrie he has to go for an actual swim, then dejectedly shuffles off.

As Joy heads out, Miranda asks her why she was so quiet all evening, then says she's pretty sure she already knows the reason: wild cunt-gate. Joy looks surprised by that assumption and shares that she tends to shut down and get all broody whenever she's attracted to someone [which I found a tad weird]. As Miranda perks up at that tidbit, she leans in for what ends up being an electrifying smooch.

Aidan drops by the guest house, where Carrie has retreated for the evening. He apologizes for inviting her to stay at the hell that is his farm, then explains that he felt guilty when she flew all the way to Virginia mostly to have lunch with him. Carrie, in turn, apologizes for not truly believing that he had to spend every waking moment with his troubled son - until she saw him violently smash the living room window over a game of Apples to Apples. She assures Aidan she's not dumping him [just yet], then gives him a key to her mansion and invites him to use the key if and whenever he can - as long as it's never out of a sense of guilt.

The next day, Carrie is on a plane, en route back to New York, when she starts voice-overing about how "the woman" returned home after a long journey.
